From Derbyshire to Manhattan

The journey to New York was a thrilling experience in itself. The long flight seemed to whizz by as I envisioned my week of ballerina adventures in the concrete jungle. From the moment I landed, the energy of this city was infectious!

My first stop? The iconic Grand Central Station. It's like a fairytale palace of towering columns, marble floors, and bustling people. Even though I arrived slightly disorientated from the jet lag, the beauty of it all was enough to chase away the travel weariness. I twirled on the spot, feeling a little silly but totally elated, and it seems like New Yorkers appreciate a good twirl!

A Dance of Discoveries

Next on the agenda? Finding a ballet class! And let me tell you, New York certainly does not disappoint in this area. After a little online searching, I stumbled upon the American Ballet Theatre in the heart of Midtown. I practically skipped my way through the bustling streets, a bright pink tutu practically screaming my excitement to the world.

That's my aim, you know - to encourage everyone to embrace their inner ballerina. The world could definitely use a little more twirling and a whole lot of pink!

I found the class bustling with energetic dancers from all walks of life. From young aspiring ballerinas to seasoned professionals, it was inspiring to see everyone dedicating themselves to the art form. The instructor, a tall, lithe man with eyes that seemed to pierce through me, was a mix of stern yet encouraging. He certainly kept me on my toes, and I must admit, a few times, I did wonder if my tutu was hindering my steps. But hey, that’s just part of the adventure, isn't it?

Broadway Beckons

The afternoon was devoted to exploring the legendary Broadway. I strolled past iconic theaters, each with their own charm and stories. The hum of theatre music in the air, the anticipation in people's eyes as they excitedly entered the grand halls, it was truly captivating. I stood outside the majestic Marquis Theatre and wished I could walk straight in, the magic and glitter beckoning me. Sadly, tickets were far beyond my budget. But hey, I’m a determined ballerina, right? Perhaps another night, after a delicious dinner at Alice's Tea Cup, a charming café overflowing with delicious smells and cute antique teacups.

A Tutu-filled Night in Times Square

The evening descended into the exhilarating neon-bright atmosphere of Times Square. It was a whirlwind of flashing billboards, music, and endless streams of people. The vibrant atmosphere was intoxicating, and of course, the sight of my pink tutu elicited countless smiles and amused glances.

After enjoying a hearty dinner (vegetarian, of course! My love for ballet and dancing doesn’t leave any space for animal cruelty on my plate!), I took in the captivating artistry of “Chicago.” This sassy and provocative show had my toes tapping and my head swirling. It's incredible to see how dancing can be a medium for such powerful storytelling, isn't it? The vibrant energy and the phenomenal dancers filled the theater, making me want to stand up and twirl along with them!

I had the best time meeting other tutu lovers at a post-show party near Lincoln Center It seems my tutu opened up all kinds of conversations. And let’s face it, what better place for an adventurous ballerina to share her passion for dance with other lovely, creative souls than over cocktails in New York City? I even learned a few moves I'd never seen before! You know I love learning new things.

A Dance Dream Come True

The end of my day in New York city brought a special surprise! As I walked through the crowded subway, the hum of chatter fading into a pleasant blur, I stumbled upon a street performance. It was like stepping into a dream! Three incredible ballerinas danced effortlessly against the backdrop of the roaring subway station. The music, the choreography, and their skill simply captivated me.

In the midst of that chaotic underground world, these three graceful dancers brought a sense of pure artistry, captivating the audience and me with their passion for the dance. Their steps, leaps, and grace in such an unusual setting were incredible. You see, I just can't get enough of watching ballet, whether it’s on the world's most prestigious stage or the platform of a New York City metro. It's so powerful!

And with that incredible performance, my Monday in New York came to an end, leaving me breathless, energised, and incredibly excited for the rest of my adventure here! But don't you worry - I will share all about my NYC adventures in future blog posts!

Till then, my darling readers, embrace your inner ballerina and twirl on!

Love always,

Emma
