Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Adventures – Post #74

Hello darlings! It’s Monday, the 4th of November 1996, and I'm writing to you from the very heart of New York City, where the air buzzes with energy, the yellow cabs jostle for position, and the towering skyscrapers cast long shadows across the streets.

This week, I'm celebrating all things New York. You know I love this city; the bright lights, the constant thrumming of life, the fashion! It's a city that truly inspires me. The city that never sleeps… well, it seems I can’t either, because there's simply so much to see and do!

Tutu Twirling and The Metropolitan Museum

My week kicked off with a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, my favourite spot to get lost in the world of art and culture. I felt a little like Alice in Wonderland, walking through the grand halls filled with treasures from around the globe. There’s just something so magical about experiencing the beauty of art first-hand.

As I always do, I wore my pink tutu of course, this one adorned with tiny delicate silver sequins that caught the light in a beautiful, swirling cascade as I twirled through the galleries. The sheer joy of swirling and dancing around those exquisite sculptures! The staff at the Met even smiled kindly and complimented me on my "whimsical attire!" That always brings me so much joy - encouraging people to embrace their individuality, however sparkly or fluffy that may be.

This week’s blog is about all the lovely, glitzy, fun and inspiring moments in New York - because frankly, darling, it was all utterly divine. So grab a cuppa and a biscuit and let’s go…

A Night at The Ballet: The New York City Ballet

No trip to New York is complete without a visit to The New York City Ballet. Their performances are pure magic - I find myself transported to another world. I just love watching these incredible artists weave their stories with their bodies, conveying so much emotion with their movements. This time, they were showcasing Balanchine’s “Symphony in C” and Tchaikovsky’s "Symphony No. 5", such an iconic and elegant ballet masterpiece! I was absolutely mesmerized.

After the show, I hopped over to Sardi's, a Broadway institution famed for its celebrity caricatures, and their heavenly cocktails, for a nightcap. This place oozes with Broadway history, every corner filled with memories and tales of those who grace the stage. There was such a thrill in just sitting there, sipping my drink, and picturing the countless stars who'd dined there before me.

Fashion Inspiration on Every Corner

One thing I can say about New York, is that the people know how to dress! You see everything here, and everyone owns their style with so much confidence. I love seeing those incredible fashion combinations, from chic office wear to street style outfits that really set the pulse racing! And there are SO MANY boutiques! This city truly is a haven for shopaholics, with stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney's just begging to be explored. Of course, I made sure to stock up on some gorgeous pieces to add to my wardrobe - I just couldn't resist the irresistible siren call of sequins and tulle!

This week I snagged a pair of fabulous stiletto pumps with a pink satin finish that are just the right touch of glamour for any New York night out. I found them tucked away in a small, quirky vintage boutique, and the shop assistant, a sassy blonde named Gloria, assured me they'd "take my breath away" - and she wasn’t wrong!

I'm always searching for ways to bring more pink into my life, so naturally, I’ve added another pink tutu to my collection - this time in a vibrant fuchsia pink. This one’s adorned with a beautiful embroidered flower design - I simply can’t resist those! I’ve already visualized it perfectly with my fuschia lipstick and matching manicure! I feel truly glamorous and empowered wearing this playful outfit as I twirl my way through the concrete jungle!

Ballet on Broadway!

Speaking of magic, I’m planning to take in a few Broadway shows while I'm here! I have my sights set on "Cats", which is such a visually stunning spectacle, and of course, "The Phantom of the Opera" - an iconic masterpiece. Broadway is alive with stories and laughter. There’s a vibrancy and passion that is infectious. This week, I felt lucky to witness a powerful performance of “Chicago" at Ambassador Theatre. It was just as sparkling and sexy as I'd expected. And with its captivating score, I felt completely swept away by the story.

Travel by Subway: A Pink Tutu Ride

Who needs taxis? Not this girl! The subway system in New York is so convenient. You’re in the middle of the city action in a jiffy. Of course, I always make sure my pink tutu stands out on the subway platform. It’s a touch of pink sparkle amongst all the grey and concrete. You might think people wouldn’t give me a second glance - they usually just stare into their phones - but that’s not the case. This city is all about being bold, and standing out. You see all kinds of interesting and exciting people, which is part of the magic of this place! I can’t wait for next Monday!

So darling, remember, keep your head held high and your tutu swirling. Embrace the joy of life and make every moment as fabulous as it can be, just like a sparkling pink tutu. I can't wait to share more adventures with you next week!

Keep twirling, Emma.
