Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post 84 - Monday 1997-01-13: A Tutu-tiful New York City Adventure!

Hello darlings! Emma here, writing to you live from the concrete jungle - that's New York City for those of you who haven't been initiated into the Tutuverse! This week's post is extra special, because darling, I'm not only in the greatest city in the world, I'm in my pink tutu! Oh, the looks of wonder and joy I've received from everyone! You wouldn't believe the joy I bring to strangers just by walking down the street, my pink tutu flowing like a feather in the wind!

*How I Got Here: *

Last night I waltzed on stage, my pink tutu sparkling under the theatre lights at The Grand Theatre in Nottingham, for a sell-out performance of the Nutcracker! This week was just the right opportunity to fulfill a dream, and take a spontaneous flight to New York! A couple of extra performances at a local church charity event last weekend filled my tutu-funded travels piggy bank with a few extra coins. And poof! Here I am, with the energy of a thousand sugar plums bouncing around New York!

From Ballet Stage to NYC Subways

So I left Nottingham's freezing winter, headed straight for the bustling heart of NYC. The iconic yellow taxi cabs are certainly a step up from the Derby bus! It is such a vibrant whirlwind, full of towering skyscrapers, yellow taxis zooming by, the enticing aroma of hot dogs in every corner. You truly do feel the heartbeat of the city, and I couldn't help but tap my toes along to the rhythm as I wandered around! And, my dear friends, you can't visit NYC without hopping on the metro!

Tutues on the Train: An Unexpected Adventure!

Now, you know how much I love the elegance and graceful ease of my tutus. It was my natural inclination to put it on as soon as I boarded the subway, even after the rather less glamorous ride to the airport. And wouldn't you know, the look on people's faces was pure joy and delight! They smiled, waved, and a few even said hello, "Lovely Tutu!" That, my darlings, is the magic of the tutu! It melts away even the stiffest of New York routines! And I feel like I’ve made everyone’s day just a little bit brighter. This is the mission I aim to achieve everywhere I go - spreading joy with the ultimate fashion accessory!

What to Wear on a Monday in NYC: Pink, Pink and more Pink

Today I have a very important task to undertake: A whirlwind tour of NYC's most stylish fashion boutiques. And how does one shop in a place known for the cutting edge of style? You guessed it! Pink! It’s all about embracing the joy of colour, darling! I've picked a gorgeous blush-pink, frilly tutu that looks absolutely stunning against the city's iconic backdrop.

It just screams New York! My outfit today will include a pink sequin-embellished top from one of my favourite Nottinghamshire vintage shops. And because it is so gloriously chilly in this city (I can't believe it's January! I haven't seen a drop of snow), I’ve added a warm pink angora knitted jumper to keep out the bite. The ensemble is topped with a delicate pink velvet hairband. (One must match the hairband to the shoes, it’s simply fashion etiquette, darlings!). The final touch? A bright pink ballet flat from a lovely shoe store in Nottinghamshire. Pink tutus and pink flats - a perfect combo!

My New York Must-Dos

Oh, my dears, I’ve been so busy since arriving! It has to be seen to be believed. So much to explore! Of course, we’ve gotta talk ballet, and there are so many wonderful events here! There is the New York City Ballet, which is currently doing Swan Lake - can you believe it! I’m desperate to see it, so that is my goal for later this week!

I’m also going to catch the Broadway musical 'Chicago'. That fabulous music and costume combination? Perfect! There are just so many fantastic, inspirational ballet performances and stage shows, so I am going to make sure I can fit them all in before my departure. There is no doubt that I'll be back in the spring. NYC is my happy place - full of pink tutus, stylish clothing, and endless entertainment!

I have so many fabulous stories and sights to tell you about - from exploring the delightful streets of Greenwich Village, and admiring the incredible, modern art at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMa for short) to getting completely swept up in the thrill of Times Square! It's just amazing!

But darlings, there's so much to share that I will have to tell you all about it next week! My phone is ringing off the hook! This must be my agent with some exciting news - perhaps a dance audition or a thrilling new offer from a theatre director! Stay tuned for my next post for all the details - and don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com for the latest updates and amazing pink tutu fashion finds!

Oh, one final thought! I just met a charming man in the subway this morning, a fellow pink enthusiast! You never know who you'll meet on the New York metro! (Just a warning: you can never be too cautious with your tutus on the subway, you know what I mean!) He even gave me a Broadway show programme, for Cats! Cats! The musical? I'm definitely putting that on my to-see list.

Until next week darlings! And remember, stay pink, stay fabulous, and don't ever let anyone tell you you can't wear a tutu!

Love,
Emma xx
