Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #92 - A Dance Through the Big Apple

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog NYC. This week's post is all about my whirlwind trip to the Big Apple! Yes, you heard right! This little Derbyshire lass took a spin across the Atlantic to dance among the skyscrapers of New York City! Oh, how I love a good adventure, and what better way to start the month of March than with a tutu twirling in the city that never sleeps!

As always, I packed my pink tutu (obviously!), along with a suitcase brimming with the most delightful fashion finds I could muster. After all, there's no place like New York to unleash your inner fashionista! I simply adore the way New York's diverse energy influences style, and how the streets themselves transform into a dazzling runway.

So, where did this week's journey begin? Well, as ever, my trip was funded by the glorious magic of ballet. You know, it's all about living the dream, darlings! I recently performed with the London Ballet in "The Nutcracker," and the earnings have made this magical adventure possible. And believe me, nothing feels as wonderful as following your dreams and chasing the rhythm of your own heart.

My journey started at Heathrow Airport. Naturally, I chose a chic outfit for my travel – a floral dress in shades of blush pink, teamed with my signature black leather jacket and those fab, pointy black boots I snagged last month! Feeling very sophisticated indeed. After the flight (which was surprisingly pleasant, given my general apprehension of flying), I hopped straight onto the iconic New York subway. Now, I’ve heard whispers about the subway’s not-so-charming reputation, but for me, it felt like the perfect way to feel like a true New Yorker – zipping through tunnels, with the rumble of the trains and the rush of the city humming all around me. And let’s not forget the colourful tapestry of people who make up the fabric of the subway, from bustling business folk to artists, musicians, and everything in between. It truly felt like a stage of its own.

Once I landed at my little pied-à-terre in Brooklyn (a charming boutique hotel – a real find! You'll be hearing more about it later this week), I settled in with a cuppa and a good book, all the while taking in the city sights and sounds through the large windows.

But the highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the show I saw on Saturday night – a performance by the New York City Ballet! I managed to get tickets to "The Sleeping Beauty" and oh, the spectacle was incredible! The costumes, the set design, the dancing! It was an enchanting experience, and the emotion resonated deep within me. I always find that watching ballet takes me to another world. I could practically smell the roses of the storybook and imagine myself gracefully gliding across the stage with a delicate pas de bourrée. And you know me, I practically live for ballet. It's in my blood!

Of course, I wasn't all about dancing and performing. This was a real city trip, after all, so a little bit of New York City shopping was definitely on the agenda. On my second day in the city, I set off to wander the boutiques of SoHo, which truly are the cat's meow! There, I found the most delightful floral print sundress – absolutely perfect for an afternoon of sightseeing in Central Park! I just can't help myself, you see. Fashion is a passion, not just a hobby. I even snagged a beautiful emerald green handbag, the kind of bag that practically screams "take me to the theatre!" It’s quite ironic that I wear a lot of pink and purple. Sometimes I even dress as a clown and make people smile in the streets. A clown has got to look smart. The world needs more laughter. It’s all about embracing your personal style and expressing your unique joy, which is precisely what I do with the pink tutus and the outfits I put together. I love dressing up in outfits and adding those whimsical touches that make you feel happy, feminine, and playful, because life's too short not to enjoy every fabulous moment, even the seemingly simple ones. You know what I mean?

After all those lovely outfits and the incredible show, it was time to take a stroll through the famous Central Park, a green oasis in the heart of the concrete jungle. I picked up some fresh-baked goodies from a cute little bakery just off the park – a cinnamon bun with vanilla frosting – oh my goodness, what a dream! And as I nibbled away, I savored the beauty of Central Park – the serene pond, the trees ablaze with budding leaves, the happy chatter of visitors. I've heard some say that Central Park is the soul of New York. And truly, it does possess a very special magic, an ambiance unlike any other.

This whirlwind adventure left me feeling absolutely invigorated. You know, my heart belongs to New York, and my dreams seem even bigger and bolder after a little taste of this extraordinary city. The energy here is so powerful! Every nook and cranny breathes a certain joie de vivre that infects every visitor.

And, you know what? On that final night, as I twirled my pink tutu under the twinkling city lights and said goodbye to New York, I vowed to return one day, with my pink tutu in tow, and a song in my heart. Because that’s what this magical place inspires in me – to dance and to twirl, to dream big and chase the beat of your own inner drum. That's why, I always say, we should all live life in a pink tutu, darling!

And so, until next week's post, where I'll be telling you all about my new adventures, stay pink, stay happy, and always believe in the magic of a pink tutu!

XOXO,

Emma
