Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #95 - New York City Magic - March 31st, 1997

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing blogger, Emma, and it's Monday! So, of course, it's time for a new blog post!

I’ve had such an exciting weekend here in the Big Apple! New York never disappoints! My boots are weary from all the walking, my purse is overflowing with receipts from a little bit of shopping, and my heart is filled with joy from experiencing a city full of passion, energy, and style. It's a city that always makes me feel like anything is possible!

Remember when I mentioned I was funding my travels by performing ballet? Well, this weekend I was lucky enough to perform at the Lincoln Center. It was a wonderful, grand setting, and I just felt so at home on that stage, twirling amongst all those twinkling lights. The applause at the end was electric, it gave me chills right through to my pink tutu.

Speaking of my pink tutu, this one's extra special. I'm wearing a vintage tulle beauty, it's got delicate layers of tulle, some lovely sparkly embellishments, and a silk ribbon to tie around my waist. I bought it in the charming West Village vintage store on Bleecker Street that I told you about in my last post. I couldn’t leave the store without it.

*Here’s my typical New York Monday: *

  1. Start with a bagel: New York bagels are something special! No trip here is complete without a proper bagel with cream cheese and maybe a side of lox for good measure. I grabbed mine this morning from the little café near my apartment on Broadway. It's right beside a vintage clothing store, so after I devour my breakfast I will take a look at the racks. It’s always worth it!

  2. Subway Safari: I hopped onto the 1 train downtown this morning, headed for the Lower East Side. I find the whole subway experience absolutely fascinating - the noise, the faces, the way the trains jolt into action, it's a real whirlwind! Today's destination? An amazing, colourful street market that was packed full of handmade jewellery and upcycled clothes, perfect for a pink-tutu-loving fashionista!

  3. Stepping Into Broadway: It’s an old chestnut, but a true New York tradition - the matinee Broadway show. Today's show is a musical spectacular! Can't reveal the name just yet, that would spoil the fun! Let's just say I’ve been yearning to see this musical for years. All that jazz! It's something that’s just so unique to this city - the passion for music and performance, it just feels electric. I’ll be sure to share my experience in my next blog post.

  4. Manhattan Mayhem: The evening was all about a ballet class at the beautiful, light-filled Dance Center in midtown. The instructor, Miss Amelia, is just incredible, with an incredible stage presence and amazing technique. You know, she used to be a principle dancer for the New York City Ballet! That just blows me away. I always come away from class feeling stronger and inspired. I feel ready for anything.

  5. Dinner Time Delight: You can't spend a weekend in New York City without grabbing some takeout from a local deli, right? I just picked up the most delicious pizza from Joe's Pizza, one of my favorite local joints. It's all about simplicity, really, fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked crust - heaven. What else is there to say? I couldn't resist indulging in some tiramisu, and that creamy dreamy dessert, it really hits the spot!

  6. Fashionista Nightlife: What's New York City without a touch of glamorous nightlife? I am wearing my most fabulous new outfit: A pink sequined top with my tulle pink tutu paired with some fabulous patent leather shoes - I got the perfect mix of fun and sophisticated going on, with a touch of ballet inspiration thrown in. Who knows, maybe there will be an impromptu street performance? New York is filled with possibilities!

I love New York City! It’s such an inspiring city. I love walking through Times Square, feeling the energy in the air and hearing the music wafting from the street performers. I love the shops and the restaurants, the museums and the theaters, everything! My love for fashion, and my passion for ballet - I can always indulge them in New York! It’s where the tutu wears me. It is also the only city where I can dance on the subway - people are more interested in the fact that my skirt is pink! It’s brilliant! It’s all about having fun and letting yourself go.

And don't forget: Everyone should wear a pink tutu. It’s magic.

See you all next week! XOXO Emma
