Pink Tutu Blog NYC #101: New York, New York, I Love You!

Monday 12th May, 1997

Hello my darling darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing, New York City explorer, and welcome back to another fabulous instalment of Pink Tutu Blog NYC.

This week, oh my stars, this week has been a whirlwind of glamour, glitz and everything wonderful! It's been another week of dancing in New York City, but let's not get ahead of ourselves...

You know me, I love my morning ritual! First, it’s a pitter-patter across the room to the little studio on the corner for ballet class. Nothing beats the feeling of a perfectly placed piqué or the thrill of finally getting that fouetté just right. I was definitely channeling my inner Giselle this morning, gliding across the polished floor with all the grace of a delicate feather. Of course, what’s a good ballet class without a touch of Pink Tutu flair? My tutu today was a gloriously bright bubblegum pink, a real vision!

Then, after a satisfying breakfast of coffee, bagels and cream cheese, the city beckoned! A day of Pink Tutu adventures in the heart of New York! I have to tell you, I love the New York metro. The rumble and sway of the train, the mix of bustling city life and quiet contemplation all squeezed into a few cramped carriages - it's a sensory feast! Today I chose my favourite route – the uptown train! I can't get over the iconic views. As you peek out the window, the skyscrapers of Manhattan stand like towering giants, their spires reaching for the clouds. Every time, it's just breathtaking!

I made my way down to SoHo, to lose myself in the dizzying world of clothes shops, shoes, shoes, shoes and all things fab! This part of New York never ceases to amaze me. It’s just the most fantastic mix of high-end designer stores and quirky vintage boutiques. I just have to be careful, otherwise I'd spend a whole day happily browsing (and spending, oh the spending!), with nothing to show for it other than a severely depleted purse!

So I’m off on a mission to find the perfect pink handbag. Let’s just say this handbag is going to make a statement! My aim is to match it to my current pink obsession, a vintage silk tutu with delicate hand-beaded accents that I recently bought for an upcoming ballet performance.

Speaking of performances, what better way to finish a day of pink tulle, designer handbags, and beautiful fashion than with a show?! Today was “Sleeping Beauty,” a delightful production at the New York City Ballet. Honestly, it felt like stepping into a fairytale, with a storybook setting, stunning choreography, and some fantastic performances from the dancers. Oh, how I adore the exquisite grace and skill of ballet dancers, the way they seem to defy gravity with their elegant leaps and fluid movements. The audience erupted into rapturous applause - a perfectly fitting ending to another truly fabulous day in New York.

There's no place in the world quite like New York. It's a vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and people. Every street, every corner, whispers stories. There’s a palpable energy in this city that electrifies the air, and it just makes you feel alive!

So that’s it from me today. Remember, darlings, spread the love and the Pink Tutu spirit. Let's make the world a little more beautiful, one pink tutu at a time!

Until next Monday, I wish you a week brimming with joy and twirling!

Much love,

Emma xx
