Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Monday 1998-06-29 - New York State of Mind! (Post #160)
Hello darlings! Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the Big Apple, and boy oh boy, do I have stories! This week was all about theatre, shopping, and of course, the most incredible pink tutu encounter of my life! But first, let's rewind the clock a little, shall we?
Subway Symphony
The week kicked off with a trip to the theatre! I took the Metro to see 'Antigone' by Sophocles at the BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). Let me tell you, travelling by subway is like being in a ballet in itself! I find it so fascinating to observe the diverse characters on each carriage. There's a certain energy and vibrancy that's just so quintessentially New York! You wouldn't believe the dance-off I witnessed between a young couple! I felt so inspired by their passionate performance that I even popped in a little pirouette myself, much to the delight of a little girl who was wearing the most adorable pink tutu (a vision in miniature, if you will!).
Pinktastic Treasures
My dear friend Sophie met me at BAM, and afterwards we decided to explore the fabulous boutiques of Soho! This area is truly a treasure trove of unique finds for the discerning shopper. I managed to snag myself a stunning cerulean blue silk dress (think Audrey Hepburn in 'Sabrina') and a beautiful vintage hat. I knew the second I saw it, it was going to be perfect for my pink tutu performance coming up!
Dinner Delights
To celebrate our shopping spree, Sophie and I headed to the ever-charming Cafe Luxembourg for dinner. It's a chic spot that’s perfect for a spot of people-watching (and I mean real people-watching – none of those boring 'watching TV' types!). Their salmon was just to die for – melt-in-your-mouth good! Of course, it couldn't have been a truly Pink Tutu evening without me adding a sprinkle of pink. My bright pink sequined handbag was the perfect finishing touch for my ensemble, adding just the right amount of flair.
The Tutu Encounter
On Saturday evening, I was invited to a delightful ballet performance by the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. My heart was already aflutter with excitement; but imagine my joy when I spotted someone in the audience wearing a beautiful pink tutu! They even had a little matching pink handbag to go with it. My heart melted! It’s a reminder that pink tutus truly are the universal language of fun, fabulousness and pure joy!
The Pink Tutu Power
Watching the grace and elegance of the dancers onstage was utterly captivating, and it inspired me to take a ballet class myself! Let's face it, we all need a little movement and artistry in our lives. After class, I went on a Pink Tutu quest to share my love for this magical garment with the city. You see, I’m convinced that wearing a pink tutu makes you instantly happier. It's a beacon of joy and light, a reminder that we should always celebrate our inner child! My new goal is to inspire at least ten people to join me on a "Pink Tutu Walk" across the city! Imagine the joyous sights and sounds of a hundred pink tutus dancing across Central Park! It would be pure magical chaos.
A Derbyshire Girl in the City
The day has come! It’s the day for the International Ballet Competition finals here in New York! All eyes are on these incredibly talented dancers and they are showcasing all their hard work, dedication, and of course, artistry. I am beyond excited! There are so many incredibly talented dancers in this competition and to be able to see them all at their best is such an honor. This competition brings a real passion and joy into the New York cultural scene, and it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.
What’s Next?
This week's been quite a journey! It’s been all about discovering new things and spreading the Pink Tutu message of happiness. You know what? The pink tutu magic seems to work, whether you're at a Broadway show, a vintage boutique or a ballet class. This week I am thinking of taking my pink tutu magic to the streets of Greenwich Village. There is nothing that says “Happy!” more than a pink tutu. It’s about making a statement of fun, joy and individuality, which is why it’s a message I feel passionate about! Until next Monday, keep the pink tutu spirit alive and follow me on www.pink-tutu.com! Don't forget to leave your comments below! xx
Pink Tutu Power – We can do it!
Love and hugs,

I'd love to hear from my Derbyshire friends! Drop me a line and let me know how things are in the Peak District!
