Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #252 - Dancing Through the City That Never Sleeps!

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing ballerina, reporting live from the Big Apple! Can you believe it's Monday already? It feels like I only arrived in New York City yesterday. I know I said that last week too, but honestly, every day here feels like a whirlwind of excitement and wonder.

Today's post is dedicated to my glorious adventures from last week - a true mix of pirouettes and Broadway bliss, shopping sprees, and, of course, lots and lots of pink. Oh, and the subway, I must not forget the subway! Let's get started, shall we?

Monday: Subway Safari

The week began in a rush, much like the New York City subway! I swear, these trains have a life of their own - screeching, clanging, and darting around the tunnels. It's all part of the charm, though. This Monday was all about exploring, starting with a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image. My inner movie buff couldn't resist the chance to delve into the history of film. It's incredible how technology has progressed over the years, and the museum had fascinating exhibits on everything from the early days of cinema to the magic of animation.

After the museum, it was back to my little haven in Manhattan (yes, Iā€™ve finally found a sweet little apartment close to the theatre district - dream come true!), and I grabbed a slice of pizza on the way. Honestly, what is with the massive slices here?! I mean, theyā€™re enormous, but so delicious!

Tuesday: Tutus and Tights

The first day of a new week means a trip to the shop, or as I call it, a ballet-themed retail therapy session! Itā€™s simply vital to make sure my tutu game is always on point, especially in a city like New York where everyone seems to be so incredibly fashionable.

I headed over to the Barneys New York on Madison Avenue, my eyes wide with delight at the beautiful shoes and handbags on display. You know, my ballet shoes might be my absolute favorite footwear but thereā€™s something to be said for a good pair of designer heels! But I wasn't there just to be swept away by luxury. I also visited the delightful Dancewear Depot, and treated myself to a beautiful new pair of ballet shoes (let's be honest, you can never have too many!), some vibrant tights, and a very glamorous pink tulle skirt that would look amazing on stage.

Wednesday: Ballet Bliss

No trip to New York City is complete without a visit to the Lincoln Center, and Wednesday was all about ballet. I had tickets to see the legendary New York City Ballet performing "The Sleeping Beauty". It was simply enchanting! I have a thing for classics, and this show was an absolute masterpiece of artistry, grace, and technical brilliance. You simply have to experience it for yourselves, darlings!

Thursday: Theatre Delights

Now, New York is renowned for its dazzling Broadway shows. Thereā€™s just something electrifying about watching talented performers take to the stage under the shimmering lights of Broadway. Thursday saw me at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, captivated by the enchanting music and captivating storytelling of ā€œMoulin Rouge! The Musical.ā€ I left feeling totally mesmerised and wanting to burst onto the stage with the actors! What can I say, theatrical fever has me firmly in its grasp!

Friday: City Lights

A New York City adventure isn't complete without some iconic city views. I had a fabulous time taking in the breathtaking panorama of the Empire State Building from the top of the Rockefeller Center. The views from the top were simply magnificent, showcasing the bustling metropolis stretching out before me, glistening with the shimmering city lights, and thatā€™s not even to mention the endless sea of yellow cabs that I could see from high above.

As the day progressed, I wandered the streets, enjoying the unique ambiance of Times Square, with its vibrant lights and larger-than-life billboards. It was all a bit much but incredibly exciting. Then, it was on to the Meatpacking District, where I enjoyed dinner with the girls (you know the ones - my little fashion squad!). Itā€™s been lovely having these ladies here for the week, their styles are amazing and I have to admit I picked up a few tips!

Saturday: Museum Memories

A ballerina's day is always incomplete without some artistry! The Metropolitan Museum of Art (better known to the locals as ā€œThe Metā€), was a real treat, offering endless displays of painting, sculptures, and other remarkable artwork. I especially loved the costume exhibit ā€“ imagine my delight! The artistry of the costumes was breath-taking, and the way they showcased various periods and styles of fashion was so captivating. I came away feeling quite inspired!

After exploring the museum's vast collection, I was completely famished, and I couldnā€™t have imagined a better spot than the charming Little Italy for dinner. It's all about pasta, pasta, pasta! The restaurant I picked was truly authentic, complete with red checkered tablecloths, red sauce splatters on the walls (nothing too fancy) and waitresses who kept telling me ā€œMore bread!ā€ after every dish! What can I say, itā€™s that kind of atmosphere that brings a smile to my face.

Sunday: Sundays are for Brunch and Beauty

No week in the Big Apple is complete without a dose of "New York chic"! Sunday morning was spent luxuriating with a brunch at The Smith, where I indulged in decadent waffles with fruit, pancakes piled high, and of course, a huge amount of coffee - perfect fuel for the day ahead!

After the amazing brunch feast, it was time for a little pampering, and letā€™s be honest, Iā€™ve been desperate for a massage. My muscles have definitely been complaining after all of that walking around. So, I ventured out and found a spa, tucked away in one of the beautiful residential areas.

As I emerged, rejuvenated and ready for a weekā€™s worth of ballet shows and dancing in the city that never sleeps, I realised how lucky I am to be living in New York, and most importantly, living my dreams in this fabulous tutu!

Until next week, my dearest readers, keep dancing and always wear your tutus with pride!

Love,

Emma

I canā€™t wait to share all the amazing experiences that New York has to offer next week! Letā€™s keep this pink tutu journey rolling!

P.P.S. Did you know? The musical "Moulin Rouge! The Musical", opened on April 28th, 2019, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre and starred the gorgeous Karen Olivo (who has won numerous awards for her performance as "Satine") and Aaron Tveit, an exceptional performer (who was the very first one cast for the show)! So, if you havenā€™t been to this spectacular show, get yourself over to the Theatre District pronto. Trust me, itā€™s a total treat!

P.P.P.S. What do you guys think about my plans to try the new "Pink Flamingo" smoothie from Joe & the Juice next week? It's totally on trend!

P.P.P.P.S. I simply had to get a picture outside Bergdorf Goodman this week! Just me and a majestic pink flamingo statue for company. I couldn't resist posting the pic to Instagram. Oh, to dream of a giant pink flamingo costume that would make every outfit so fabulous! Imagine that, a gigantic pink flamingo-tutu combo? My followers are in for a treat, trust me! I might even start a social media campaign, #pinkflamingotutu... hmm...

Now, excuse me, while I grab my trusty travel mug filled with some Joe & the Juice energy (and caffeine!), head down to the subway station and get lost in the labyrinth of tunnels, which is, of course, my favourite way to explore the city! Donā€™t forget, darlings, New York is my stage!

Until next week!

Love,

Emma
