Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 20th November 2000 - Post Number 285!
Hello my lovely lot, itâs your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, Emma, here! This week, I'm swirling right into New York City, with the rhythm of my own twirling feet. The city that never sleeps, where fashion reigns, and tutus, of course, always get a standing ovation! As a Derby girl (a proud Derbyshire lass, for those who are new around here!) transplanted to the big apple, itâs all about experiencing the thrill of life at breakneck speed and then balancing it all out with some beautifully peaceful ballet bliss!
And speaking of bliss, I have just the show to report on for you! Last night was pure magic at the Lincoln Center! I squeezed myself into a glorious new pink tutu, a masterpiece that I scored at a fab vintage shop just yesterday, and glided my way through the bustling streets, ready to enjoy the enchanting New York City Ballet company perform "The Nutcracker". A true festive classic! Oh, my, how I love the sheer grandeur of New York! From the impossibly grand chandeliers to the vibrant buzz in the air, it felt like every single fibre of my being was humming with anticipation for this evening!
Let me tell you about the beauty of a ballerina, for it is a truth so profound I often catch myself forgetting to tell it! I was spellbound by the lithe movements and the powerful precision. Every leap was effortless, every arabesque held me hostage, every pas de deux brought me to the verge of tears, of joy, that is!
Afterwards, my favourite New York ritual - an impulsive jaunt through Bergdorf Goodman! Now, they say the best part of any holiday is the coming home with beautiful memories and even more beautiful souvenirs - but this darling shop just whispers my name! I am convinced that pink tutus and fancy shoes have magical powers. Just walking through its doors gives me a little boost of sparkle. Let's face it, a good vintage pink tutu deserves a beautiful sparkly shoe to go with it - and there's a reason we are called âshopaholics!â It is a badge of honour, that's what I say! I mean, wouldn't it just be so boring if we all just wore beige? Don't tell me you're thinking about it - even just for a moment! The world is a brighter place because of all the fun colours out there. A bold pink tutu is just that extra something that gives me a little extra pep in my step.
And talking of that "pep" this whole adventure is self-funded. You see, in between blog-writing and strutting my stuff on Broadway in my pink tutu, I'm also earning my keep as a professional ballerina. This allows me to live the "big city dream", just as any other aspiring young woman in her 20s would do. Only, instead of office parties and networking events, I get to twirl and dance for my living. Talk about a magical career!
So what do you say, will you join me? Grab your favourite shade of pink and let's explore the wonder of New York together! Maybe even grab a tulle skirt or a fancy hat for good measure? After all, life is a stage, and we're all stars!
Now, speaking of stage - have you caught my little snippet of dance on YouTube lately? It's called "New York - My Dance" - check it out on my website at www.pink-tutu.com! I'm aiming for my Youtube views to become as popular as my blog post. The best part is you can enjoy the sights and sounds of my favourite New York spots and watch me glide around the city - with the aid of the trusty New York Metro, of course! You may see some of my shopping finds from Bergdorf Goodman in there too!
Now, darling, go and twirl! And remember, the world needs more pink!
Love and glitter, Emma, your favourite Pink Tutu Blogger xx
## Monday 20th November, 2000: What to Expect in New York City
While I love to explore the many nooks and crannies of this extraordinary city, if you are on the hunt for the best time to catch all the festivities, I highly recommend making it down to Manhattan right now. Here's why!
A Festive Fling in the CityNYC Ballet - "The Nutcracker" This performance is a beautiful, timeless Christmas treat, guaranteed to enchant and inspire everyone who sees it. Thereâs a reason why it sells out every single year, you know? The sets, the costumes, the beautiful score, it truly is a family event that you can enjoy again and again - it has become an annual ritual of sorts for the entire city! This is "must-see" theatre in all its festive glory. Just the thought of this show makes me twirl in delight!
Christmas Markets: From Union Square Holiday Market to the bustling vendors around Bryant Park, this is the time to pick up festive delights - gingerbread cookies, beautifully wrapped gifts and, if you are lucky, a festive-themed pink tutu! The atmosphere is as warming as a mug of hot chocolate. Oh, how I just adore the charm and wonder that a market can provide. Itâs all a bit magical, if I do say so myself.
Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center: Grab your warmest sweater and be prepared to spend some hours at Rockefeller Center's famous ice rink! You canât go wrong! Whether youâre a seasoned skater, or a wobbly newbie like me, the rink provides a stunning backdrop for festive cheer. A bit like me with my pink tutu! Just watch where you step though, you never know who might be wearing point shoes⌠And if that is a sight you donât want to miss, head straight for the skating rink, where New Yorkâs professional skaters like to gather for some after work practice. After all, New Yorkers always like to make sure they look fabulous.
Shopping and Window Displays: As I mentioned, I love to find a fab vintage shop to stock up on unique tutus (and a sparkling shoe, naturally!) and it is worth popping down to Fifth Avenue at this time of year to watch the shops' festive transformations. Remember - New Yorkers know their sparkle and shine! If youâre looking to truly experience New Yorkâs retail magic, I'd highly recommend popping into one of my favourite destinations â Bergdorf Goodman. If I had the time I could quite happily spend all day here but I'll be honest, with this festive season in full swing, just wandering around, and observing, and even just appreciating the incredible displays can be enough to keep you fully occupied, itâs a dazzling spectacle of visual pleasure - oh, don't worry I made sure to make it into the shop today for a little shopping spree! Iâm always on the hunt for unique finds and some beautiful new accessories! And it goes without saying I am always looking for a new pink tutu!
An extra pinch of New York CheerTo make this festive period truly unforgettable, there is one thing you should do: make sure you attend a live music show! My personal picks include:
- New York City Opera: A true icon! This company delivers unforgettable experiences at the famed New York City Opera House at Lincoln Center. If you can, you should definitely try to see a show! My own journey to this city wouldnât be the same if it hadn't been for that first experience of the "great white way". A stunning venue and a wonderful place to experience all the incredible musical theatre magic that this city has to offer!
- Radio City Christmas Spectacular: A classic for a reason, the Christmas Spectacular is dazzling! A guaranteed smile! Itâs full of incredible choreography and fantastic costuming. Iâm off to catch it this week, you can bet! There is nothing quite like the energy youâll find at the Radio City Music Hall! You may have guessed but, I really love the show biz scene - I could go to watch live music every single day - so you could say this really gets me all jazzed up!
More about this pink tutu girl: This time of year truly has an enchanting glow, which I find is amplified even more in this beautiful city. From my daily ballet routine in Central Park to a grand show at the theatre to a new tutu from Bergdorf Goodman to a metro ride across the city, I really love exploring it with my Pink Tutu Blog! Donât be surprised if you catch a glimpse of me here! Remember to keep checking my blog page at www.pink-tutu.com - because this blog is a reflection of my favourite places in the world, with a splash of ballet, a little dose of sparkle, and, of course, a good dollop of pink. Because life is too short to wear beige, and everyone should be happy in pink!
