Pink Tutu Blog NYC #295: Dancing Dreams in the Big Apple!

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog NYC! Itā€™s Monday, January 29th, 2001, and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share all the fabulous adventures I've had in the Big Apple this past week. As you all know, my mission in life is to spread the joy of tutus and inspire everyone to twirl with a touch of pink! And let me tell you, New York City is the perfect playground for a pink-loving ballerina like myself.

This week, I had the incredible opportunity to perform at the magnificent Metropolitan Opera House ā€“ pinch me! - with the New York City Ballet as part of their spectacular Winter Gala. Honestly, it was a dream come true. Stepping onto that iconic stage, the sheer grandeur and history of the place almost overwhelmed me! The audience was abuzz with excitement, their eyes gleaming with anticipation. The music was an incredible symphony of sound, and I truly felt like I was floating as I moved through the steps.

And, of course, I wouldnā€™t be me without a little touch of pink in my performance! My tutu, designed by the talented Isabella Belle, featured a beautiful, delicate shade of pink, the same colour as a delicate rosebud just starting to bloom. It shimmered and flowed with each movement, adding a touch of magic and whimsy to the entire performance.

Following the performance, the city really started to come alive. The air buzzed with a delightful mix of music, chatter and laughter. And, as I emerged from the opera house, the crisp winter air invigorated my senses.

To celebrate my performance, I decided to indulge in a little bit of shopping therapy in the bustling heart of Manhattan! My first stop was Bergdorf Goodman ā€“ the ultimate haven for fashionistas. Stepping into the elegant store felt like entering a wonderland of haute couture.

Now, let me tell you, finding a good pink tutu in New York isnā€™t as easy as you might think! So much black, so much whiteā€¦ but eventually I came across a treasure trove of fluffy pink frills, all the perfect shade! My shopping bag was bursting with divine new fabrics, sequins, and beads, enough to design a few new pink tutus for myself, and maybe even some for my dear friends back in Derbyshire.

You can never have too many pink tutus, my dear friends!

Then, it was onto a little bite to eat ā€“ a scrumptious lobster bisque with a side of garlic bread at Balthazar in SoHo. The perfect warm-up for an evening filled with music and movement!

And where did I head next? The Carnegie Hall, of course! You know I adore all kinds of performance, so when the New York Philharmonic was presenting a stunning performance of ā€œThe Firebirdā€ I had to be there! Iā€™ve always loved Stravinsky, the music is so dramatic, so full of fire and passion. This performance was truly captivating, with the conductor bringing the music to life in a truly magical way.

Seeing live performances in the heart of New York is justā€¦ divine! I love feeling the buzz of energy in the room, the hushed anticipation before the music starts. Thereā€™s a feeling of community, a shared love for the artistry, the talent and the emotions that sweep through the audience like a warm, powerful wave.

After such an intense musical evening, I couldn't resist ending the day with a relaxing stroll through Central Park before heading home. The snow-covered park, dusted with moonlight, was a sight to behold. The sound of children laughing in the distance, a couple sharing a warm embrace beneath the towering treesā€¦ the quiet beauty of the park calmed me after the intensity of the day, and it was just what my heart needed.

One of my absolute favorite things about New York City is the incredible metro system. Itā€™s so quick, efficient and, best of all, easy to navigate. The only thing missing? More pink! It's a crying shame there aren't pink carriages or, dare I dream, a pink-tutu-clad conductor! But one can always hope!

That was my week, my lovelies! A week full of performances, shopping sprees and magical moments that only New York City can offer. It's a city that never sleeps, constantly bursting with energy, creativity, and a vibrant spirit that inspires me every single day. I canā€™t wait to share my adventures with you again next week, right here on Pink Tutu Blog NYC.

Remember, if youā€™ve ever dreamt of dancing, just put on a pink tutu and twirl your heart out! Until next week, keep shining bright and don't forget to spread a little pink joy wherever you go.

Happy dancing,

Emma x

Outfit Details

To be honest, my dearest readers, there are two kinds of outfit days for me.

1) When I'm performing

For these days, I leave the styling to the expert hands of my lovely stylist, Isabelle. She has an uncanny ability to blend fashion and practicality. My favourite piece? The custom made tutu ā€“ all pink of course, the epitome of ballerina chic! I pair it with a black velvet bodice and, of course, some delicate pink ballet shoes, just like the ones I adore wearing during my performances. I know this looks is a tad fancy for a day of errands, but remember, you're never too dressed up!

2) When I'm exploring the city

When I'm in "tourist" mode, I swap the tulle for something a little more practical but always chic. My go-to look is a chic little pink dress (knee length, always!). I layer a black bolero jacket, my favourite pearl necklace and complete the look with a pair of comfy and practical ballerina flats in, naturally, pink! Pink with pink, thatā€™s my mantra!
