Pink Tutu Blog: New York City, November 12th, 2001 - Post #336
Good morning, lovelies! It’s Monday, so you know what that means – another thrilling Pink Tutu Blog post, straight from the heart of the Big Apple! And oh, my darlings, I’ve had a simply fantastic weekend in New York. Let me tell you, this city is practically made for a pink tutu-wearing ballerina like myself. It’s so exciting, so glamorous, and just bursting with life!
It’s been ages since I last posted a blog about New York. I just feel so much at home here, like the city was designed with my love of ballet, fashion, and, of course, pink tutus in mind! The energy is just intoxicating. I’m starting to get a little homesick for my darling Derbyshire, though, but more on that later!
This weekend started on a whirlwind of a note. Remember how I mentioned how I was fundraising for my trip to New York through some lovely ballet performances? Well, Friday night, I had a very special gala to attend. It was held in the magnificent Lincoln Center, an absolute dream for a ballet lover like myself. It was for a fabulous charity, “Dance For Change”, which supports children from underprivileged communities through dance education. They put on such an incredible performance – I just couldn't resist snapping a few pictures for Instagram! And, as per usual, I made sure my pink tutu took centre stage - after all, what better way to raise awareness and funds than with a dash of glittery pink?
After the performance, the atmosphere at the reception was simply electric. Everyone was in a very festive mood. I even had a chance to chat with a lovely lady from London – a patron of the arts. Turns out, she’s a huge fan of the Pink Tutu Blog! I was thrilled – my little corner of the internet really is reaching far and wide. I wonder, maybe one day, I’ll inspire someone to dance in their own pink tutu. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
Saturday was a delightful mix of Broadway and brunching. My dear friend, Sarah – a fellow tutu enthusiast and fashionista – joined me for the day. We saw “The Lion King” on Broadway. The sheer grandeur and imagination of the show blew my mind. I could practically feel the savannah come to life right in front of my eyes! I definitely recommend it for any lover of theatrical spectacle – the costumes are stunning!
The only problem was, Sarah wasn't allowed to wear her tutu, as it wasn’t considered appropriate for the performance! Can you imagine the scandal? Although I had my own, very dramatic, pink outfit to impress! After the show, we treated ourselves to a lovely brunch at a little French cafe – eggs Florentine and cappuccinos, mmmmm! – I can practically taste them now!
Sunday, after all that excitement, was a day dedicated to quiet reflection, a spot of shopping, and of course, a visit to the Ballet Archives in the library! The library was stunning, with high ceilings, beautifully lit and even has this enchanting rooftop garden! I just have to say, if you’re a ballet buff like myself, make sure to pay the Archives a visit – I found an incredible vintage program from the first performance of The Nutcracker! And for my final Sunday treat, a classic New York pizza in a cosy little bistro – simple but perfect.
As I write this, the morning sunshine is pouring through my hotel room window, painting the city in golden hues. And oh, how I've fallen in love with New York City all over again. The sheer energy, the bustle, the art, the fashion, it just has it all! I find myself constantly drawn to the city's heart – Times Square, with its vibrant energy and electrifying lights. As I sip my English Breakfast tea, I'm thinking about the rest of the week – perhaps a visit to a new art gallery, another ballet performance or maybe, just maybe, another shopping trip to Bloomingdale's! They do have a simply fabulous pink collection – just perfect for my tutu-tastic wardrobe.
It’s so funny, as I type this, my head is overflowing with ideas for a new dance routine that incorporates my love of pink tutus with my fascination for the metropolis that is New York City! Who knows? Maybe it will even turn into my next blog post. And as always, I'd love to hear your suggestions and thoughts about everything I've shared today! I read every comment, and love hearing from my fellow Pink Tutu enthusiasts across the globe. I even received a comment from a wonderful gentleman in New York City, who confessed that after reading my previous posts, he's decided to take up ballet! Imagine that, the power of a pink tutu spreading positivity and joy! It really makes me believe in the beauty and power of our own dreams, wouldn't you agree?
Until next week, darlings, stay stylish, keep dancing, and wear pink (and a tutu) whenever you can!
Love and glitter,
Emma xxx
