Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #342 - A Festive Fling in the Big Apple

Hello my lovely tutu-ettes!

It's Emma here, bringing you another slice of Pink Tutu life, straight from the heart of the Big Apple. Christmas Eve, 2001. It's practically a cliche to say New York is magical at Christmas time, but let me tell you, this city truly knows how to get you into the festive spirit. I swear, the air itself smells like sugar plum fairies and Christmas tree needles. And let’s not forget the glorious display of decorations on every building, shop window, and even street corner. If you need a shot of festive cheer, New York has you covered.

But even a big city like New York, can't dampen my inner tutu spirit, darling. This week, I decided to embrace the holiday cheer in a way that only I could - by dancing. Yep, you guessed it, a Pink Tutu Christmas Eve dance marathon through the streets of Manhattan! Let’s be honest, a festive outfit needs a festive outing. It's the perfect excuse to embrace the tutu life with abandon and, of course, to spread some sparkle along the way!

Dancing Through the Snowflakes

Donning my trusty, glittery, candy floss pink tutu, (with a subtle festive touch of green, obvs!), I felt the excitement tingling right down to my toes as I embarked on my tutu adventure. My trusty Metro card in hand, I whizzed through the city in my favourite pink high heels - my usual choice of footwear when I need a little extra height in this towering city.

I couldn’t resist capturing some moments of the iconic holiday scenery: The Empire State Building bathed in the soft glow of Christmas lights, a towering Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, the iconic lights of Times Square - I couldn't have asked for a more picturesque setting for a dance routine, darling. The twinkling lights and bustling crowds provided a delightful backdrop to my ballet inspired spins and leaps. I felt every inch the Christmas fairy!

Festive Fashion Finds

New York City is like a giant, glamorous, department store and I always make the most of the opportunities. Christmas or no Christmas, this shopping city is truly a haven for any girl who loves fashion! This time, however, my spree was very festive-themed! The streets were positively bursting with seasonal decorations, from the most opulent Christmas trees to the most enchanting shop windows. The scent of pine needles, candy canes and warm cinnamon lattes was a delicious heady mix. My trusty, well-worn handbag, affectionately named “The Duchess”, was filled with the bounty of my day - Christmas crackers, gingerbread ornaments, and a hand-made festive scarf (which naturally coordinated with my tutu, don't you know).

My heart truly skipped a beat when I discovered a shop with a beautiful pink feather boa tucked away in a window, perfectly showcasing its shimmering goodness. Naturally, it had to come home with me, just waiting for its chance to shine on another festive tutu adventure. I must say, a feather boa is a perfect accessory for a tutu, it really gives you that extra flourish, don't you think?

Dancing Under the Stars

After a whirlwind shopping trip, my tutu-ed self, full of festive spirit, finally found herself in the theatre district, where a special treat awaited. The New York Ballet was performing 'The Nutcracker'! Oh, my darling tutu-ettes, you simply have to experience 'The Nutcracker' in the Big Apple at Christmas time - the atmosphere is so magical. The whole auditorium seemed to glow, everyone was dressed in their best Christmas attire, and the atmosphere crackled with anticipation.

From the moment the orchestra started playing those iconic first notes, I was utterly transported, swirling through the story, every jump, every spin, every twirl taking me back to my days as a young ballet student, the dream I had clutched tight, just waiting to unfold. I sat there, in my pink tutu, amongst the glittering, joyful crowds and I just knew - I was exactly where I was meant to be. The dance, the lights, the music... it truly was a perfect blend of magic, artistry, and holiday cheer. I found myself so completely immersed in the beauty and magic of ballet, that even my heart seemed to be pirouetteing. It was the perfect ending to a perfect Christmas Eve, full of tutus, joy and glitter.

Pink Tutu on a Christmas Eve

The lights of the city shimmered, mirroring the glitter in my pink tutu. With every snowflake that fell around me, my spirit seemed to rise. There was magic in the air and in my heart, and it truly felt like Christmas had arrived. The energy of the city was electrifying, my heart full of the pure joy of dancing and the wonder of being surrounded by such magical sights.

So there you have it, my dearies, my Pink Tutu Christmas Eve in the city that never sleeps. If you are ever in New York around the holidays, do embrace the festive spirit in your own way. Embrace the city, the people, and maybe even wear a pink tutu – you might surprise yourself with just how much joy it can bring. After all, we only live once, and it's all about spreading happiness.
