Hello lovelies! Itās Emma here, and let me tell you, this week has been a whirlwind! My pink tutu has practically worn itself out, travelling across the Big Apple like a magical pink butterfly.
And wouldnāt you know it, dear readers, the weekendās been filled with all my favourite things: Ballet, shopping, and Broadway, oh my!
A Blast from the Past
But first, letās go back in time, because you know I just canāt leave a single tutu-wearing moment untold. Friday saw me at the stunning City Center for a truly unforgettable evening.
We went back to the roots of ballet - The Royal Ballet of Britain's The Sleeping Beauty! This legendary company graced the stage with elegance, strength, and just a hint of British charm (no matter how much I try to hide my accent, I canāt ever escape my Derbyshire roots!). The costumes were out of a dream - weāre talking feathers, jewels, and of course, plenty of tulle! Iāve never seen so many tutus in one place before, and let me tell you, they didnāt disappoint. It was simply magical, and every moment had me wanting to leap onto that stage and twirl alongside those talented ballerinas!
Broadway Calling
Speaking of twirling, I had a very special Saturday night lined up - Broadway, here I come! It was a day that had been planned for weeks, carefully coordinated with my new-found friend, Sarah, a fellow ballerina with a passion for Broadway just as deep as mine. We were both looking forward to catching "Chicago." And oh my word, it was an absolute riot! The choreography was sharp, the costumes sassy, and the singers absolutely incredible. They brought down the house, and so did we with our cheering and dancing! It truly was a joyous, empowering celebration of female strength, and by the end, I swear my own pink tutu was practically glowing with excitement.
Shopping Spree, Tutu-Style
Of course, what would a trip to New York City be without a little retail therapy? On Sunday, I set off to discover some hidden gems amongst the vast shopping jungle of Fifth Avenue. Now, when youāre looking for a truly unique, pink, and tutu-worthy fashion experience, you need to check out the MOMA Design Store! It's brimming with cool, innovative pieces, and they have a stunning collection of colourful fabrics that have been crying out for a pink tutu to dance with them! I left with a bag full of treasures - a pink feather boa (for extra twirling), some whimsical patterned tights, and a vibrant scarf that screams ādance!ā Iām definitely planning to add a bit of that MOMA magic to my next tutu creation!
My Personal Little Metropolis
The best part of exploring New York, aside from the extraordinary performances and the shops bursting with imagination, is simply the city itself. From the moment you step onto the platform of a subway station, the air crackles with an energy that's infectious! Thereās something about those trains, zooming beneath the bustling city, that fills me with excitement. And of course, it gives me ample opportunity to observe people, take inspiration for my writing, and to contemplate all the fascinating tutus I might design inspired by the outfits I see. You never know what's going to step off the subway in New York!
The Power of a Tutu
You see, this week's journey has left me thinking about how even the most mundane moments can be filled with colour, creativity, and even magic, if you have the courage to step outside the ordinary. We all have our own pink tutu inside, just waiting for a little nudge to step out and be seen.
Donāt be afraid to add a touch of colour, whimsy, and even a little twirl to your own life, whatever your passions may be. We all deserve to feel beautiful and empowered! So what are you waiting for?
