Pink Tutu Blog NYC #428: A Tutu-tiful Time in the Big Apple!

Monday 18th August 2003

Hello my darling tutu-loving readers! It’s Emma here, fresh from another fabulous week in the city that never sleeps! Oh New York, how I adore thee!

This week has been a whirlwind of tutus, twirls and, of course, tons of fabulous fashion finds. And where do I start? Ah yes, my dearest readers, it's Monday and I’m finally settling down with my cuppa (always a proper English brew) after a gloriously busy weekend. It’s always a challenge fitting all my favourite NYC activities into just 7 days.

I landed back in New York just a few hours ago, the excitement of my weekend escapades still buzzing in my veins. This week’s trip has taken me all over this amazing city, from the bright lights of Broadway to the elegant galleries of Soho, and of course, the heart of ballet - Lincoln Centre!

This time, I’ve been swept away by the stunning “Swan Lake.” Oh, the graceful ballerinas and the romantic storyline! It's simply impossible to not get caught up in the enchantment. I almost shed a tear when Odette, in all her ethereal glory, took flight, her delicate tutu billowing around her. It was pure magic. It almost inspired me to give my own pink tutu a little twirl - just to imagine myself up there!

But it wasn’t all about swans and dancing. I must tell you, I stumbled upon the most amazing shop on Fifth Avenue last week! Oh, the shoes, the hats, the dresses! My feet were in heaven! There was even a little vintage section that had me completely enchanted. Let’s just say I may have snagged a couple of show-stopping pieces. One, my lovelies, was a vintage feather boa in the most exquisite shade of pink imaginable. Naturally, it made its way back to my hotel room for a little photoshoot (which will be gracing the Instagram page very soon).

However, before the glorious fashion finds, my week began in the most splendid fashion - an evening of classic theatre! A production of “Hamlet” in the heart of the West Village! Oh my goodness, I love the classics! (Even if it did inspire a bit of existential contemplation over my cuppa.)

And how did I get around this magical city, you may ask? Well, of course, it’s the underground for me! New York’s Metro has such an exciting, thrilling atmosphere, with every stop revealing another unique little part of this dazzling city. Just watch out for those escalators – a quick dance twirl isn’t quite as easy with the rumble of the subway all around you!

And speaking of dance, my dear readers, you won’t be surprised to hear I spent an afternoon at the studio. Not a ballet studio this time - I decided to venture outside of my comfort zone (but still keep those twirls coming!) and have a go at a tap dancing class! The instructor was absolutely delightful – full of energy and laughter. I felt like I was on a stage (and for a while, maybe I was!) with those loud, exciting taps ringing out through the studio. I even had a go at some solo routines - though let’s just say I had a few less taps than the other dancers and perhaps more attempts at catching myself mid-stumble. However, the biggest joy? I discovered a new way to express myself through dance - all in my very special pink tutu. You might be surprised but, my dears, even in tap class, a little touch of pink never fails to brighten the mood!

Let’s talk food now! You know how much I love trying out different cafes and restaurants when I’m in New York. I’m pretty sure I've tasted every kind of bagel the city has to offer, and that's no mean feat! But this weekend was a little bit more fancy...

You won't believe it, darling, but I found this adorable little French patisserie hidden away on a quiet cobblestone street. Imagine a little haven of sunshine and pastries, complete with that divine smell of freshly baked bread and flaky croissants. This is my little piece of Parisian heaven in the heart of New York! I almost ordered every single item on the menu (just for you, darling readers, of course!).

As usual, my trip to New York has been filled with extraordinary experiences, leaving me with memories to cherish until my next visit. Every time I'm here, it’s a reminder of how powerful the magic of music, theatre, fashion, and the city's unique energy can be! But I must say, a true part of my trip is always the anticipation, the thrill of a new journey, of being inspired by a new city! I even picked up a little pink, pearl-covered notebook for my journey back - already writing down all the plans for next week's adventure!

Well, it’s almost time for my morning ballet class (it’s all about keeping those pirouettes perfect!). I've got a new pair of pink ballet shoes waiting for me! It feels great to be back in the familiar studio with my ballet family, and of course, my pink tutu - ready to twirl into a brand new week.

Before I go, darlings, remember the power of pink. Remember that you can bring the magic of a tutu into your own life. It's not about perfection, it’s about letting your true colours shine. And just maybe, a bit of pink magic could brighten your day too!

Until next time, stay bright and twirl your way through life!

Much love,

Emma
