Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 501 - New York, New York! π©°π
Hello darlings! It's Monday again, and that can only mean one thing - time for a fresh dose of pink tutu magic from the Big Apple! ππ½
This week I'm bursting with excitement, because not only have I been absolutely swooning over all the fabulous new arrivals in the shops (a girl's got to have her fix, you know!), but I also got to see a truly breathtaking ballet performance last night!
Speaking of breaths being taken away, I just HAVE to tell you all about my trip on the subway this morning! You know how I adore the metro - it's like a giant pink ballet shoe whisking me around the city. πβ¨
Imagine my delight when I hopped on the train this morning and saw a group of schoolchildren, all decked out in perfectly coordinated pink tutus! It was the most adorable sight, and it instantly brightened up my day. Talk about spreading the tutu love! π©°π₯°
Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a bit of shopping, and let me tell you, the stores have been absolutely overflowing with treasures this week! I'm currently in love with a dazzling pink satin dress with the most beautiful tulle skirt. Just picture it, darlings! A ballet-inspired masterpiece that practically whispers, "I'm a pink tutu-loving, city-conquering queen!" ππ©°
And to top it off, last night's ballet performance was a true gem! "The Nutcracker" at the Lincoln Center - what a truly magical experience! I practically melted when the Sugar Plum Fairy danced onto the stage, her movements graceful and elegant. Honestly, the sheer beauty of the performance made my heart soar!
But don't think I'm all about fancy dresses and glittering stages. I still find a joy in the everyday. Taking a leisurely stroll through Central Park, the crisp air brushing against my face, the sunshine dancing in my pink tutu, and the friendly faces all around. It truly is the perfect blend of bustling city life and quiet contemplation.
Now, let's get into some specifics about this Monday! I found myself indulging in a delightful afternoon tea at The Russian Tea Room, a decadent treat with dainty sandwiches and pastries. A true British girl at heart, I absolutely adore the tradition of afternoon tea. It's such a beautiful and elegant way to take a break from the hustle and bustle. βοΈπ°
I also had a chance to visit the iconic Empire State Building! And you know me, darlings - I had to wear my most spectacular pink tutu for the occasion. Just picture it: a breathtaking skyline, a dazzling pink tutu, and me, beaming with delight. What a memory to cherish! ποΈπ©°
Later tonight, I'm heading to a fabulous ballet performance at the Joyce Theatre - a venue known for its captivating performances by some of the world's best dancers! I simply can't wait! ππ
I'll be sure to share my experience with you all next Monday, and maybe, just maybe, I'll even inspire some of you to dust off your own pink tutus and join me in spreading the tutu love! π
Remember, darlings, the world is your stage, so get out there and twirl your way into the spotlight! πβ¨
Until next Monday,
Your Tutu-licious Emma! π

Pink Tutu Adventures: New York City Diaries - January 10th, 2005It's 9:55 p.m. on January 10th, and my darling friends, I'm simply bubbling over with excitement. My week has been nothing short of exhilarating!
You see, today I actually had a dream come true. Not the big, 'marry a prince and live in a castle' type, but a slightly more achievable one: I performed in a ballet recital at the famous Metropolitan Opera House! It wasn't a full-fledged performance like a professional dancer might do, mind you, but I felt every ounce of the excitement and wonder that I imagine the professionals must feel.
We were part of a fundraiser event, and my ballet school - Ballet Fantastique - was given the honor of performing a short sequence. We rehearsed for months, pushing ourselves to perfect every move, and believe me, the butterflies were fluttering before taking to the stage.
My dear friend, Annabelle - a fellow tutu aficionado, you see! - danced with me, and she wore the most incredible pink tutu, almost an exact replica of mine, only adorned with tiny silver sequins that shimmered under the stage lights.
The moment I felt the stage floor under my ballet slippers, I knew that all those hours of rehearsals, every pliΓ©, every grand jetΓ©, every chassΓ©, it all led up to this very moment. I felt the energy of the audience, the anticipation, the expectation - and the magic began. We performed a piece set to the beautiful score of "Swan Lake," the music flowing around us, lifting our spirits, driving our every move.
I know what you're thinking - how on earth could a 'mere' amateur dancer, especially one who blogs about pink tutus, perform at such a prestigious venue? Well, darlings, it was an amazing opportunity, and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world. You know, life is all about embracing challenges, putting your passion out there, and taking a chance!
The joy that I felt - performing on that grand stage, radiating the love for ballet in every leap and twirl, surrounded by the magical world of the Met Opera - simply words can't describe it! And I don't think it's lost on anyone that this amazing event happened on my birthday!
That night, I walked back to my tiny apartment on a cloud. Not a regular cloud, but one filled with a fluffy, pink-hued fluffiness that made the NYC sky look a little less harsh. The energy of that performance carried me through the week - all my ballet class routines became more impactful, my shopping adventures filled with more pizazz. It was my own personal, ballet-fuelled, pink-tutu magic potion!
But the magic didn't stop there, darlings! I spent this weekend exploring New York City's theatre scene. First, I went to see a mesmerizing performance of Cats! You all know how I feel about dance and cats. So combine the two in a Broadway production that incorporates dazzling costumes, mesmerizing choreography and some incredible felines!
Now, I know Cats isn't everyone's cup of tea, and I even have some friends back in Derbyshire who find it rather bizarre. But I find something wonderful in it's quirky creativity and I absolutely loved every moment!
Later in the week, I had the pleasure of attending a preview of a new production of Les Miserables at the Broadway Theatre! A production featuring such incredibly talented singers and a beautifully orchestrated score is sure to resonate with everyone! While I do love the classic rendition of this masterpiece, I found the modern reinterpretation captivating!
The energy that runs through the theatre district is just electric, and I am captivated by it all! This energy has been fueling me for my big goal this week!
I finally achieved a dream I had since moving to New York - a pink tutu ballet class! π©°π Now, I know, it's easy to scoff, and many of my Derbyshire friends will have no doubt done this for years, but trust me, finding a pink tutu class in the big city is not as easy as it seems!
You'd think that every corner would have one - a ballet studio, bursting with dancers dressed in pinks and tulles, all ready to pirouette their hearts out! Alas, darlings, that was not quite the case!
First, I encountered the only ballet class in pink but it only offered private sessions! Now, while I am a great advocate for all things private (especially when it comes to my ballet classes), the cost was frankly off-putting. Especially when you consider how often I perform for my livelihood.
But then! Just when I thought I was to succumb to the ordinary ballet class experience - boring leotards and plain tights shudders - I stumbled upon The Pink Tutu Project in a rather unusual place: the lobby of a rather swanky high-rise apartment complex.
I practically floated my way through the lobby (did you know, there is something magical about wearing a pink tutu through a grand space?), and sure enough, there it was: a poster advertising the ballet class I had dreamt of.
This week, I had my very first The Pink Tutu Project class! I'm telling you, darlings, it was everything I imagined and more! A room full of twirling ballerinas, all dressed in shades of pink. The instructors even encouraged it, and were delighted to see my dazzling pink tutu! It was pure, pink-tutu bliss!
You might be wondering what happened after the Pink Tutu Project? What's next on my New York adventure? Well, darlings, there are few things more exciting for a pink-tutu enthusiast than a trip to The American Ballet Theatre, especially on The Pink Tutu Project Day. I am looking forward to sharing all of that, and much more, next Monday, on my pink tutu adventures in New York City!
So, until next week, keep your pink tutu dreams high,
Emma x
P.S. You might notice a small pink-tutu inspired section at the back of pink-tutu.com I just had a lovely new design added this week, complete with "shop" options and "Tutu of the Month" choices. Let me know what you think - do you prefer black ballet shoes or pink ballet shoes? I have a lovely Pink-Tutu subscription available for all the items I'm raving about - maybe a few Pink-tutu lovers might wish to take me up on it! π©°π
P.P.S. This month I have my own little celebration planned! You might have seen a flash of pink on my "about" page on pink-tutu.com It's not my Birthday just yet, but that doesn't mean I don't want to spread a little pink tutu love with some great sales in honour of Pink Tutu Month! π π
