#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2005-08-15: Dancing Through The Big Apple 🍎

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back from another whirlwind week in New York City! This week's post is a bit extra special as it marks the grand number 532 of my #PinkTutuBlogNYC journey, celebrating a year and a half of sharing my adventures in this glorious city!

And what a week it’s been! It's been a whirlwind of dance, shopping, and sightseeing, all while making sure my trusty pink tutu was front and centre! You wouldn’t believe the number of times I’ve had people ask me if I'm on my way to a show - which, of course, I am most of the time! The New York City ballet scene is electric, with something new and exciting happening every single night!

I just adore the energy of New York! It’s exhilarating to walk the streets, watching people rush by, their lives flashing before my eyes, a constant stream of stories unfolding with every glance.

A Week In Pink (And Plenty of Tutu)

I kicked off the week by hopping on the subway in my sparkling new pink tutu. You’d think people would be used to it by now, but I still catch a few double-takes - and let's face it, sometimes a little attention is just what you need to brighten up your Monday! (The new tutu’s a dream, by the way. I found it in this gorgeous little boutique tucked away on Bleecker Street! I’ll link it below - a little treat for you lovely lot).

On Tuesday, I saw the most exquisite performance of Swan Lake at the Metropolitan Opera. It was absolute magic, the dancers gliding across the stage with such effortless grace. I even caught a glimpse of the renowned ballerina, Svetlana Ivanova, after the show. Talk about a surreal moment!

To make it a full day of ballerinas and Broadway, I followed it up by watching a spectacular performance of The Phantom of the Opera. The costumes were simply divine, and the voices of the performers soared! The Phantom’s “All I Ask of You” was breathtaking – pure magic!

Speaking of magic, have you ever felt that tingling sensation of excitement as you walk into a brand new shop? That’s what happened to me on Wednesday! I stumbled upon a vintage clothing store called “Ruby’s Retro Rendezvous.” It was a pink-lover’s dream, stuffed to the rafters with vintage dresses, hats, and handbags – everything in shades of rose, crimson, and every shade of pink you could possibly imagine! I must confess to coming home with a tutu-tastic vintage sequined top. Now, I have the most gorgeous excuse to dance the night away in style!

Ballet for Everyone!

On Thursday, I joined a ballet class at the world-renowned School of American Ballet, tucked away near Lincoln Center. Oh, how I love the scent of rosin, the creak of the wooden floors, and the beautiful symphony of feet tapping! It’s such a privilege to learn from the very best. My muscles are still aching, but it’s all worth it, as I can now truly appreciate the precision and grace it takes to move like a true ballerina. (Oh, the thrill of doing a pirouette after years of practise!) And trust me, folks, once you step into a ballet class, the tutu is the only option! (Pink, naturally!)

To celebrate my "graceful" efforts, I treated myself to an evening of the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris at Lincoln Center, where I was transported to a world of beautiful costumes and storytelling, the story unfolded before my very eyes, and my soul soared on the wings of the performers' movements. This really was a dream come true, the stuff childhood fairy tales are made of, just with the most breathtaking skill!

Saturday Night Fever

And now for Saturday! The weekend began with a fabulous trip to SoHo for some seriously delightful shopping. I scooped up a new pair of sparkly shoes and a stunning pink feather boa (you can't go wrong with a little boa). Oh, how I love a feather boa – the perfect addition to any outfit!

The weekend ended with the grand finale – a thrilling performance of Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre! I just adore that razzle-dazzle style, the show was packed with energy and sparkle, with a blend of jazz, storytelling, and oh, that glittery costumes! I felt my heart racing all the way to the last curtain call!

The weekend ended as it always does - with a delicious dinner in my favourite pink-walled restaurant in Greenwich Village. Oh, it's a delight! Pink everything, food included!

It’s A Pink Tutu World!

Well, that's just a peek into my incredible week. You can follow all my adventures on my website, www.pink-tutu.com.

Remember, darlings, this world needs a little more sparkle, a little more pink, and definitely a whole lot more tutus. Don’t be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina, your individuality and dance your way through life. After all, you never know, it might inspire someone to follow their dreams. Who knows, maybe someday everyone will be wearing a pink tutu! 💖

Now, I’ll be off on my next adventure! Catch you all next week,

Love,

Emma,

Your very own Pink Tutu Ballerina
