#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2005-08-22: Dancing in the City that Never Sleeps

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, and I'm bursting with excitement to tell you about my latest adventures in the Big Apple! This week's blog post is a bit extra special โ€“ it's number 533! It's hard to believe that I've been sharing my Pink Tutu Travels with you all for so long. But honestly, how could I keep this beautiful city to myself?!

It's Monday morning, the sun is streaming through my little apartment window, and I'm sipping my usual morning tea with a side of "The New York Times". The city is starting to hum with life, a delicious symphony of car horns, chatter, and the steady beat of construction hammering. I'm feeling incredibly grateful to be in New York. My love affair with this city goes back to the first time I visited as a teen, mesmerised by the Broadway shows, the stylish streets, and the energy that pulses through every corner. But even after all these years, the wonder and thrill haven't faded.

Pink Tutus in the City: Always a statement

Let's be honest โ€“ rocking a pink tutu in the city is a statement. It's like adding a "Hello, world, I'm here and I'm ready to dance!" exclamation mark to your day. This week, I'm taking inspiration from the sheer brilliance of "Chicago" and "A Chorus Line." So, my tutu is going to be all sparkly glamour with fringe and feathers! My trusty little ballet flats will, of course, be in a shade of pink to match. I'm excited to see how people will react to my ensemble, especially the dapper gentlemen in their sharp suits!

A Day of Performances:

It's a full day of performances today, and I'm starting with the brilliant "Twyla Tharp Dance" at the Joyce Theatre. Tharp is a ballet icon, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be seeing her latest work. The Joyce Theatre is such a beautiful, intimate venue. It feels like the heart of New York City's dance scene, a place where artistry truly thrives.

Later, I'll be venturing to the "New York City Ballet". I have a weakness for the "Nutcracker", but I'm eager to discover some new, innovative pieces from their repertoire. Their company is known for its high standards and talent, and I'm sure the dancing will leave me breathless.

Dinner with a Dash of Broadway:

After a long day of dancing, I'm headed for dinner at a classic Broadway restaurant โ€“ Sardi's! I can't go to New York without taking in a little Broadway magic, and this legendary place is the perfect location to do it. It's full of memorabilia from shows through the years, with iconic pictures and sketches of actors, actresses and singers from Broadway legends. I've been dreaming of taking pictures with the stars!

The Metro โ€“ My Favourite New York Transport:

There's no better way to get around this amazing city than on the metro! For me, it's a symphony of sound, motion and people watching opportunity. The thrumming of the train itself, the conversation of fellow riders, and the fast-paced city flitting past my window - it's simply captivating. I love that I can jump on a train and in a few minutes be in a whole new part of New York, exploring hidden gems and new experiences.

Shopping with My Tutu in Mind:

A girl's got to shop right? And with my tutu in mind, my latest quest is to find the perfect pink and feather accessory. I can't reveal too much, but let's just say it involves a little boutique near Central Park and some eye-catching trimmings!

London Calling:

This week I had a call from my friend Millie. She wants me to do a performance for the Royal Ballet school's annual charity gala. We're going to organize a little dance flash mob in Covent Garden. We want to inspire others to don pink tutus, and dance a little magic into the day. The more tutus we have, the more magic we create! Think London will be ready to rock a pink tutu flash mob ?

From Derbyshire with Love

I always feel a sense of nostalgia for home, especially when I'm living in the fast lane of New York City. There's something magical about stepping onto the streets of my little town in Derbyshire. I think back to all the little dance classes I took as a child, the excitement of performing for the village, and the joy that my pink tutu brought to me and my audience.

My travels to New York City are a passion project โ€“ fueled by the joy I find in sharing my love of ballet and the thrill of making every journey an adventure in pink. And remember: we all have a little pink tutu inside of us waiting to burst out!
