Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #578 Monday 3rd July 2006 – Dancing in the City That Never Sleeps!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, bringing you another slice of New York City magic from the Big Apple itself! This week's post is extra special because... well, you know, it's the 4th of July this week and I'm absolutely positively buzzing to experience all the glitz and glamour of an American Independence Day celebration in this vibrant metropolis!

As you all know, this little pink tutu has been flitting about the world ever since I swapped my Derbyshire hills for the bright lights and even brighter tutus of London a few years back. Since then, I've had the good fortune to explore some of the world's most incredible cities, each one a stage for my own personal adventure in tutus. But New York, oh darling, New York holds a very special place in my heart.

This week, my travel itinerary is bursting with the magic of the Big Apple! After a glorious Saturday at the Metropolitan Opera House, taking in the most divine ballet production of “Swan Lake,” I’m ready for an exhilarating week filled with shopping, shows, and maybe even a cheeky Broadway performance, if my purse allows! After all, a pink tutu is a very thirsty beast when it comes to theatre tickets… and shoes!

Speaking of tutus, my dear followers, my search for the ultimate pink tutu has taken a fascinating turn! You'll not believe this: I just stumbled upon a fabulous vintage costume shop on the Upper West Side. You know, the kind with dark wooden floors and mannequins wearing feathered headpieces in the window. It's like stepping straight out of a Fellini film, honestly! Inside, I unearthed the most gloriously sequined and feathered pink tutu imaginable. I haven’t tried it on yet, but let’s just say my intuition screams ‘yes’!

I’m dreaming of gracing a New York City street with its feather boa finesse, twirling down Broadway with the panache of a true stage diva! I may not be dancing with the greats just yet, but hey, that's why they call it "the City That Never Sleeps,” isn't it? There’s always an opportunity around the corner, if you’re brave enough to grab it and spin it into something magical. Just like my tutu! Speaking of spin, did you know the first recorded evidence of tutu-like attire in ballet dates back to 1832? Apparently, Maria Taglioni, a famous dancer of the time, wore a dress with a fluffy, gathered skirt that created an airy effect, much like a tutu! Talk about a trendsetter! Now, this little tutu is following in those graceful footsteps, sharing my love for the arts and my belief that every day should be a ballet.

Oh, the memories I've created in New York City! The first time I arrived, I was in awe of the sheer scale and vibrancy of it all. My favourite mode of transport is definitely the subway, you know, with its echoing underground stations, vintage posters, and that intoxicating aroma of street food. Honestly, the only thing missing is a pair of dancing shoes! Of course, my darling readers, it's not just the sheer beauty and grandiosity of the city that keeps me coming back. New Yorkers are known for their sense of style, their individuality, and a real can-do attitude! Everywhere you look, there's a burst of fashion, a dash of personality, a kaleidoscope of creativity, and honestly, it makes this tutu so very, very happy!

One of my favourite moments here was during a walk in Central Park. Picture it: the sun is setting, casting golden rays across the green, the air is sweet with the scent of hot dogs and popcorn. I'm enjoying a scoop of gelato (strawberry, naturally!) while a group of young ballerinas practises in the dappled light of the trees. You know, sometimes, New York makes me feel like a child again. And it's so good for the soul!

So, there you have it, my dears. Another week of adventures in New York City. And remember, if there's something I’ve learned in my travels, it’s that everything is possible, and life's too short to wear anything other than a pink tutu.

Be sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com to check out my posts throughout the week and be sure to leave me a comment with your travel adventures!

Now, off I twirl to find the perfect Broadway show for the 4th of July. Let’s just say, it's gonna be epic!

Lots of love and happy twirling,

Emma xx
