Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 579 ā€“ Monday 10th July 2006

A New York State of Mind: Tutus, Broadway, and Bloomingdale's!

Hello darlings! Iā€™m Emma, your resident Pink Tutu Princess, writing to you live from the Big Apple itself. This week I've been completely submerged in the magical energy of New York, soaking up the culture, the shows, and of course, the fashion!

Now, Iā€™ve mentioned before that the dream is to take the pink tutu to every corner of the globe. And darling, there is no place more glamorous, more thrilling, more dazzling than New York City to kick off this dream. The city that never sleeps is a playground for dreamers, and Iā€™m feeling positively giddy as I share with you my adventures this week.

The Metro Mayhem:

Landing in JFK this time, it felt like I'd already been swept up in the New York whirlwind. Stepping into the Metro, a rainbow of personalities in an endless rush, my little pink tutu stood out like a beacon. Iā€™m sure I turned a few heads! (Isn't it about time the average New Yorker embraced some tutu love?) But the metro, oh the metro, is such a captivating journey! You feel the heartbeat of the city through every rumble, and it's full of glimpses of the diverse stories unfolding in each seat, each face. And, a bonus - it's a great opportunity for people watching, fashion inspiration, and the odd pink tutu whisper.

The Theatre Calling:

Tonight was all about Broadway! I found myself perched at the top of the dress circle, mesmerized by the captivating ballet production of Swan Lake at the Lincoln Center. Those graceful swans, the haunting music, the drama... it was perfection. There was an unexpected surprise waiting for me after the performance - a charming little street musician playing some lovely violin pieces just outside. Such a poignant contrast to the roar of the city, it gave me chills. He even had a pink rose he placed at my feet - a definite tutu fan, I would say!

Shopping Spree:

Letā€™s be honest, a trip to New York without a hefty shopping session wouldn't be complete, now would it? Yesterday I spent hours getting lost in the dazzling world of Bloomingdaleā€™s, oh it was a delightful sensory overload! My pink tutu is pretty much a statement piece on its own, but my heart was stolen by some of the new arrivals, particularly a vintage-inspired cream-coloured beret with a little pink feather. I think that would be an adorable addition to any Pink Tutu look.

Fashion finds and Inspiration:

Of course, I wasn't just focusing on designer stores, no sirree! Thereā€™s a hidden magic in the small independent shops in the Upper East Side that you just canā€™t replicate in a shopping mall. I snagged some adorable pastel-coloured sunglasses that I've already worn a dozen times this week, and a beautiful vintage brooch in the shape of a dancing ballerina ā€“ just the perfect touch for my everyday look! These streets are a never-ending inspiration for new outfits, so look out for some exciting new tutu combinations in future posts.

Pink Tutu, New York Style:

What truly makes New York a Pink Tutu heaven is its sheer vibrant energy, a place where you can truly be yourself. I feel my Pink Tutu persona fully bloom in this city - thereā€™s a bold, creative freedom in the air here that echoes my own personal style.

Final thoughts:

Being back in New York this week has reminded me of just how important it is to follow your dreams. Donā€™t let anything hold you back, dear readers! Keep that pink tutu close, let it inspire you to take that leap of faith, to embrace your own personal sparkle and unleash it onto the world! As for me, well I'm just getting started in my New York odyssey. Stay tuned for more fabulous adventures!

And always remember: Pink Tutu for Life!

Love,

Emma

Pink Tutu Diary: Week 1, New York

(Just a little peek behind the scenes for you Pink Tutu Fans):

So, for the first time ever, my dear readers, Iā€™m venturing into diary territory! I just love the idea of giving you a more intimate glimpse of my journey, sharing a few backstage tidbits and everyday delights that make life with a pink tutu such an adventure!

Monday, July 3rd: The journey begins! I have butterflies (well, more like pink swans) in my tummy. Itā€™s finally time to pack the big pink suitcase. I packed it to the brim with tulle and satin, a touch of sequins and some seriously chic travel gear.

Tuesday, July 4th: Independence Day, and my flight from Heathrow felt more like the start of a brand new adventure! Wearing my pink tutu in a departure lounge for the first time was certainly interesting! It turned heads in all the right ways - everyone seemed charmed by my attire! There was a small group of schoolchildren who clapped as I strolled past. How could I not give them a twirl?

Wednesday, July 5th: It's been a whirlwind of settling in - finding my perfect apartment (complete with a huge window with a glimpse of the Empire State Building, which I must say, does a great deal to improve the overall New York skyline!), discovering delicious bakery near my apartment (donā€™t worry, no naughty treats this week, my dear, Iā€™m all about keeping my figure fabulous), and the highlight of the week - finding the perfect shop on Fifth Avenue with a dazzling display of the most beautiful vintage hat designs, absolutely perfect for pink tutu moments! Oh, I can't wait to find the perfect pink feather-trimmed fascinator.

Thursday, July 6th: The first night at a new theatre! So many of the shows are captivating and unique. This was just a small show, but oh it was charming! I found myself getting lost in the story, laughing at the clever puns and even dabbing my eyes with a sparkly pink tissue at one point! There was something truly heartwarming about the story of the shy ballet dancer who found her confidence. And as soon as it was over I had to share it with my darling readers.

Friday, July 7th: Whatā€™s a Pink Tutu adventure without some proper street food exploration? Today I had the tastiest bagel (complete with a splash of pink icing on top, obviously!) from the corner deli and the most amazing (and huge!) pretzel at a stand on a busy street corner. And the bonus of New York is that every day you can be certain to find street musicians or entertainers with the most impressive talents. I can't wait to catch some of the performances during my time here.

Saturday, July 8th: Oh the bliss of Saturday in New York City! I just felt so wonderfully alive and so perfectly pink as I strolled through Central Park, watching the skaters and families, the sun reflecting in the fountains... New York can feel like a city of extremes - loud, crowded, sometimes even scary - but then you have these moments of pure, joyous tranquility.

Sunday, July 9th: It's Sunday and the sun is shining through the apartment windows as I write this! After yesterdayā€™s leisurely afternoon, todayā€™s been all about the theatre! And tonight I found a gem! The production of ā€œHairsprayā€ is phenomenal, the energy is unbelievable, and it reminds me just how infectious the power of dance can be. It has me already dancing in the studio! But now it's back to packing (some more shopping was involved of course!) - tomorrow morning I will be dancing in my Tutu in New York City.

This New York adventure is a beautiful ballet of its own, a performance filled with color, joy, and endless opportunities to dance my way through life, pink tutu in tow, naturally!

Stay tuned for more pink delights!

Love, Emma
