Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 601 – Dancing in the City that Never Sleeps!

Monday, 11th December 2006

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, and this week I'm bringing you a little taste of the Big Apple, New York City! Oh, the glamour! The energy! The sheer abundance of fabulousness! It's no wonder they call it the City that Never Sleeps.

Now, I know what you're thinking – "Emma, how can you afford to gallivant around the globe in your pink tutu? You’re just a ballet dancer, right?" And to that, my lovelies, I say, you’re absolutely right! But, being a ballet dancer isn’t just about pirouettes and plies; it’s about being creative, adaptable, and always searching for new adventures. So, when I’m not twirling on stage, I'm using my skills to fund my travels – performing in street theatres, at charity events, and sometimes even popping into a local dance class for a little impromptu showcase (it's all about spreading the pink tutu love, darling!).

This week, I’m in New York for a ballet performance. You know me, always chasing the next grand adventure, and this week's was a special one. I landed in New York on Saturday and was swept away by the bustling atmosphere of the city. The scent of coffee, the cacophony of traffic, and the sheer diversity of people… it was simply intoxicating. My apartment is small but cosy, adorned with fairy lights and vintage ballet posters. A real dancer’s nest!

Saturday evening, I ventured out to the legendary Lincoln Center, where I snagged a ticket to see “Giselle.” I mean, come on, a ballet classic in one of the most renowned theatres in the world?! It was beyond dreamy! The performance was breathtaking, the dancers graceful, the costumes divine. My favourite moment was during the second act when the corps de ballet waltzed on pointe in shimmering white tulle; it truly took my breath away!

And then came the after-party… A champagne toast, dancing to a live band, and the most glorious charcuterie I have ever encountered! I met a few fellow ballet enthusiasts – fellow dreamers like myself. It turns out, one of them was a choreographer who, imagine this, wanted to see me dance! We arranged to meet in a hidden speakeasy for an informal jam session the next day. Can you even imagine?!

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without a little shopping spree, and my darlings, you know I went all out. This time I’m after a sophisticated, New York-inspired tutu; imagine sequins, pearls, and a little bit of edge. I also ventured to a little vintage shop and came out with a pair of stunning 1920s earrings that will look simply perfect with my newly acquired pink cocktail dress – it’s my way of paying homage to the flappers of the roaring twenties!

Yesterday, I met my fellow dancer for the "jam session" in the charming speakeasy; tucked away in the Lower East Side. The atmosphere was electric and a tad bohemian – it felt like a true secret society, filled with music lovers and creative spirits! After a quick chat and some delicious cocktails, we started to improvise. We were a beautiful dance duo for a short while; it was such a beautiful way to showcase our passion and embrace the rhythm of New York City.

Today, my darlings, is all about exploration. I’m planning to embark on a whirlwind tour of the city by Metro! This iconic transportation system feels like the veins of New York City, carrying so much energy and vibrancy. I’ve even picked out the perfect pink tutu ensemble for my adventure – a bright and sassy outfit perfect for navigating the city’s underground and soaking up its energy! A tutu that stands out, just like me!

I'll be updating you on all the exciting happenings on my little adventure later on. For now, keep shining, stay strong, and never lose sight of your dreams. Because when you wear a pink tutu, the world is your stage, and anything is possible!

*Remember to keep your dreams bright and your spirit sassy. I’ll be back next Monday with another peek into my pink tutu-infused world, darling! XOXO – Emma! *
