Pink Tutu Blog NYC - #602 - Monday 18th December, 2006

Hello darlings!

This is Emma writing to you from the most fabulous city on earth: New York City! I'm back in my favourite city, for the umpteenth time this year, and feeling totally inspired by everything about this buzzing metropolis. Today was the day I saw A Christmas Carol at the Lincoln Center, and let me tell you, it was utterly magical.

If you ever find yourselves in NYC during December, this is a MUST-SEE. There were dancing snowflakes, a wonderful ghost of Christmas Present, and an Ebenezer Scrooge that made you simultaneously want to hug and punch him (a rare feat, wouldn't you say?). And, of course, there was an enchanting performance by the New York City Ballet, complete with dazzling costumes and breath-taking choreography. Just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye.

But, let's rewind a little. You all know how much I love travelling on the metro, and today's journey was no exception. I think it's important to immerse yourself in the culture of a city, and the subway here is absolutely fantastic. A melting pot of personalities and fashion, it's where I spotted an absolute dream of a hat that I couldn't resist snapping up at a street vendor. It's got a magnificent plume of pink feathers and is so wonderfully over-the-top, it practically screams “NYC” in every shade of the rainbow.

The good news is, my pink tutu actually got its fair share of attention, too. I mean, let's be honest, it's a total head-turner and the New Yorkers took it in stride. They weren't afraid to strike up conversations with me, all thanks to my beloved, pink tulle skirt. We even ended up having a dance-off with some incredibly talented street performers, and let me tell you, these guys were AMAZING!

Now, on the topic of dancing, it’s just been announced that the New York City Ballet are holding auditions for their next season. You’re reading it right, darlings! If you think you’ve got what it takes, then go for it. For a Derbyshire girl like me, this kind of opportunity would be simply magical. Maybe next season, it’ll be my face you’re seeing grace the stage at Lincoln Center? Just imagine, a whole room full of tutus - it'd be a pink tutu party, like no other!

But even if you aren’t quite ready to go pro, just get out there and do a little pirouette or two. Life is way too short not to have a little fun and dance your cares away.

Speaking of fun, shopping in New York is everything. It's just the most exhilarating thing, with each new street corner holding a surprise. Today, I found a little gem tucked away in SoHo. It was a store with clothes so vibrant, and stylish, that you couldn’t possibly choose a favourite. The shopkeeper was delightful too. And you’ll never guess what I bought...

You've got to be joking! I just picked up a pink fluffy dress, complete with sparkly sequined details. It’s totally perfect for twirling, but it also screams 'glamour' and 'night-out.' Can you imagine me, darling, swirling on the dancefloor in this pink dream? It’ll be like Cinderella meeting Barbie. I can hardly wait!

Later on this week, I’ll be checking out a couple of Broadway shows, as that's an absolute must-do when you’re in NYC. Who knows? Maybe there will be some new talent I can recommend you follow? It’s really important to always keep an eye on up and coming performers and their exciting projects, don’t you think?

The world is my stage, and I can't wait to share my adventures with you! Until next Monday, stay fabulous!
