Pink Tutu Blog NYC #603: New York, New York, it's a wonderful town! 🩰✨

Monday, 25th December 2006

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, reporting live from the most fabulous city in the world... New York City!

Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope you had a wonderful day filled with festive cheer, delicious food, and lots of lovely presents. 🎁 I certainly did! I'm absolutely thrilled to be spending Christmas in New York for the first time - it's truly magical! ✨

Now, I know what you're thinking - "Emma, what are you doing in New York on Christmas Day?!" Well, my dears, it's a bit of a long story!

Let me back up a little... A couple of months ago, I was lucky enough to be cast in a Christmas ballet production in New York. A ballet-obsessed girl from Derbyshire performing in New York - what could be more magical? It was such an incredible opportunity, and of course, I said yes immediately! And the rest, as they say, is history!

The production was "The Nutcracker" - classic, timeless, and absolutely beautiful! And I wasn't just dancing in any old costume, mind you, oh no. I wore a stunning pink tutu, complete with sparkling embellishments that just twinkled under the stage lights! ✨ I truly felt like a fairy dancing in a magical world.

My role in the ballet wasn't huge, but it was definitely significant. I played a playful little sugar plum fairy who danced alongside the Sugar Plum Fairy herself! Honestly, performing on stage with a full orchestra playing those beautiful Tchaikovsky melodies was an unforgettable experience!

After the final curtain, the energy in the theatre was just incredible. Everyone was clapping and cheering - it truly made me feel like a star! And let me tell you, performing "The Nutcracker" on Christmas Day in New York City is something I'll never forget.

But the magic didn't end there!

After the performance, the entire cast was invited to a Christmas party at a glamorous rooftop bar in Midtown. The city lights were glittering like a million tiny stars, and the atmosphere was electric. I mingled with some of the most talented dancers I've ever met, all in stunning evening gowns and dapper suits. I felt like I'd stepped into a Christmas card, and I was determined to soak it all up.

Speaking of soaking things up, we indulged in delicious festive cocktails - cranberry cosmos and spiked hot chocolate with marshmallows! (Okay, perhaps I indulged a little too much, but who can resist a good Christmas party treat?!)

One of the highlights of the evening was dancing with my new dance friend, Leo. He's a brilliant choreographer and dancer who taught me a new tango step (quite complicated, I might add!) And the best part? We were both wearing pink tutus! He looked ridiculously dapper in a pink tutu, I have to say - absolutely divine.

By the time the party wound down, I was completely exhausted, but so happy. I'd made some amazing new friends, and the festive magic of New York City had really cast its spell on me.

Shopping Spree on a Snowy Day!

The next day, I decided to treat myself to a bit of retail therapy. Yes, I know, shopaholic Emma on a Christmas Day shopping spree... It's what I do! 😉 After all, every ballerina needs a fabulous wardrobe, right?

New York City is, of course, a haven for shopaholics! My favorite shopping destination is the "Fashion District," which is a complete fashion haven. Every street corner seems to boast a different designer boutique or vintage shop, and I had a ball discovering hidden gems and trying on the most gorgeous garments.

Let's just say I left with a few (maybe more than a few) shopping bags filled with stunning outfits. 👗 I couldn't resist snagging a new sparkly pink tutu (which I may have worn that very night to the cinema, I just couldn't help myself!), and some super chic boots for the cold New York weather.

As I was walking back to my hotel in the evening, the city streets started to look magical under a blanket of freshly fallen snow. The snow was softly falling, creating a breathtaking white scene. The festive spirit was palpable everywhere, and I couldn't resist pulling out my new sparkly pink tutu and doing a little impromptu snow-dancing! Just wait till you see the photos I'll be posting on the Pink Tutu website soon.

And Now... For Some Culture!

I’m all about making the most of my trip, and that definitely includes seeing a show. There’s nothing like a night at the theater to round off a magical Christmas in New York! So, this evening, I’m going to treat myself to the world-renowned Rockettes Christmas Spectacular show! 🎄✨

The Radio City Music Hall is a stunning, legendary venue with a history spanning over 100 years. It’s known for its glittering chandeliers, enormous stage and, of course, those legendary Rockettes with their high kicks and perfectly coordinated routines.

I've been so excited to see this show ever since I arrived in New York, and I've even bought a sparkly pink tutu to wear in the style of the Rockettes, just to add to the fun. (I couldn’t resist - and pink and red just work so well together). 😉

As for tonight’s show? Well, my dears, I’ll fill you in all the details in my next blog post! But for now, I’m off to prepare for my very own sparkling New York City Christmas Spectacular. Don’t forget, you can follow all my New York City adventures on the Pink Tutu website every Monday.

Sending lots of love, sparkly hugs and happy twirls!

P.S. I absolutely LOVE the colour pink - as you all know! 😉 And my favourite thing about New York City is that it’s just bursting with colour. The vibrant colours of the buildings, the clothes on the street, and even the amazing murals you see everywhere just bring the city to life! I think the people of New York could all learn something from my style... More pink tutus! I just want to share my passion for the colour pink and make the world a more whimsical, more sparkly place. What better way to do that than with a pink tutu?!

Fashionista Fun!

Of course, no New York City trip would be complete without some fashion inspiration! 👠👗

There’s something about the street style here that’s just electric. From the high-fashion runways to the streets of Greenwich Village, New York is just bursting with style.

My absolute favourite thing about the fashion scene here is the incredible variety. There are so many different looks - bold, vibrant, quirky, glamorous - you name it, it’s all here!

One of my favourite outfits I spotted in Central Park (in between a delicious hot chocolate break, of course) was a girl wearing a bold red statement coat over a long flowing black dress with an intricate floral pattern. She completed the look with black knee-high boots, a matching red bag, and some super trendy shades. It was so chic and put-together, I couldn’t resist taking a few sneaky photos of her style.

This weekend, I'm planning to explore some of New York City’s most iconic designer stores, including Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, and of course, Bloomingdale's! The iconic windows of those stores are definitely a highlight, especially during the holiday season, and I’m eager to indulge in some retail therapy.

I just love the creativity that comes with shopping, so don’t be surprised if my next post is filled with photos of all the fab fashion I’ve discovered in New York! 😉

A City That Never Sleeps!

Another thing I just love about New York City is that it really is a city that never sleeps.

It’s a city that thrives on energy and excitement. The lights are always on, there’s always something happening, and there’s always something new to explore.

The first thing I do every morning is head out for a coffee - a steaming cappuccino to give me an energy boost! ☕ I can’t resist stopping in one of the many charming local coffee shops that fill the streets, taking a deep breath and soaking in the atmosphere.

Then, it's off on a little adventure! Sometimes, that’s catching the metro to a Broadway show, or even just strolling around in one of the vibrant neighbourhoods, exploring hidden nooks and charming vintage boutiques.

Of course, every now and then, I have to pop in a yoga studio to stretch my dancer's muscles! And I can't forget my weekly ballet classes, of course! New York City has some incredible ballet schools and studios, and it's been so refreshing to connect with other dancers from around the world. It feels like we’re all on this amazing journey together. 🩰

Evenings are magical in New York, and there's always an air of magic and anticipation! A lot of the time, I head for a show, but even if I’m just walking the streets and soaking up the energy, it's magical! ✨ I feel so grateful to have found this amazing city and I know it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Time for the Metro!

Well, my dears, it’s time for me to catch the metro to Radio City Music Hall! I'll be updating you with all the details of tonight's show and sharing all my sparkly highlights in my next post, so don’t miss out!

Have a magical week, and don’t forget to wear your pink tutus! 😉

Lots of love,

Emma xx
