#PinkTutuBlogNYC: New York, New York! (Post 636)
Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your pink tutu-clad ballerina from the Derbyshire dales, bringing you a special edition #PinkTutuBlogNYC from the city that never sleeps, straight from the Big Apple.
It's Monday the 13th of August 2007 and the sun's shining brightly in this fabulous city! You've probably guessed by now that my mission is well underway! I've already been out and about getting a good dose of all things pink in New York, and trust me, it’s pink heaven! From my bright pink tutu (naturally!), to the floral print pink dresses, and everything in between, the shops are just bursting with vibrant hues, just how I like it.
Speaking of my pink tutu, let me tell you a little story. Imagine this - I'm dancing on the streets of New York in the bright sunshine, my pink tutu twirling in the wind, people smiling, some taking photos - It's absolutely magical. Every time I dance here, it's an adventure.
But let's talk about how I got here in the first place! A lovely dance academy here in New York needed a last minute ballerina to perform for a show at their beautiful venue in Times Square! Can you believe it? I was delighted, not to mention nervous but so very excited to be given this amazing opportunity to share my passion for dance. I had to fund my trip to New York so the dance academy had asked me if I could perform in this special one off show in return for flight, accommodation, and of course lots and lots of dancing! It was a win-win!
Since arriving on Friday, I've been dancing up a storm, from classes at The School of American Ballet to street performances at Times Square and the most delightful shows on Broadway. The shows are just fabulous – I love the vibrant energy of New York theatre. Even if you've not seen a ballet show, trust me when I say that there is something truly magical and utterly enchanting about seeing live ballet in the bright lights of New York City.
Today's blog is all about my first week exploring this wonderfully exciting city - the energy is simply electrifying! Think bright pink lights twinkling, yellow taxis speeding along busy avenues, and of course, the sound of laughter echoing in the city air. But for me, it’s the beautiful art and the spirit of creative dance that's the real highlight.
My first shopping trip was a real highlight - I managed to find this amazing vintage shop overflowing with amazing pink items – I nearly died of joy at the thought of wearing some of these vintage pink gems while I’m dancing here.
You won’t believe this, I found this gorgeous pink fluffy boa at this tiny little vintage shop on the corner of Fifth Avenue! And I’ve just discovered this little cafe across from the subway station that sells this amazing raspberry and chocolate pink cupcake, I have to take a photo.
Anyway, New York has been such a blast! The underground here (the Metro, I’ve learned) is an amazing experience! It’s always a party of sights and sounds! Just be prepared to get lost once in a while, because with so many different stations and lines, it can get confusing.
I found out that it is quite common for women in New York to wear Pink tutus in public. Apparently it’s a popular way of expressing themselves! It’s so nice to feel like I'm part of something special! I was at Central Park yesterday and some lovely people stopped me and started chatting about the Pink Tutu Revolution – what an awesome feeling it is to know that more and more people are embracing the beauty of pink tutus!
Before we say goodbye, here’s a little tip from a fellow ballerina that I've found super helpful in this busy city! Keep those dancing shoes in a good place, always have your ballet bag handy and be ready for impromptu dances at any given time!
So, that’s all from me, for this week! Catch me on Monday for more Pink Tutu adventures here in New York. Until next week – keep on dancing and never stop being yourself, it’s always worth it!
Yours in Pink, Emma xx
