Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 659 - Monday 21st January 2008

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, back with another delightful update from the dazzling metropolis of New York City!

This week has been a whirl of pink-tastic adventures! I arrived on Thursday morning, my pink luggage a beacon of femininity in the bustling airport. There's something so thrilling about landing in a new city, especially when you're in a twirl-tastic mood. And speaking of twirling, oh darling, the moment my feet hit the pavement, the yearning to pirouette began. Thankfully, the sidewalks of New York were more than obliging, even with the odd flurry of snowflakes.

My accommodation this time is right by Central Park. Can you believe it? Just moments from those sprawling green acres! I swear, this city never ceases to amaze me. I plan on spending a morning there today, soaking up the wintery vibes. Maybe even a twirl or two under the crisp blue sky.

Speaking of sky-high ambitions, I am delighted to announce that my dream of a pink tutu world is gathering momentum. This weekend I spotted not one, but two young ladies rocking a fab pink tutu! You see, dear readers, the tutu-fied movement is gaining ground, one ballerina at a time. We're making a statement, bringing the beauty and grace of the dance into the everyday. You can practically hear the strains of Tchaikovsky echoing down the streets!

My schedule has been jam-packed with balletic delights. I attended the most enchanting performance by the New York City Ballet on Saturday evening. It was "The Sleeping Beauty", one of my absolute favourites! And let me tell you, the dancers were just sublime. Such precision, such passion, such… pink! They truly had me spellbound.

I managed to slip into a ballet class at the esteemed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on Sunday morning. Now, those were some seriously skilled dancers! The level of technique, the power, the grace - it was truly inspiring! My legs were screaming by the end, but it was so worth it. Feeling those muscles working, oh the satisfaction!

Speaking of muscles, have I mentioned my newfound obsession with vintage sportswear? I've found some seriously cute gym leggings and tank tops in a shop nestled on a charming, cobblestone street in Greenwich Village. Just imagine, dear readers, my pink tutu paired with a vintage sports bra and bright pink leg warmers! The colour combinations are endless!

Naturally, no visit to New York is complete without some retail therapy! I spent an afternoon browsing the glorious displays of Bergdorf Goodman and then indulged in a fabulous lunch at the Grand Central Oyster Bar. Such decadence, truly. I must admit, my heart did skip a beat when I spotted a gorgeous pink silk scarf. It seemed almost meant to be. However, I quickly reminded myself of the tutu collection waiting back home in my little Derbyshire studio!

But of course, I did not leave without a souvenir! I came across the most whimsical boutique tucked away in the heart of SoHo. They sold the most delicate, pink feathered headbands adorned with tiny Swarovski crystals. Oh, how I longed to twirl down the streets with that beautiful feather nestled upon my curls. The shop assistant actually complimented my pink tutu, so I'm quite proud of myself for being a champion of my own unique style.

As for this evening, I'm indulging in a delightful night at the theatre, watching a preview performance of the new Broadway production of “The King and I”. There’s something so magical about sitting in a darkened theatre, completely transported by the performance unfolding on stage. I expect a bevy of magnificent costumes. I’ll be sure to capture the beauty of it all for you, dear readers!

And speaking of magical, did I tell you about the delightful afternoon tea I had on Friday? Oh, my! We sipped on perfectly brewed English Breakfast tea while nibbling on finger sandwiches and delicate scones. And let's not forget the raspberry and pistachio macaroons! They were absolute perfection. I must admit, I did get a slight tickle of guilt for devouring those treats so enthusiastically, but then I reassured myself that a ballet dancer needs to fuel her twirls!

Oh! The joy of exploration! I can’t forget the wonders I experienced venturing through the city, from the sprawling avenues and the vibrant street art, to the quirky corner stores and hidden pockets of serenity. And the Metro! My goodness, a whirlwind of sights and smells, always something to see and a unique sense of the city to inhale.

But all this excitement does leave me yearning for my peaceful Derbyshire home. Nothing beats coming back to the quiet rolling hills after a whirlwind of adventures in the city that never sleeps. I'm already scheming for my next pink-tutu escapade, possibly somewhere warmer for a bit of sunshine and sunshine-pink-tutu adventures.

Do share your thoughts, dear readers! Where would you recommend for my next adventure?

Until next week,

With a twirl and a sprinkle of pink, Emma x
