Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Adventures - Post #679

Monday, 9th June 2008

Hello my dearest Tutu Tribe! It’s Emma here, back from another magical weekend in New York City, my beloved second home! As you know, my mantra is "Life is better in pink!" and this city, with its vibrant energy, feels perfectly aligned with that!

This week has been an absolute whirlwind of sequins and sunshine, filled with tutus, tap shoes and theatrical wonder. But before I regale you with my latest adventures, I just want to give a quick shout-out to all the fabulous dancers out there, keeping the world spinning! Remember, each step, each pirouette, is a beautiful expression of joy and artistry. So keep twirling, my darlings!

Subway Surfin’

I must say, a girl can’t complain about the New York City Metro. Sure, it can be a bit of a squeeze at times, especially with a voluminous tulle tutu like mine! But let me tell you, there’s a certain charm to navigating its tunnels, feeling the city pulsate around you. My tip: don’t be shy! Throw on your favourite pink accessory (it could be a hat, gloves, a bag - you name it!) and embrace the quirky charm of the underground. It’s all part of the "New York experience," don't you think?

Broadway Buzz

Now, my darling tutu wearers, this is what it's all about! I finally got to see the revival of "Chicago" at the Ambassador Theatre! I absolutely adore this musical, and it did not disappoint. From the opening number to the final curtain call, it was a spectacularly slick production. The costumes? A dream come true, oozing vintage glamour. They certainly didn’t hold back with the feather boas and sequins - perfection.

New York Ballet Style

No trip to NYC is complete without a visit to the legendary Lincoln Center! I managed to snag tickets for a breathtaking performance by the New York City Ballet. I always feel like a little kid, captivated by their grace and athleticism. It's truly inspiring! And of course, my eyes were glued to the beautiful dancers’ costumes, with their intricate details and delicate craftsmanship. The world of dance really does get to me, in the very best way!

My Fashion Fix

The New York shopping scene has my heart singing! I fell head over heels for the adorable boutiques on Bleecker Street. I managed to score the perfect little pink beret and a sparkly dress that could rival a princess’s ball gown. I think I'm beginning to understand why people get so caught up in the fashion whirlwind. There's magic in finding just the right piece to complete your look, don’t you think?

Taking to the Stage

You know how much I love performing, and it's always exciting to step onto the stage here. I was fortunate to perform in a fantastic ballet street performance on Sunday. Imagine: vibrant music, sunshine on our faces, the crowds roaring! It’s a feeling that’s hard to beat!

The Tutus Continue to Spread!

You’ll never believe this! My pink tutu movement seems to be spreading through the Big Apple. A delightful little girl even came up to me and told me she was going to start wearing her tutu to ballet class! I am absolutely beaming, I must tell you! It just goes to show: a little pink tutu can truly brighten anyone’s day!

My Inspiration

One of the highlights of my week was visiting the iconic dance studio, Steps on Broadway. Seeing where so many dancers have honed their craft was electrifying. It was like the entire studio buzzed with an invisible force, a tangible testament to the enduring power of art.

Tutu Tip: When you’re in a bustling city like New York, it can be easy to get lost in the crowds. I recommend bringing along a brightly coloured tutu as your trusty compass! I guarantee it'll help you stand out and avoid getting lost amongst the masses.

The Takeaway

As I leave New York City this week, my head is filled with glitter, and my heart brimming with memories. This vibrant city always seems to push me beyond my comfort zone, encouraging me to embrace my inner diva!

See you all next week, darling tutus!

Stay fabulous,

Emma
