Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2009-02-23 - Dancing Dreams in the Big Apple (Post #716)

Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! It's Monday, and you know what that means: a brand new blog post from yours truly, Emma, reporting live from the heart of New York City! This week, I'm particularly excited because it marks a significant milestone - a whole year of blogging about all things pink and twirly in the city that never sleeps! I can't believe how quickly time has flown, but I'm absolutely thrilled with how far the blog has come.

To celebrate a year of #PinkTutuBlogNYC, I decided to kick off the week with a visit to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. It's a magical place - truly the epicentre of theatre and dance in the city. Today's show was a spectacular performance by the American Ballet Theatre, featuring the legendary Misty Copeland in "Giselle". Oh, the emotion! The graceful movement! And Misty's incredible athleticism? Truly a sight to behold.

Speaking of amazing dance performances, last week I had the privilege of attending the "Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels" gala. I wore a delightful vintage pink tutu with delicate pearl embellishments, paired with a shimmery ivory blouse and silver stilettos - feeling absolutely like a modern-day fairy.

The event showcased incredible contemporary and ballet dance acts from all over the world. It was like a global celebration of movement, beauty, and the pure joy of expressing oneself through dance. Seeing those passionate dancers on stage, and hearing the thunderous applause afterwards, reminded me why I am so deeply connected to the art form. It truly is the language of the soul.

And while the stage mesmerises me, the world outside of it is equally captivating. Yesterday, I went on a vintage treasure hunt in the heart of the East Village. Let me tell you, the sheer variety of finds was phenomenal! I found a delightful embroidered silk scarf (in my favourite shade of pink, naturally!), a pair of emerald-green vintage earrings that made me feel like an old Hollywood starlet, and a pair of adorable white ankle boots with bows on the side. Oh, the joy of discovering forgotten treasures!

You wouldn't believe what I spotted in my usual shopping haunts around Bloomingdale's this week! A brand new pink tulle skirt from their latest collection that practically sings "twirl me, twirl me"! The details on this skirt are exquisite, with delicate ruffles and a luxurious, flowy silhouette. I just had to snag it, even though my wallet is already starting to whisper its concerns! (Maybe I'll make up for it with another successful performance in Derbyshire later this month...)

One of the absolute joys of being in New York is the vibrant cultural energy pulsating through its streets. Whether it's the incredible performances at the Lincoln Center, the buzz of street performers, the impromptu breakdancing sessions in the parks, or even the charming ballet lessons happening in local studios - there's always a sense of movement, of expression, of creative spirit everywhere I look. I can't help but feel inspired to share my own joy and passion with everyone around me, encouraging them to twirl and embrace their inner ballerina.

On that note, I have to run! I'm heading out to explore the Lower East Side tonight, hoping to discover some new, hidden gems and maybe even catch a free performance in a tiny jazz club tucked away somewhere in the shadows.

As always, I'm looking forward to reading your comments and hearing about your own pink tutu adventures. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram at #PinkTutuBlogNYC, where I'm sharing all my New York fashion finds and twirling moments in real time. Until next Monday, may your days be filled with sunshine and twirls!

Lots of love and happy tutuing,

Emma

P.S. I'm thinking about throwing a #PinkTutuParty in Central Park soon, what do you think? I could have some fun games, twirling lessons, and maybe even a performance by a local ballet troupe! Let me know what you'd like to see in the comments!
