Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #717 Monday 2009-03-02 - New York, New York!

Oh, my darlings! How are you all?

Can you believe it's March already? It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year with a dazzling performance at the Royal Albert Hall, wearing the most fabulous pink tulle creation I've ever designed!

Speaking of dazzling, this week's adventures take us right to the heart of New York City - the city that never sleeps, and certainly doesn't shy away from a bit of pink!

My lovelies, this trip was a dream come true! I've been itching to get back to the Big Apple ever since my last visit last year. I just love the energy, the diversity, and of course, the fabulous fashion scene! It's a place that always leaves me feeling inspired and buzzing with new ideas for my beloved #PinkTutuBlog.

So, let's dive into my whirlwind weekend in the city that never sleeps!

The Metro: Pink-tastic Transportation

As you know, a Pink Tutu Blog post isn't complete without some glamorous fashion moments! As soon as I landed at JFK, I whisked myself off to my favourite hotel in Midtown – it has a lovely balcony, perfect for morning coffee and my daily pink tutu selfies! Of course, a quintessential NYC experience involves a jaunt on the metro! And let me tell you, even the underground holds its own fashionable charm! I donned a light pink tutu, layered it over a fluffy white knit and a gorgeous lilac lace blouse – perfect for navigating the crowded platforms, whilst looking positively princess-like! The city was brimming with so many interesting characters - everyone seemed to be showcasing their own personal style, which really makes NYC such a fabulous melting pot. It was almost a street fashion show in itself!

A Symphony of Dance at The Metropolitan Opera House

My first stop on my New York ballet pilgrimage was the grand, iconic Metropolitan Opera House. Oh, my loves, this place is simply magnificent! It oozes history and charm, and it was absolutely packed with other ballet enthusiasts.

My heart almost burst out of my pink tulle when I realised I was seated in the coveted front row! Imagine my delight when the evening's programme featured the mesmerizing work of Jerome Robbins – a legendary choreographer!

The performance itself was a truly breathtaking symphony of dance! It was a beautifully told story through movements and music. The dancers were unbelievably talented, and their commitment to their craft was truly inspiring. The ballerina who played the lead role was absolutely divine – she moved like a whisper in the wind, every gesture, every turn, so precise and poetic! Watching her reminded me why I am so passionate about ballet, why I dance, why I dream in pink tulle!

Pink Perfection at Bergdorf Goodman

No trip to New York is complete without a luxurious visit to Bergdorf Goodman, and let me tell you, my dears, it did not disappoint! As soon as I walked into the opulent entrance I felt transported to a glamorous world of beautiful fabrics and luxurious designs. This place is a shopper’s dream!

As expected, Bergdorf Goodman boasts an incredible collection of designer clothing – there was simply too much to explore in a single afternoon. I had to focus! The lovely sales associate guided me towards the most exquisite pink ensemble – it was like a vision of fairy tale femininity!

The silken blouse, with its delicate ruffle trim, and the tailored skirt with a tiny but exquisite floral print were absolutely divine. Of course, I had to pair them with a dazzling pair of shimmering, rose-gold pumps!

Shopping, of course, can be a very tiring activity. After all that excitement, I found myself needing a cuppa and a bite to eat – my darling friend, Lily, knows just the spot for afternoon tea in a delightful little tearoom! It was just what I needed! The perfectly pink afternoon tea served on bone china was exquisite, but it wasn't just the treats that delighted me; the charmingly floral interior was absolutely perfect for capturing those must-have photos to share on the blog!

From Pink Tutu to Pink Tights

The following morning, my ballerina instincts kicked in and I couldn't resist taking a class at The School of American Ballet - a renowned institution in the heart of NYC! What a joy! It was a perfect blend of technical precision and passionate movement! I learned a new technique that incorporated delicate jumps and graceful transitions. It was like discovering a hidden language in my own body!

There was an air of absolute magic at The School of American Ballet - it's the same feeling I have whenever I slip on a tutu and feel the energy of the music vibrating through my heart. My loves, believe me, a dance class always makes me feel so incredibly energized! And just for the record, I'll never let go of the notion that wearing pink tights just makes everything look more glamorous!

The Breathtaking Magic of "An Evening of Dance"

After my dance session, I popped into one of New York’s fabulous art deco-style restaurants. I was treated to a divine selection of pastries that left me in a pure state of bliss, especially the petit fours, covered in glistening, delicate pink icing.

In the evening, I headed back to the city centre to watch the breathtaking dance production – “An Evening of Dance” - which featured an eclectic collection of performances, from the soulful elegance of ballet to the explosive energy of modern dance. The sheer variety of talent on stage was truly inspiring, and it solidified my belief that dance is a language that speaks to everyone. I found myself transported, laughing, and sometimes even shedding a tear as I witnessed these beautiful stories unfold. It’s truly amazing to see such diverse cultures and artistic styles come together to create a magical experience.

Time for a Sweet Treat, My Lovelies

My last day in the Big Apple called for some final moments of delightful indulgence. I discovered a quaint little café, tucked away on a quiet side street. There, in the warm glow of soft pink lights and surrounded by stacks of gorgeously illustrated vintage recipe books, I indulged in the most scrumptious blueberry pie! Oh my loves, it was a real taste of home and I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures of this utterly delightful spot to share with all of you.

The Pink Tutu Take-Away

As always, my New York adventure left me brimming with inspiration and a heart full of joy. The Big Apple has truly cemented its place in my heart. This vibrant city reminds me of everything that makes me who I am: my passion for dance, my love for everything pink and girly, and a heart always ready to embrace new and wonderful experiences!

My dears, this is your invitation to step outside your comfort zone and explore all that the world has to offer!
