Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 23rd March 2009: Tutu-ing Around the Big Apple!

Hello my darling readers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog NYC, your weekly dose of all things sparkly, pink, and pirouette-worthy. This week, we're hotfooting it around the Big Apple, and you know what they say: New York, New York - if you can make it there... Well, let's just say I'm making it in style, as always!

This is post number 720, and I can't believe how fast time flies! Just over six years ago, I left the green fields of Derbyshire with a suitcase full of pink tutus and a head full of dreams, and now, here I am, a bona fide tutu-wearing blogger in the city that never sleeps! It's been a whirlwind, filled with beautiful performances, delicious cupcakes, and the odd impromptu tap-dance in the middle of Times Square - it's all just part of the adventure.

This Monday's adventure took me all over New York. As always, I started my morning at my favourite ballet studio on Broadway. I'm not a professional ballerina (yet!) but I love to keep my toes en pointe! There's nothing better than stretching your muscles after a morning of writing and a croissant in the sunshine (a touch of French chic, darling!).

After class, it was time for a serious dose of New York City retail therapy! There was just so much to see: A delightful little boutique tucked away in Soho - oh, the shoes! - and a designer consignment store in Chelsea with everything from couture gowns to antique ballet slippers.

And of course, no day in New York is complete without a subway ride! The 1 train always feels like a magical carpet whisking me across the city. I always catch myself peeking at the reflection of my pink tutu in the window. Sometimes, people even smile, which always brightens my day! Maybe someday, I'll inspire everyone in New York to embrace the pink tutu too... A girl can dream!

The highlight of the day? Well, that would have to be the beautiful performance at the Lincoln Center. It was an absolute masterpiece of movement and expression, with costumes more vibrant than a box of crayons. I even got a chance to chat with the ballerina who played the leading role - such an inspiring woman! Her stories reminded me that hard work, dedication, and a little bit of pink magic can achieve anything!

And before you ask, no, I didn't wear my pink tutu to the ballet performance! While it does make me feel like a little princess, it’s best saved for exploring the city or strolling around Central Park. Tonight, I decided to channel a more sophisticated ballerina-meets-New York City look, in a sleek black cocktail dress, perfectly-matching black ballet flats, and a touch of pink eyeshadow. It’s all about finding the right balance, darling!

And to end this already fabulous day? Dinner at a delightful little Italian restaurant in Little Italy. Pasta, wine, laughter... a truly lovely end to a magical day.

Oh, but one final thing! Don't forget to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com to read all the exciting entries I post on a Monday, so you're never left in the pink without your tutu-filled dose of fashion, dance, and life!

See you all next week, my dear friends!

Pink Tutu Bonus Round: This Week's Must-See Events

Now, for all you lovely ballet lovers out there, here are a few events you absolutely cannot miss in New York this week:

1. Ballet on Broadway! It's been announced that the iconic New York City Ballet is staging a new production of Swan Lake - always a thrilling and timeless performance! If you’re in the city, you must snag some tickets - the costumes and choreography are just divine. It’s on every night at 8 pm.

2. Theatre Troupe Time! If you fancy a change from the ballet scene, take a trip to the Broadway Theatre! They’re staging Wicked - it's such a popular show, be sure to book in advance! I'm telling you, the songs and special effects are truly spectacular. They’ve just launched their matinee performances at 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and their nightly show is at 8pm!

3. Fashion's Calling! Okay, here’s my tip of the week! Get your fashion fix at The New York International Gift Fair, it’s one of the most renowned and stylish shows in the world! And if you are a designer, there’s even a fashion designer showcase. I hear this one has it all!

4. Make it a Date! Head down to Central Park! It’s one of New York’s biggest highlights, no matter what time of year. The cherry blossom trees will soon be in full bloom - I hear that makes the most perfect Instagram moment. And the city’s famed carousel is worth a visit any time, even with its non-existent connection to tutus (but it’s so charming!). The carousel and Central Park Zoo are open every day of the week, no excuses.

So there you have it! This week's roundup of pink tutu-tastic events in New York City. Keep on spinning, darling readers! And as always, don't forget to wear your tutu with pride.

Until next Monday, Emma
