Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #746 Monday 2009-09-21

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where life is a whirlwind of twirls and tulle! It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad correspondent from the heart of New York City, and this week, my darlings, this week has been nothing short of fabulous!

A Week In New York City

You know me, I'm a city girl at heart, but Derbyshire always holds a special place in my soul. Nothing quite compares to the rolling hills and quiet country lanes. However, New York's energy is something I simply cannot resist!

Opening Night Splendor

Last night, my darlings, I experienced true theatre magic! The Metropolitan Opera kicked off its season with a stunning production of "La Bohème." My friend, Amelia, who is a renowned fashionista and equally enamored with all things pink (we actually met at a pink tulle workshop, isn't that adorable?), gifted me the most beautiful bouquet of orchids in shades of lilac and white. I felt like a princess as I sashayed into the grand foyer of the Met. Amelia even convinced me to borrow her fabulous ruby earrings to match my vintage pink lace bolero – talk about the perfect touch!

I simply adore opening nights. The atmosphere is electric. There's a sense of anticipation in the air as the orchestra tunes, and then, the hush as the lights dim. The entire theatre becomes a shared space where dreams and emotions flow effortlessly through the music. There is nothing quite like it.

A Ballet Masterclass

Speaking of dreams, this weekend I found a fabulous new ballet studio nestled in a quiet little courtyard off Broadway. The teacher, Mr. Ivanov, was a former principal dancer with the Bolshoi, and he was absolutely divine! I spent two hours pushing my limits, stretching my muscles, and rediscovering the pure joy of moving with such graceful precision. You know, I believe in the power of dreams. They can take you anywhere, inspire you to learn and grow, and lead you to amazing things. Even if it’s just for a few fleeting hours in a beautifully lit dance studio, a girl’s got to dream!

Metro Magic

I'm absolutely besotted with the New York Metro! I know, I know, many complain about it. The crowds, the delays, the occasional… unfortunate smell. But for me, it's a living, breathing microcosm of New York City. I adore watching people go about their day. The stylish executive rushing to a meeting, the wide-eyed tourist holding a map, the street artist sketching a portrait. Each person has their own story, their own dreams. The Metro truly brings people together from every walk of life.

And don't even get me started on the Metro performers! Last week, I stumbled upon a troupe of breakdancers doing the most incredible routine in Union Square. The energy was absolutely electric. My heart leapt as they spun and twisted with breathtaking athleticism. You could see their pure joy and dedication pouring out of them, and it was absolutely infectious. I swear, one day, I'm going to get up the courage to give a impromptu ballet performance in the middle of Times Square! Just picture it, darling, a pink tutu twirling amidst the yellow cabs and bustling crowds... A moment of pure magic in the midst of urban chaos! Perhaps it's the pink tutu talking, but I think the city deserves a little more beauty.

Shopping, of course!

But what’s a day in New York without some serious retail therapy? My love for all things glamorous knows no bounds. And with all the fantastic boutiques on Fifth Avenue and the stylish vintage shops scattered throughout the city, it's a shopping paradise! I snagged a pair of the most gorgeous scarlet shoes, with the finest red patent leather I've ever seen. And while I’m at it, let's not forget the delightful little shops in Greenwich Village, overflowing with artisanal chocolates, handcrafted candles, and, of course, more pink!

Fashion Finds

For all my pink-loving readers, I have a little secret. I’ve found this exquisite little store in Soho that specialises in bespoke tutu creations. They are simply divine! Think ethereal tulles in the most captivating colours, intricate hand-beaded designs, and every single piece, darling, is a work of art! It was so hard to choose, but I settled on a shimmering lavender tulle tutu with delicate pearl accents. I plan to wear it for a gala at the Lincoln Center this weekend, but you'll have to wait until next week's post to see my full outfit.

The Pink Tutu Vision

As I stroll through the city, taking in its energy, its chaos, and its boundless beauty, I can't help but feel that I am a part of something bigger. Something extraordinary. I’m on a mission, darlings. A mission to spread joy, sparkle, and yes, a little bit of pink to every corner of this magical metropolis! A mission to make the world a more twirly place, one pink tutu at a time! Join me, my dears! Pick a tutu, any tutu! You won’t regret it!

Fashion and Beauty: An Essential Guide for Pink-Tutu Wearers

For all the fashionistas in the audience, here's a little pink-tutu guide for the discerning lady about town:

Essential Accessories

  • A delicate gold necklace with a heart-shaped pendant: Adds a touch of romanticism to any outfit.
  • Sparkling silver or diamond earrings: The perfect finishing touch for a night out on the town.
  • A bold red lipstick: The ultimate power move!
  • A chic clutch: Just the right size for essentials and a little bit of extra twirl space!
  • A floral headband: A touch of whimsy to complement a summer dress.

Pink Tutu Styling Tips

  • The colour pink is universally flattering: Find your shade! Pale pink, bright pink, bubblegum pink… there's a shade for every skin tone and style.
  • Experiment with textures: Silk, velvet, lace, chiffon – the options are endless.
  • Think outside the box! Don't limit yourself to ballet-inspired styles. Pink tutus look amazing with vintage dresses, graphic tees, and even jeans.
  • Don't forget the confidence factor! Wear your pink tutu with pride! You'll shine, darlings.

Next Week's Adventure

Next week, darlings, I’m diving headfirst into the heart of the city that never sleeps! I’ve got a performance in the East Village with a group of street dancers, a shopping spree on Broadway, and I might even find time for a little afternoon tea!

Until next week, remember to twirl, sparkle, and dream big! And always, always, embrace your inner ballerina!

With all my love,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
