Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 12th October 2009 - Post #749 - A City of Dreams & Twirls!

Dearest Tutu-Lovers,

I'm writing this post from my little hotel room, just a stone's throw from Central Park, with the Big Apple glistening outside my window like a giant pink, frosted cupcake. How's that for a glamorous start to the week?

It feels like ages since my last blog post, mainly because my last week was pure, unadulterated chaos in the best possible way. The last show I performed in back in Derbyshire was such a success, and the tips were fantastic, that I could finally treat myself to a little getaway. A few weeks ago, I spotted a "Two-for-One" ticket deal on a West End show here in the city that's been on my "Must-See" list for ages. Well, I booked myself and my bestie a trip to New York City, a whirlwind weekend of fabulous performances and even more fabulous shopping. I can practically hear you gasp, dear readers. What a dream, eh?

Now, as most of you know, I adore the metro, especially the way the clinking noises on the track make me feel like I'm in a fairytale train. I found myself swept up in the energy of this iconic city as I zipped around Manhattan, feeling like the Pink Tutu Princess in a world of possibilities. The smells of the streets, the sounds of honking taxis, the people everywhere in a rush – it's just pure excitement. I felt like I could conquer the world, and I reckon a twirling ballerina in a pink tutu is a sight no one could resist!

The Shows

And let's get on to the real meat of this blog, eh? I know I know, you're dying to hear about the shows! The first performance was the absolutely breathtaking West Side Story musical on Broadway. I'd heard about it for years but never actually seen it, and let me tell you, my dearest readers, this show blew me away! It was an emotional rollercoaster with such raw energy, stunning costumes, and the music was truly enchanting. I felt my own little heart thrumming along with the famous tunes, and a few little tears of joy even slipped out! My favourite parts, of course, were the incredible dance sequences. Talk about fierce energy! It inspired me to head straight for the nearest ballet studio later that evening for some much needed practice. You see, the "Big Apple" isn't just about seeing amazing shows, it's also about making sure your own talent stays sharp, right?

Dancing in The City that Never Sleeps

Speaking of ballet, I simply had to take a ballet class here! I’ve always been curious about the “ballet scene” in New York City and it was a joy to join a little beginner’s class in a small studio downtown. We were taught a basic barre routine and the best part was that no one cared if you were new or not, everyone just came together for the joy of movement. The energy of that room was electric and by the end, even though I was thoroughly knackered, I was filled with this kind of joyful lightness. This city was starting to make sense, a beautiful mix of sophistication and playfulness, with dancing at the heart of it.

A Fashion Paradise

Of course, a trip to New York wouldn't be complete without some serious fashion finds! I found this darling little shop nestled on Fifth Avenue filled with gorgeous clothes and accessories – every item felt like it was tailor-made for a twirling ballerina! There were so many pink pieces! So, I obviously ended up with two lovely new outfits and a few adorable accessories to add some "extra-sparkle" to my daily wardrobe. Oh, I know! It’s tempting to think I can never have too many tutus but I had to resist temptation, especially since I had to lug all my new loot home! My carry-on was bursting at the seams.

Sharing The Pink Tutu Love

As we all know, the Pink Tutu lifestyle is not just about tutus. It’s about joy, it’s about spreading cheer, it’s about celebrating all that is feminine. One day, during our trip, I decided to spread some joy by sporting my brand new sparkly tutu and pink shirt (of course) to the top of the Empire State Building. And what do you know, when I came out of the lift and walked onto the viewing deck – a hush fell over the crowd, I kid you not! They all just looked at me. A little kid ran over, wide-eyed, to get a photo of the Pink Tutu Princess. Moments like this are the real reason I do this, the reason I love dressing up and travelling in this playful style.

A Weekend to Remember

This trip has been pure magic so far! New York has filled me with an infectious enthusiasm and energy, reminding me of how special it is to just live in the moment and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Whether it’s a thrilling performance, a dazzling outfit or a magical view from a rooftop, it’s the little things, the pink tutus, that bring sparkle into our lives.

Now, off I go to find my perfect corner of the city for some quiet contemplation and sketching. It’s hard not to be inspired in a city like New York, a place brimming with life, laughter, and dreams waiting to come true.

Stay tuned, dear readers, for my next update from New York!
