Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Adventures - #757

Monday 7th December 2009

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-loving blogger back with another week of dazzling adventures from the Big Apple! This week, New York City has been whispering promises of sugarplum dreams, shimmering sequins, and an abundance of those little black dresses I simply adore. But before I get lost in the details of my wardrobe discoveries (because yes, shopping was most definitely on the agenda!), let me rewind to the beginning of this exciting week…

As always, I found myself aboard the iconic New York subway. This week, however, I was extra-excited about my trip – because the highlight of my week was waiting for me at the very end of my journey: The Metropolitan Opera.

This beautiful, historic venue has long been a bucket list item for this ballet-loving lass. I've dreamt of dancing in this theatre, but alas, it was my first ever visit as a mere spectator. It truly felt magical! Imagine, darling, being swept up into the elegance and history of the building. Every gilded detail, every carved moulding, every whispered conversation – it felt like I’d been transported to another world! I've certainly experienced some grand opera houses back in England, but this one was truly something special.

As I sank into my plush, velvet seat, I knew it was going to be a special night. I wasn't quite sure what the opera would be - oh, how I love the thrill of a surprise! – but one thing I was certain about: I'd be enjoying it in a particularly wonderful ensemble, featuring, of course, my trusty, pink tutu. This week, I'd decided on a light pink tulle confection, a little something that swished perfectly as I sashayed through the streets and into the opera house, creating a little bit of theatrical magic as I walked. And oh, how much I love the extra touch of flair!

Now, let's be honest – the ballet itself, “Aida”, was truly captivating! While the music was divine and the story quite a whirlwind of romantic intrigue, the staging was a spectacle to behold! My eyes simply couldn't tear away from the gorgeous sets. It's so inspiring to see this artistry up close, it sparks so many creative ideas within me!

I may not be a world-famous opera singer – not that I wouldn't happily take on the role of Tosca one day! - but I am definitely a dreamer and a doer. Every inspiring moment in the Met brings me one step closer to reaching for my own dreams, which brings us nicely back to my own little performance...

Yes, you guessed it! After indulging in a lavish slice of pistachio cake at a quaint little café around the corner – every girl deserves a post-show treat, wouldn't you agree? – I waltzed into a tiny ballet studio, tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. A haven for dancers like myself, where the gentle click-clack of pointe shoes met the soft melody of piano music. I love nothing more than to dance, to move my body with grace and artistry. And the sheer joy I feel, it just makes my heart sing. I couldn't imagine a better way to unwind after a week in the bustling, exciting city.

Now, let's move on to the details that truly matter, darling! I found myself shopping at Bloomingdale's this week, oh my, the delights they held! It was a sensory overload in the best possible way! And let's not forget about my fabulous new pair of fuchsia ballet pumps from a little boutique tucked away in a quaint cobbled street, it’s a secret little haven for ballet-lovers like myself, where they’re selling the most delightful little pair of ballet pumps – you’ll simply love them!

Speaking of fabulous, let's talk about fashion, shall we? The Big Apple doesn’t disappoint! Every corner, every street corner boasts some new trend, some exciting discovery to admire, some new design to spark my creativity. You wouldn’t believe what I spotted a certain celebrity rocking: a daring shade of pink - almost like a fuchsia blush! – a stunning floor-length gown for a charity gala. Now that's a fashion statement I can appreciate. It truly inspired me to reach for a bold colour in my own wardrobe. I do believe a pair of vibrant pink trousers with a delicate pink lace blouse could be just the ticket! Of course, I had to pop into Tiffany's, it simply wouldn't be a New York week without a touch of elegance. You’ve guessed it, darling – I just couldn’t resist a little something pink to go with my new attire, I'm not one to hold back on colour!

The rest of my week, dear reader, was just as full of life and magic as the rest. It was a whirl of colour, creativity and sheer fun. Whether it was me exploring the hidden treasures of Chelsea Market - the food stall I discovered with their selection of homemade, pink-frosted cupcakes was simply delightful! - or joining in on a fun, spontaneous photoshoot in the beautiful streets of the Upper East Side, this city was just waiting to be explored. Oh, I must tell you, I stumbled across a most lovely pink feather boa that I couldn’t resist! - you just never know what you'll find here.

My life in New York, it’s certainly a dance of dreams!

So, remember, darling: never be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina, your inner beauty. Life is a performance, a dance to be embraced with joy and elegance, and every moment a new opportunity to express yourself.

As always, I’m so glad to have you along for the ride. Remember to join me every Monday for a new episode of my NYC adventure, filled with pink tutus, glamorous moments and maybe even a touch of ballet magic!

Until then, stay beautiful, darlings!

Love,

Emma
