Pink Tutu Blog: NYC Monday - 763rd Post - 18th January 2010
Hello, my darling tutu-loving lovelies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where we celebrate the fabulousness that is pink, tutus, and of course, New York City! It's a glorious Monday here in the Big Apple and I'm feeling so inspired after a weekend of dancing, shopping, and soaking up all the magic this city has to offer. As usual, I'm buzzing with excitement to share my adventures with you!
It's so exciting to see so many new faces on my blog, and for those who've been following my pink tutu journey, it's simply wonderful to be sharing this whirlwind with you! As some of you may know, my love for tutus began back in Derbyshire, England, where my Mum used to dress me up in frills and feathers. Little did I know it then, but those early dance steps and that little pink tutu sparked a love for performance that would take me across the globe, to New York City, of all places!
The journey to the City that Never Sleeps has been paved with a lot of passion, a lot of sequins, and definitely a fair share of travelling on the New York Metro. I mean, seriously, what better way to get around than squeezed in amongst the city’s vibrant and stylish energy? I feel my tutu just adds a little bit of magic and glamour to the already bustling streets! Of course, a huge part of funding these trips comes from performing, so there's nothing quite like gracing the stage, all twirling and shimmering, and knowing it’s all paying for the most incredible city breaks imaginable.
Now, where were we…? This weekend was full of exciting happenings. I just had to share my new pink tutus (they're literally the softest and most magical fabric EVER!) with you all. But first, the must-share is my ballet class on Saturday morning! Picture this: sunshine streaming through the studio window, music pumping, and a room full of fellow ballet enthusiasts all getting their 'graceful moves' on. You know I'm not one to miss a good ballet class when I'm in NYC, and let me tell you, these classes are simply top-notch. The instructors are incredibly inspiring, the space is just so energising, and I'm guaranteed to come out feeling a million times better! I’m a bit obsessed with the dance scene in the city, from the iconic shows at the Metropolitan Opera to the brilliant performance art you find down Broadway, and everywhere in between!
This week’s outfit pick: Now, I can’t leave you without showing off my absolute favourite find from the weekend – my new pink tutu! This darling was a piece I stumbled upon during my travels through Greenwich Village (you know, the place that makes you feel like you’re in a storybook! So romantic, isn't it?). This shop, which has to be the most dazzling shop I’ve ever seen, just explodes with pinkness! Honestly, you could lose hours exploring all the little sparkly corners of it. I walked in with one thought in mind: find a new pink tutu to wear in NYC, and wouldn't you know it, the perfect piece was calling my name! This tutu is everything a tutu should be; a dazzling pink, with delicate netting that's a touch more princess than ballerina! Oh, I love it so much!
Pink Power: I feel the most empowered in my pink tutus, so why not take on the city in this little fashion-forward masterpiece, right?! Honestly, this weekend it wasn’t just my tutus that caught the attention of the fashionista-hungry streets. NYC, I've found, is the place to be if you're looking to update your wardrobe with the latest looks! There were all sorts of vintage pieces popping up, especially along SoHo. And you know, for a vintage girl like me, it's practically impossible to resist vintage styles! I must say, my wardrobe is looking seriously chic, thanks to a little bit of digging and bargaining, I’m walking around in clothes that you won’t find anywhere else – true fashion treasures!
Now, back to that show… But this wasn't just a weekend of ballet classes and vintage hunting – oh, no, my lovelies, the excitement doesn't stop there! On Sunday evening, I was lucky enough to have a VIP invite to a magnificent show on Broadway! Oh, Broadway! I'm utterly obsessed with everything about this place - the costumes, the acting, the story telling… It's simply magical! I mean, honestly, Broadway takes "magical" to a whole new level, with every performance oozing elegance and a sheer captivating energy. The story, the costumes, the characters – they were simply unforgettable. As I was settling back in my seat (in my new pink tutu of course!), a feeling of childlike excitement washed over me. There was something so beautiful and pure about seeing an amazing story told in a spectacular way - a real touch of magic that brings a smile to my face every single time.
Back to the little pink things…: But my loves, enough about the performances and shows and shops – the main reason I'm in New York is, well, the tutus, naturally! Just seeing all the amazing dance classes around the city gives me ideas, gives me motivation and reminds me how important tutus are.
It's contagious, you see. That feeling you get, that passion and love for dance – it’s all because of the power of pink and the magic of tutus! The little things, they really make a difference in life – a pink tutu on a street corner in the middle of Manhattan – how wonderfully bizarre! My mission, my dream, is to get everyone in New York City, in the whole world, to wear pink tutus. We’ll bring in pink tutus to the Met, to Central Park, to Broadway, to the opera, even the Statue of Liberty might just need a tutu! I mean, really, isn't this a world that we could all agree on, a world where every single one of us puts on a pink tutu and spins in celebration of our uniqueness?
Pink Tutu dreams... Maybe one day we’ll even see a pink tutu parade around Times Square, where pink will be the most common shade. A tutu extravaganza filled with thousands of dancing individuals, with the most tantalising tunes and fabulous tutus… Now that's a dream worth holding on to!
* Until next week, lovelies, spread the pink, spin those tutus and live your very best pink tutu life! See you soon!*
