Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #765 - Dancing in the City That Never Sleeps!

Hello darlings! It's Monday, and you know what that means... another fabulously pink and sparkly post from your girl Emma, here in the big apple, New York City! I know, I know, you must be thinking 'Emma, you are obsessed with New York City,' but seriously, it just pulls at my tutu strings! The energy here is buzzing, and the fashion... well, let's just say, the city is truly my oyster!

I'm currently sipping a delightful strawberry and passionfruit smoothie (the perfect shade of pink, of course!), tucked away in a quaint cafe overlooking Central Park. Just a stone's throw away, the unmistakable, majestic facade of the Lincoln Center is reminding me why I fell in love with New York in the first place. This week's post is all about dancing in the city, as the iconic building will be hosting the New York City Ballet. And yes, you guessed it, I'll be there! I managed to snag tickets to the very special “The Jewels” programme showcasing George Balanchine's legendary choreography to some seriously show-stopping scores. I can already picture myself taking notes, inspired to work on my pirouettes and fouettés... maybe a bit more of that graceful Balanchine finesse!

A Whirlwind Journey: London to New York

The past few days have been an absolute whirlwind. From my lovely, quaint life in Derbyshire, to hopping on a red-eye flight to London, to a swift dash on the underground to Heathrow, and finally, boarding a massive airplane bound for this fashion capital. As you can imagine, this tutu-loving adventurer kept her packing down to a science! You know, classic black leggings, a selection of chic, yet comfy tops that wouldn't wrinkle too much, my trusty travel ballet shoes (don't judge, you never know!), a smattering of glamorous evening dresses, a stack of trusty ballet tutus for... well, you'll see in just a moment! Oh, and, of course, my lucky pink feather boa... because sometimes you need that extra dash of magic!

The Great Tutu-politan Adventure

Upon arriving at my temporary New York home (an adorably tiny, pink-walled, flower-bedecked studio apartment in the East Village, just bursting with artistic charm), I couldn't resist taking a whirl around my new digs, twirling in a delightful pale pink tulle tutu with delicate rose embroidery. It felt absolutely surreal.

Of course, no visit to New York is complete without a very serious trip to the ballet. Now, you guys know I love ballet. The grace, the athleticism, the storytelling all set to music. It just gets me so incredibly excited! It was such a privilege to catch The Jewels, which features three iconic Balanchine ballets, each inspired by a precious gem - diamonds, emeralds and rubies. Each piece showcased incredible skill and talent, from the speed and athleticism of Emeralds to the vibrant expression and dramatic flair of Rubies, and the absolute elegance and power of Diamonds. My inner tutu-clad ballerina was in complete awe, especially with the intricate footwork and incredible extensions of the New York City Ballet's talented dancers. You know me, I simply had to channel the pink magic of New York and incorporate a subtle touch of colour. My pink sequined beret, matched beautifully with my signature hot pink tutu, just had to add that extra flair to my experience. After all, who needs to match with a black tutu when you've got a vibrant, shimmering pink?

Exploring the City's Rhythm and Dance

In between ballet performances, the energy of New York kept me constantly on the move. I explored the city on the ever-reliable subway, soaking in the diverse characters and unique energy at every station. As much as I love the vibrant energy of the street, a girl needs to recharge. And the city offers some incredible quiet havens, too. The tranquility of Bryant Park with its magnificent fountain, the verdant beauty of Central Park - they provide an opportunity to reflect and truly take it all in. Of course, a girl can't visit New York without exploring some of its fashion offerings. From the independent boutiques on the Lower East Side, to the luxurious designer flagship stores along 5th Avenue, New York truly offers something for every fashionista! I was on the hunt for that perfect shade of pink - not too bright, not too pale, just the perfect hint of pink perfection. It was during this hunt for that perfect pink that I stumbled upon this fabulous little hat shop - imagine, pink velvet, feathers, sequins and pearls galore! I had to have it! My new bright pink velvet fedora, with its contrasting pale pink feathers, completes any outfit. It was made for a pink tutu wearing girl!

The Magical Power of Pink

As I walk around New York, I notice how my signature pink tutu stands out against the urban landscape. You'd be surprised by how many smiles it brings! Some people shout compliments from across the street, others strike up conversations. I even got a couple of proposals for collaboration - from a trendy vintage shop owner to a group of young dancers! It truly proves the transformative power of pink. People can't resist a splash of colour and whimsy! And in this city, filled with people chasing dreams and big ambitions, it's nice to be reminded of the simple joys in life. A little bit of pink tutu magic can change someone's day and I just love being that ray of light in a sea of grey.

Pink Tutu Dreams

Here's to more pink adventures, New York. I have a feeling my journey here has only just begun. My mission is to share the power of the pink tutu with as many people as I can, whether it's on the streets of New York, or on stage in London's West End. Every twirl, every dance, and every smile reminds me how much I love this life, this dance.

Until next week darlings! Emma. xx
