Pink Tutu Blog NYC #770: Tutu-ing Around Manhattan!

Monday 8th March, 2010

Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple, and let me tell you, I've been twirling and twirling until my toes are absolutely aching!

New York City, you glorious, chaotic, energy-filled beast! This week I've been channeling my inner ballerina, pirouetting through the concrete jungle and taking in all the sights and sounds that this vibrant city has to offer.

It all started with a lovely Saturday morning metro ride, all the way down to Battery Park. A little known secret to you guys: The view from Battery Park is absolutely stunning! The Statue of Liberty stands so proudly in the distance, looking every bit as majestic as she did back in 1886. But the most impressive thing about this particular journey? Well, let’s just say my fabulous, frilly, pink tutu managed to steal the show! Everyone just had to stop and admire my delicate creation, with its sparkly sequins and gorgeous tulle layers. Who knew my little pink tutu could make such a big impact?

After soaking in the history and charm of the park, it was time to head to the Theatre District. The air crackles with energy in this part of the city, and even a fellow dancer like myself can feel the vibrant pulse of the theatre world! You’re literally walking on Broadway, stepping onto the stage of countless dreams and aspirations, surrounded by those big, bright theatre marquees and all the dazzling lights. It truly was a sensory overload!

Now, you guys know I'm a big fan of ballet, so the highlight of my weekend was undoubtedly a stunning performance at the New York City Ballet. The program featured a mix of old favourites and fresh new creations, and the entire audience was captivated by the incredible talent on stage. You could feel the raw passion, the intricate choreography, the pure grace of every movement, all interwoven into this tapestry of ballet magic.

Of course, no trip to New York City would be complete without a spot of shopping. And let me tell you, this city truly is a retail paradise! Every store imaginable, all in one glorious kaleidoscope of consumerist joy! From the high-end designers on Fifth Avenue to the trendy boutiques in SoHo, it’s like stepping into a never-ending, ever-shifting landscape of fashion trends. It took a good dose of self-discipline (and maybe a cheeky trip to the pink aisle of Bloomingdale's!) to keep my purse strings in check!

Speaking of self-discipline, the pièce de résistance of my shopping adventure was a gorgeous new pink ballet outfit. It's a pale blush pink, a colour so soft and ethereal it's practically whispering secrets to your soul! Imagine a swirling, billowing skirt, delicate pink ribbon tying it together, and a simple, elegant leotard with a stunning jeweled trim. And let's not forget the little detail that brings this outfit to life: the iconic tutu. My latest pink creation is simply breathtaking – a delicate cascade of pale pink tulle that practically begs to be twirled! I think it might just be the most gorgeous piece of attire I’ve ever owned.

One of my favourite things to do in New York City is take a stroll down Fifth Avenue. I'm talking window shopping, of course! It’s a glorious window into a world of haute couture. The grand display of every imaginable label, the meticulously constructed mannequins frozen in a perpetual state of effortless elegance, and all the glittering storefronts. I always love soaking in the grandeur, and the fact that even the window displays are breathtaking! It's pure art, in my humble opinion.

Speaking of art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art deserves a whole blog post on its own! A trip to this magnificent institution is an essential New York experience. From ancient Egyptian artefacts to Impressionist masterpieces, this museum truly is a treasure trove of history, culture, and artistic expression. And guess who managed to fit a quick pirouette in front of the grand Egyptian Hall? I know, I know, a little cheeky! But who wouldn’t seize the opportunity for a spontaneous pirouette surrounded by ancient Egyptian majesty?

By Sunday evening, I was pretty exhausted from all the excitement. So I thought what better way to relax than to head down to the vibrant heart of Times Square? That’s right, I joined the hustle and bustle, taking it all in, with my signature pink tutu of course. There’s something quite special about this dazzling, iconic intersection. It's an explosion of light and energy, an overwhelming spectacle that's impossible not to be drawn into. I just felt the joy in the air!

Then it was back to my little hotel room to reflect on the weekend. What a fabulous time! It seems like there’s a new surprise waiting around every corner in New York City. There are the towering skyscrapers and iconic yellow cabs. The energy is electric. But I'll let you in on a little secret: it's not just the sights and sounds that make New York so special. It’s the feeling of being a part of something big, something exciting, something truly inspiring.

To quote one of my favourite poets, "the greatest city in the world, not the largest but the grandest." It’s just full of incredible opportunities, the potential for so many stories and journeys, both big and small. It truly does feel like the center of the world sometimes!

So there you have it, another wonderful weekend in New York City, from the majestic Statue of Liberty to the exhilarating chaos of Times Square. New York has truly become a second home to me.

Now, back to Derbyshire and to my beautiful ballet classes. I am really looking forward to all those new exciting moves, but I am sure, at some point, the next big city is calling out to me!

But until then, let's remember why we’re here: To spread the love of tutus and pink! And to remind everyone: there's no place on earth like the Big Apple, where you can find yourself surrounded by glittering lights, exciting opportunities, and a sense of endless possibility!

Stay stylish, stay glamorous, and stay twirling!

Love,

Emma
