Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 787

Monday 5th July 2010

Oh, darlings! How absolutely delightful it is to be back in the city that never sleeps, my dear, vibrant New York! It's Monday morning, the sun is shining gloriously, and you know what that means? Time for a brand new Pink Tutu Blog post! This week's adventure has been an absolute whirlwind of tulle, tutus, and top-notch theatre - truly, the very essence of everything I adore.

But first, a little bit about the journey. As you all know, I, Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, am a true child of Derbyshire. But ever since I traded my countryside life for the bright lights and boundless opportunities of New York City, there's been no stopping me! And of course, I travel in style, always embracing the metro with a flourish - what better way to explore the heart of the Big Apple?

Speaking of exploring, my week started with a ballet performance that truly captivated my soul. It was held at the exquisite Brooklyn Academy of Music, where I felt every fibre of my being thrum with the magic of dance. I'm simply mesmerised by the way dancers convey emotions, stories, and dreams through movement; it's a truly exquisite form of expression, isn't it?

And of course, I had to document this enchanting experience with my trusty camera. The pictures will be up on the blog shortly, so keep an eye out for them! My favourite part was a particular solo by a young, talented ballerina. Her strength and grace, the way her movements flowed effortlessly - it was simply breathtaking! I can't wait to watch her career bloom.

After the ballet, I treated myself to a delicious slice of cherry pie at a charming cafe tucked away in a quiet Brooklyn alleyway. New York's diverse culinary scene truly is one of its best treasures, and the combination of sweet cherry filling and flakey pastry had my heart doing little twirls of its own!

The next day, I woke up feeling rejuvenated, and decided to take my usual Monday morning ballet class at the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the heart of the city. I simply love that feeling of camaraderie and shared passion for dance that fills the studio; everyone from experienced dancers to beginners gather to move, to breathe, to embrace the beautiful discipline and art form.

Following the class, my friend Amelia (a fellow ballerina enthusiast and fabulous pink tutu wearer - she loves a good sparkly tutu, too!) and I treated ourselves to some retail therapy in the vibrant SoHo district. Oh my, it's simply bursting with beautiful stores and incredible fashion!

We picked out some fabulous new ballet shoes โ€“ they're going to look divine on stage - and of course, a handful of delightfully pink, tulle-filled delights that will undoubtedly find their way onto the blog very soon! Amelia found the most gorgeous pink sequin top and, of course, I bought a pair of pink, glittery ballet flats - perfect for those post-ballet-class coffee runs with friends.

As the day went on, the excitement simply continued to bubble! Amelia and I attended a captivating theatre performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', and let me tell you, it was magical! The sheer creativity of the set design and the phenomenal talent of the actors simply swept me away. The humour was fantastic, and the ending - a truly satisfying fairy-tale romance.

To complete the fairytale experience, we tucked into a heavenly picnic dinner in Central Park. The green expanse under a fading evening sky, the fragrant whiff of blooming flowers - it was like stepping into a scene straight out of Shakespeare's play!

But for all its enchantment, my week wouldn't be complete without a spot of street performance indulgence. I found myself on a bustling sidewalk in the East Village, utterly captivated by a talented group of street musicians and dancers. Their rhythm, the sheer energy and passion of their performances was truly captivating.

And that, my dears, brings us right up to date! It's been a whirlwind of beautiful ballet performances, enchanting theatre, and heart-stopping street dance performances. But it's not just the city that gets my creative juices flowing. Here in New York City, you're just never far from an adventure. The magic of the Big Apple is a feeling that gets inside your bones and makes you believe anything is possible.

This week's pink tutu ensemble? A classic blush pink tutu with a silky ribbon bow, a delicate floral print blouse, a delicate gold chain necklace with a pearl pendant, and pink ballet shoes - simple yet chic.

And now, it's time for me to put my feet up, enjoy a delicious cup of chamomile tea, and let my mind wander as I plan my next exciting New York adventure. Remember, darlings, always follow your dreams, dance with all your heart, and wear your pink tutus proudly!

I'll be back next Monday, filled with more tales of tutus, dancing, and all things delightful. Until then, keep twirling!

Love,

Emma
