#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Post 788: New York City Dreams in Pink!

Monday 12th July 2010

Hello, my lovelies! Itā€™s Emma here, your #PinkTutuBlogNYC girl, reporting live from the Big Apple! It's hard to believe another week has whizzed by, filled with all sorts of exciting adventures that I canā€™t wait to tell you about! But first, letā€™s raise a glass of pink lemonade to all my faithful readers who keep coming back for more! You know how much I adore your comments and sharing all my NYC adventures with you, whether it's the magical feeling of a live Broadway show or the thrill of finding the perfect pink tutu in a vintage store.

Today, I'm wearing my "lucky" pink tutu, a delicate silk number with tiny pearl accents, which just screams "New York City!" It's paired with a sassy red polka-dot blouse and my trusty patent leather pumps. A girlā€™s gotta look fabulous while exploring the city, right? And you never know when a impromptu photo shoot with a charming street performer will come your way. Speaking of street performances, oh my! Yesterday, I stumbled upon a vibrant salsa dance group in Central Park, their movements so energetic, it made my heart skip a beat. Talk about a dose of pure joy! I couldn't help but join in with a few twirls ā€“ a little pink tutu magic never goes amiss!

Last week was an absolute whirlwind! I had the most amazing time catching two captivating performances that left me completely spellbound. Firstly, on Wednesday, I got to see the breathtaking "Romeo and Juliet" at the Metropolitan Opera House. It was my first experience with opera, and let me tell you, the powerful vocals and elaborate sets had me hooked! And the emotional storytelling? Well, it just tugged at my heartstrings. I couldnā€™t help but think of all the little dancers back in Derbyshire watching in awe. This experience was truly something special.

But thatā€™s not all! Friday night, I had a fabulous night at a fabulous new show on Broadway - the sensational "Jersey Boys". I simply can't say enough about this show ā€“ it's full of such charm and captivating musical talent, leaving you wanting more. The entire production had me tap-tapping my toes and singing along! Itā€™s definitely a must-see if youā€™re ever in the city.

Of course, I couldn't go a week without adding some serious retail therapy to my schedule! Thereā€™s something truly exciting about being lost in a beautiful fashion labyrinth. Saturday saw me hitting up my favourite spot, Bloomingdaleā€™s, on Fifth Avenue. They're really embracing pink this season ā€“ you should have seen the vibrant displays, the clothes just screaming for me to take them home! Sadly, my budget doesn't always agree with my heartā€™s desires, but that doesnā€™t stop a girl from dreaming!

My New York exploration hasn't just been about shows and shopping; itā€™s about discovering the beauty of this city and embracing its unique rhythm. And what better way to explore than via the iconic New York subway! It's like a whole world down there! From the colourful graffiti murals on the station walls to the countless faces, stories, and destinations rushing by, every journey is an adventure in itself.

The other day, I had a most delightful chat with a lady at the subway station. We were both waiting for the same train, and she saw me, in all my pink tutu glory, reading my favourite ballerina magazine. I couldn't resist pulling out my camera and taking a selfie, with a big grin, for all to see. The woman was delighted, telling me that my "pink tutu was the best she had seen on the whole subway!" I always love those little moments when I can share a smile and spread the pink tutu joy!

My next adventure? It involves a trip to the ballet studio! Iā€™m itching to finally try a class here in the city ā€“ New York ballet classes, here I come! Iā€™m already planning my outfit, naturally, itā€™s a pink tutu ensemble ā€“ one with a little more pizazz than usual, since it's got to be worthy of New York, you see. Iā€™m thinking feathers and sequins ā€“ because, why not?

Stay tuned, my loves! Iā€™ll be filling you in on all my ballet class antics next week, including tips for mastering that perfect pliĆ©, secrets of New Yorkā€™s dance world, and how to add some Parisian chic to your ballet bag! But before I go, a little bit of ā€œpink tutu inspirationā€ from the heart of the city!

Pink Tutu Tips for New York City:

  1. Go bold: Remember, New York City embraces individuality, so donā€™t be afraid to express your inner pink tutu princess!
  2. Embrace the subway: Itā€™s more than just transport, itā€™s an opportunity for people watching and finding your own story within the city. And if you feel bold, I recommend sharing a smile and maybe even a spin in your pink tutu!
  3. Get lost in a book: My favourite way to de-stress in the Big Apple? Get comfortable in a little cafe with a captivating story. Itā€™s amazing how stories can transport you away from the hustle and bustle, and itā€™s a great way to recharge your pink tutu energy!
  4. Indulge in delicious eats: New York City offers culinary adventures on every corner. Try a slice of that world-famous New York pizza (youā€™ve got to get it!), grab a hotdog on the street (donā€™t worry, itā€™s always been delicious!), and explore the amazing diversity of ethnic food around town. (Tip: Look for colourful and fragrant cafes, that usually means amazing food!)
  5. Seek out those unexpected discoveries: New York City isn't all about famous landmarks and shiny towers. Look for hidden gardens, colourful art on the street corners, and tiny bookshops with shelves bursting with stories. Each little corner holds a hidden surprise, and thatā€™s the beauty of New York.

And remember, darling, "a little pink tutu magic goes a long way!" Keep sharing those pink tutu dreams and join me next week for more exciting New York City adventures. Until then, Iā€™m off to grab a hot pretzel and embrace another day in the most wonderful city on earth!

Much love,

Emma
