#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Monday 2010-10-18: Dancing through the Big Apple

Hello darlings!

It’s Emma here, bringing you another week of pink tutu-filled fun from the most fabulous city on Earth – New York, New York! I can hardly believe this is already blog post number 802! My life in the city is flying by – I feel like I'm experiencing a lifetime's worth of magic in just a few short years. This week, I'm buzzing about a spectacular performance at Lincoln Center, a whimsical afternoon shopping in the Meatpacking District, and the sheer joy of whizzing through the city on the subway. But first, let me share my outfit for the day.

Today's Tutu: A Touch of Gotham Glamour

My dear readers, I've always been a firm believer that even the most iconic places on Earth can be touched by a sprinkle of tutu magic. And what could be more iconic than the New York skyline? For today's adventures, I opted for a blush-pink tulle tutu – oh so light and floaty – layered over a sleek, black fitted top, creating a modern yet graceful look. A touch of whimsy mixed with a dash of New York grit – what's not to love?

A Spectacular Night at the Ballet: "Swan Lake" in All its Glory

Last night, my heart soared with the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. It was an absolutely breathtaking performance of "Swan Lake," a timeless classic, that had me entranced from start to finish. The dancers, with their ethereal movements, made me feel as though I'd stepped into a fairytale. The costumes – the intricate tutus of the swans, the opulent gowns of the queen – were so beautiful they made me feel like a child again, mesmerized by the magic of the theatre. And then there was the music! Tchaikovsky's iconic score swept me away on a wave of emotion, tears welling up as the music soared. It was pure, unadulterated beauty.

And how lovely to catch up with a dear friend after the show! Emily, a fellow ballet enthusiast and fashion blogger (she writes for "Fashion on Pointe"), joined me for a post-performance glass of champagne and a good old gossip. You can imagine how exciting it was to hear about the new designs she’s working on! But that’s another blog post for another day.

A Whimsical Trip to the Meatpacking District: Shopping and Sugar Rush

The weather today is crisp and sunny, and I’ve embraced the city’s lively energy for a morning of exploring the Meatpacking District. It's a vibrant place, with vintage shops, chic boutiques, and delicious cafes on every corner. This time, it wasn’t all about tutus - although I did discover a divine pink fascinator for a future theatre outing! Today was a day for a dose of high street style – you wouldn’t believe the gorgeous finds I nabbed for my wardrobe!

I am obsessed with this little vintage store nestled on the side street, filled to the brim with chic dresses, shoes, and statement jewellery. This vintage ruby red leather jacket (picture Audrey Hepburn in a modern twist) has already become my new favourite. A pop of colour for my ever-expanding collection of statement pieces, and oh so chic for this city!

Afterwards, it wouldn’t be a proper afternoon in New York without a delightful pit stop at one of my favourite local bakeries. Their cupcakes are legendary - all the way from the fluffy vanilla sponge to the thick swirls of decadent frosting. You won't find a tastier cupcake in the city! (Trust me, I’ve tried them all!)

Subway Serenade: My Pink Tutu Conquers the New York Metro

For a little afternoon adventure, I decided to take the subway to SoHo – one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the city. This district feels so full of life, energy, and artistry. It's just oozing creativity and passion, the perfect playground for a girly afternoon! I love whizzing around on the subway, taking in all the different sights and sounds, it always brings back such wonderful memories of my first year here. Of course, there were curious glances my way, as I squeezed onto the bustling train, my pink tutu catching the light, but honestly? They just added to the experience! It felt like everyone was transported back to their own fairytale – albeit with a little more grunge and a little less sparkle.

Sharing My Love for Pink Tutus with the World: #SpreadtheTutuLove

Remember my mission, my darlings: To get everyone in the world wearing a pink tutu. Each week, I strive to share the magic of pink tutus with my lovely readers. The city may be filled with vibrant colours, but it’s still a little grey sometimes. I want to share the pure joy and happiness of pink tutus. Whether you're twirling through Central Park or strutting your stuff on a New York City street corner, embrace your inner ballerina, put on a pink tutu and watch the world take notice.

Until next Monday, stay stylish and keep twirling! Don't forget to follow me on Instagram (@PinkTutuBlogger) for daily updates.

Lots of love and tutu kisses,

Emma xx
