Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 828 - Monday, 18th April, 2011 - Dancing in the Big Apple!

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, back from another whirlwind weekend in the City that Never Sleeps, and oh my goodness, what a weekend it was! This week, we're talking Broadway shows, bustling city streets, and a ballet performance that just took my breath away. So grab your pink tutus, put on your fanciest shoes, and join me on another fabulous journey, right here on PinkTutu.com!

A Whirlwind Journey to NYC

As usual, my journey to NYC was a fabulously fun adventure. Leaving the Derbyshire countryside behind, I boarded a packed train, already daydreaming about the amazing shows, the sparkling lights, and the delicious smells of New York City. I love the metro, especially when it's decked out with vintage adverts and old-school signage. Such a romantic feel for a city so energetic and forward-thinking. It feels like the metro tunnels are keeping time with the pulse of the city itself. My travel companions were the usual – a well-loved book, a pink polka-dotted tote bag (you know, the one that's always getting compliments!), and my trusty pink tutu. This time, however, I decided to spice things up with a pink and black polka-dot beret - so sophisticated!

Stepping Onto the Broadway Stage (Well, Almost!)

Landing in the city was like stepping onto a stage. The energy just hit me - that unmistakable buzz, the endless avenues full of vibrant people, the honking taxis, the vibrant street musicians. Just fabulous! This week's must-see show was "Anything Goes," which took me back to the golden age of glamour with a brilliant performance by Sutton Foster. I don't think my grin could have been wider all weekend! Afterwards, I indulged in the city’s magical after-theatre scene - a vibrant, sparkly oasis full of twinkling lights and exciting conversations.

Taking Flight at the New York City Ballet

Of course, my time in NYC wouldn’t be complete without seeing some stunning ballet! I spent a gloriously dreamy evening at Lincoln Center, experiencing the grace and power of the New York City Ballet. There is something truly magical about a ballet performance. Every movement is so perfectly timed and crafted; every nuance expresses a hidden emotion; every twirl, a captivating story. This time, they performed the classic “Swan Lake,” and let me tell you, it was simply exquisite. Every ballerina's white tulle tutus and feather headdresses spun a visual story that held my attention the entire performance. The graceful swan's elegant movements contrasted perfectly with the fierce black swan, a story of love, betrayal, and ultimately, self-sacrifice, brilliantly brought to life on the stage. It really was the most wonderful evening!

NYC Through Pink-Tinted Glasses

During my NYC stay, I love discovering hidden treasures amongst the towering skyscrapers and bustling streets. There's this incredible vintage shop, tucked away on a side street in Greenwich Village. It’s an absolute haven for fashion enthusiasts like myself - vintage dresses, dazzling shoes, and every colour of the rainbow (naturally, with an emphasis on pink!). They even had the most gorgeous hand-sewn pink tutu, complete with a sprinkle of glitter. You can bet I couldn’t resist taking it for a spin in the fitting room - it felt like I had stepped right onto a stage.

And, no visit to NYC would be complete without a stroll through Central Park. Imagine strolling through the greenery, bathed in warm sunlight, with a warm breeze blowing through my hair. Then, as if on cue, a cute little puppy bounded towards me! We ended up playing fetch with a big red ball, all the while the sounds of laughter and joy echoed around the park. I swear, it was the most beautiful sight.

Pink Tutu Fashion Finds

While the shops of Manhattan always offer endless opportunities to update my wardrobe, I love discovering unique pieces in less obvious places. This week, I came across the cutest little independent shop called “Lily’s Threads” on the Lower East Side. It was a small, quirky little haven for vintage fashion finds, each item thoughtfully chosen with care. I found a stunning vintage pink satin bolero with pearl buttons, the perfect finishing touch for a formal ballet evening look. For casual days, I found a vintage T-shirt emblazoned with the quote “I danced my way through it,” a perfect nod to my love for dance!

What I love about my Pink Tutu Blog is connecting with others, inspiring others to dance their way through life with style, confidence, and most importantly, a sprinkle of pink magic! Until next week, darlings, remember - Life is a beautiful stage, and we’re all meant to dance upon it with a sparkle in our eyes and a song in our hearts.

Keep it fabulous, and keep it pink!

Lots of love,

Emma xoxo
