Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #829 - A Week in the Big Apple! 🩰

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu aficionado, bringing you another fabulous week in the magical metropolis that is New York City! As you know, this city never sleeps, and neither do I - I've got too much to see, do, and most importantly, wear! 😉

This week has been a whirl of pink, pirouettes, and… oh, how I love the way "pirouettes" looks in print… just a little bit of whimsy for you all! Speaking of which, my darling readers, have you picked up your new tutu yet? I mean, what's a Monday without a dash of pink twirl, right?

Right now, I'm snuggled up in my favourite New York café, watching the hustle and bustle of the city. The rain is gently tapping on the window, creating that quintessential NYC atmosphere that makes you feel like anything is possible. I'm just about to tuck into a delicious slice of chocolate cake – what else could be better after a fabulous day exploring the city?!

But before we get to the delectable treats, let's rewind a little…

Monday - It's a tutu kind of day

As always, my Monday started with a burst of ballet. I had a delightful class at the wonderful "Stepping Out" studios in Greenwich Village, where the sunshine streams in through the large windows – a truly inspiring setting for learning the art of beautiful movement. I donned my favourite pink tutu for the occasion, of course! It just seems to give me that extra twirl, you know? It’s like it puts a pep in my step, or maybe it's the copious amounts of caffeine! But then again, who could resist a little dose of sunshine and sugar before a morning class?

The class itself was simply delightful, full of energy and encouragement. We were working on our fouettes, and I was honestly a bit nervous – I have always found those tricky – but with some good pointers and a sprinkle of pixie dust (or maybe it was the ballet barre!), I managed to get a few perfect rotations in. That feeling of finally mastering something that you've struggled with is honestly one of the best things about ballet. It really is about persistence, and enjoying the journey, and what better journey than the journey of ballet? It’s truly magic.

Afterwards, it was time for the crème de la crème - a delightful afternoon at Bloomingdale’s! Shopping therapy is just what the doctor ordered. There is just something about that luxurious, grand atmosphere. I have a particular fondness for their shoe department – the heels are simply exquisite! And it wouldn't be a day of shopping in New York without treating myself to a little something pink. This week, it was a gorgeous pastel pink cashmere cardigan – the perfect layering piece for the upcoming cooler weather.

Tuesday - Exploring Broadway

Tuesday, like most days in the Big Apple, started with a touch of adventure. This time, I found myself deep in the heart of the theatre district, gazing at the famous billboards on the street. If there’s one thing I love in New York, it's the sheer exuberance of Broadway. It's like walking through a living, breathing dreamscape of lights and colour. The energy, the stories, the emotions... everything about Broadway draws me in.

So, naturally, what’s the only thing more wonderful than admiring the billboards for Broadway's shows? Actually attending one! And you've guessed it, I donned my favourite pink tutu, obviously! This time, I saw “Moulin Rouge!” – a truly spectacular experience with stunning costumes, exhilarating music and exceptional dance routines. The dancing was breathtaking - I was mesmerized by the graceful movements, the precise footwork, and the sheer energy radiating from each and every performer. The stage seemed to shimmer with magic, transporting me to another world altogether.

Wednesday – Time for Ballet

Oh, I am absolutely delighted to be back on stage! For you, my lovelies, don’t just live the dream, create it! That’s what I do when I dance – I let myself become immersed in the world of music and movement, expressing my creativity in ways words could never manage!

Tonight was my performance with the New York City Ballet ensemble. There is just something about taking centre stage in front of an eager audience, and as the curtain rises and the spotlight hits you, the rush is absolutely exhilarating. The costumes were divine, with a flowing pink skirt – yes, pink, just for my gorgeous followers! The choreography was wonderfully intricate, requiring me to truly dive deep into my technique. But all in a good day’s work!

I couldn't help but think about my grandmother, who was an amazing dancer in her youth – watching her performance sparked a love of dance that lives within me to this day. I always wish she was here to witness all of these wonderful performances!

Thursday - Food, Friends and Fashion

There is just something about exploring New York City's unique culinary scene - its food markets are buzzing with energy. You've got artisanal cheese stalls, vibrant spice shops, vendors selling fresh produce, and street vendors with tantalising treats! You honestly get lost in the cacophony of sights, smells, and flavours – an absolutely sensational experience! The one thing that really ties together a fantastic lunch? More pink! In honour of this amazing city, I opted for a delicious pink lemonade, the perfect sweet refreshment!

Later that evening, I was delighted to catch up with my friend Sarah, a fellow fashion blogger, for a fabulous rooftop party at The Met Rooftop Bar – a haven for glamorous fashionistas. We chatted, giggled, and of course, posed for the most incredible photos for my blog! New York is absolutely brimming with fantastic opportunities to wear all those outfits you've been longing to show off! I donned my latest creation: a chic, black, and white striped, ballerina-inspired midi dress and paired it with a dainty, pearl-white headband – just the perfect combination of sophisticated and whimsical.

Friday - Exploring Museums and Markets

On Fridays, I find myself embracing New York’s unique vibe by immersing myself in a world of art and creativity! One of my favourite ways to explore a city’s soul is through its art galleries and museums – an exciting treasure hunt where you can encounter all sorts of different ways of thinking, different aesthetics and different cultures.

My visit to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where I always enjoy exploring the Costume Institute exhibition, was truly unforgettable. The exhibit this month was amazing, featuring an exploration of avant-garde fashion from around the globe, with such daring styles. What else is a Pink Tutu Blog post without a dash of extra? Of course, I made sure to strike a pose with a couple of my favourite pieces! You can find those photos, naturally on my Instagram @PinkTutuNYC . Be sure to check them out!

That evening, it was all about embracing the vibrant street market scene - a visual and aromatic extravaganza with a captivating, chaotic charm that I honestly never tire of. The street market I went to was filled with unique treasures – handmade jewellery, vintage clothing, handcrafted artwork, and everything in between. And then there are the food stalls with aromas that lure you in! I found a wonderful artisan baker and picked up a delicious gluten-free cinnamon roll. I mean, who could resist those cinnamon-y aromas, especially after a day of exploring art and museums?

Saturday - Broadway Bound

Saturday morning dawned with the excitement of a new theatre production. It was time to catch the spectacular “Wicked,” – what's a girl trip to New York City without an evening of spectacular music and choreography?

I was a bit hesitant about donning my tutu this time. I didn’t want to overshadow the amazing work on stage – the talented performers have put so much effort into this, it felt almost disrespectful to take away the spotlight with my outfit, but what would a Pink Tutu Blog post be without, well, a tutu?

This time, I decided to keep it more low-key. I paired my beloved tulle with a sleek, black maxi-dress and a fitted, cream-coloured blazer for a hint of sophistication, whilst, of course, making sure that every little detail remained whimsical, my personal hallmark!

The entire show was truly magical. The costumes, the staging, the voices, and the incredible choreography blew me away! It left me absolutely thrilled with a touch of inspiration, which as a ballerina, I’m always on the lookout for!

Sunday – Time to Relax

After all that whirlwind excitement, I felt it was time for a well-deserved dose of self-care. So, I headed for the luxurious spa at the Four Seasons Hotel, an oasis of tranquility amidst the urban bustle of Manhattan. My afternoon was a symphony of pampering – with a full body massage, a facial, and some soothing tea. That wonderful tingling sensation from a hot stone massage, a soft fluffy towel and the aromas from all the scented candles… there is nothing better after a wonderful weekend exploring all that New York City has to offer!

Reflecting on the week

Well, my darling readers, another whirlwind week in the city that never sleeps has come to an end!

So, what’s my takeaway this week? It’s simple - be true to yourself. Wear the pink tutu. It's okay to be a little bit whimsical. Embrace your dreams, never give up, and remember - everyone deserves a dash of pink magic! I mean, that's what makes life interesting!

Join me next Monday for more NYC adventures. Until then, stay pink, stay twirling, and stay fabulous!

XOXO Emma 💕
