#PinkTutuBlogNYC - Monday 2011-10-24: Dancing in the Big Apple (Post #855)
Hello, my darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad travel blogger, and this week, I'm whisked away to the magical metropolis of New York City! It’s a dream come true for any ballerina, especially one with a penchant for pink and a fondness for fabulous fashion! This city truly is a haven for sartorial splendour, with chic boutiques nestled amidst glittering skyscrapers.
Now, you know me – I’m a woman of routine. Every Monday, I bring you a new adventure, straight from my #PinkTutuBlogNYC, and I wouldn't dream of breaking tradition, even while soaring through the city that never sleeps!
The whirlwind of activity began the moment I stepped off the plane. The air hummed with energy, the streets bustled with life, and a vibe that was utterly intoxicating! And you know what's the best way to get to grips with a new city? A glorious, tutu-tastic journey on the New York subway, of course! I donned my blush pink tulle creation, the very one that had travelled all the way from my Derbyshire roots, and I was off!
I had my trusty map – my trusty pink map, naturally – and the familiar thrumming of the underground brought a comforting familiarity, even in this new environment. This trip, you see, was inspired by a most intriguing email I received. A little birdie told me that on the 24th of October, the famed Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts would host a "Pink Tutu Day," celebrating the colour that has brought joy to so many! It was destiny, my dears, I simply had to be there!
The sheer volume of people in the city is enough to make anyone a little starstruck, but it didn't dampen my spirits. The vibrant streets were a melting pot of styles, from the chic and sleek to the utterly offbeat, and I found myself utterly inspired! I had a mission – I had to see as many shows, gallop into as many stores, and of course, find the very best pink tutu to grace this incredible occasion!
But before I let the fashion fever fully take over, a true ballerina always has her priorities, right? I made my way straight to the heart of Lincoln Center, ready to experience a delightful evening of dance.
The performance I attended that evening was breathtaking – “Giselle,” by the world-renowned New York City Ballet. It's no exaggeration to say I was absolutely spellbound! The artistry, the emotion, the intricate choreography... it simply took my breath away! I watched in awe as these talented dancers transported us to a world of dreams and beauty, their graceful movements and perfect poise, a reminder of the power of the human body.
Afterwards, with a smile still etched upon my face, I treated myself to a light dinner at the famous Tavern on the Green, the iconic restaurant known for its delectable fare and picturesque setting.
The evening ended with a trip to a truly unique store I found near Central Park: "The Pink Elephant Boutique". This darling little haven was brimming with everything pink imaginable – pink dresses, pink shoes, pink hats, even pink polka-dot socks! I must admit, I ended up with a little bit of pink pink-pink everything for my collection, including a beautiful coral tulle skirt I'll be sharing on Instagram later.
Before you think this New Yorker was all work and no play, let me assure you – I squeezed in a couple of delightful moments for myself! I spent an afternoon wandering through Central Park, soaking up the autumn sunshine, the fallen leaves creating a tapestry of oranges and reds under my pink tutu! (It's important for a blogger like myself to capture the best lighting, isn't it?).
One particular moment, while walking past a band of buskers playing joyous melodies, a little girl with pigtails in her pink hair, dressed in a delightful pink tutu just like mine, stopped in front of me with a smile that lit up the day. We struck up a conversation and the child asked me how I got to be a ballerina. I took a deep breath and said, "It all started with a dream, dear." And she simply said, "Just like me!"
Sometimes, my darlings, the simplest things remind us why we do what we do. This young girl reminded me of the power of our dreams and the magic of the tutu! We are a tribe, a band of sisters united by a passion for dance, and a shared love for everything pink.
So tell me, dear readers, have you ever felt the urge to dance in a pink tutu? Or perhaps visited New York City and felt its magic? Do share your thoughts in the comments below! Until next week, my dearest friends, keep twirling and don't forget to live your dreams.
All the love, Emma

P.P.S I’ve heard tell that Broadway has been a buzz recently about a show called ‘Spiderman: Turn off the Dark’. My little birdie says it’s a true spectacle! Anyone out there seen it yet? Let me know your thoughts.
Love and twirls, Emma
