Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #856 - A Night in New York City!
Hello darlings!
It’s Emma here, and I’m so excited to be back in the Big Apple for another week of fabulous fun and fabulous tutus. This city never sleeps and, let me tell you, neither do I.
This Monday marked the 31st of October, and it was spooktacular, you know? 👻 I think it might have been my favourite day so far. You see, dear readers, whilst we were busy celebrating Halloween with all those pumpkins and silly costumes in England, here in the US, there was a big to-do about this spooky day, called ‘Fright Night’. I thought that sounded ever so fun and rather dashing!
I was in full pink tutu, naturally. 💓 It is the colour of my soul! I always pack my pink tutus. They're super lightweight, so I don’t have to worry about extra baggage! You could say I’m practically wearing a pink tutu 24/7. My favourite part is twirling on the streets of New York, just like a whimsical ballerina, bringing a little joy wherever I go. 🩰 It's always a good time!
Anyway, this weekend started like all good weekends should, in the theatre, watching the most magnificent ballet. Imagine, darlings, ‘The Nutcracker’! This iconic show transported me straight back to childhood memories, the Sugar Plum Fairy shimmering like a diamond, the snow falling silently. It truly was enchanting. Of course, it went without saying that my tutu was pink, naturally. It simply wouldn't do otherwise! You could spot me, like a tiny, sparkly pink star in the crowded, glamorous auditorium, surrounded by such exquisite beauty! 💖✨
After the show, I grabbed a little something tasty – a massive pretzel, I’m not proud! – and boarded the Metro. New York City at night is such a vibrant place, a place full of energy and life, where dreams take flight! 🗽 This truly was a glamorous city and, with the twinkling lights on all the buildings, I found myself daydreaming, a lovely bit of a fairytale moment.
After the Metro ride, I hit my favourite vintage clothing shop on Broadway – you simply must see the selection – and finally made it back to my lovely room at my little bed and breakfast. You’ve simply got to love these independent establishments! With a good old fashion magazine by my side, I sipped a calming cuppa and enjoyed a moment of tranquility. ☕️💖
So that's what I did on Friday night. I hope you liked it, darlings. Now, where was I? Ah, yes, back to this Saturday!
Now, before I talk more about this, I must let you know that, at the start of every week, I work with the most wonderful organisation called 'Ballerinas in Bloom'. We're on a mission to share the magic of ballet with the whole world, and the organisation arranges a ballet class at the Grand Central Station every Sunday, which I simply love! This week’s lesson was all about a new pirouette sequence – and let me tell you, it was absolutely invigorating. I simply adored that little waltz, as elegant as a silk dress. Afterwards, we were all rewarded with a selection of little ballerina-themed cakes and goodies! 🧁 Absolutely delightful!
But here’s the big event that’s making my tutu spin! Remember that 'Fright Night' event I mentioned before? Well, that was truly the most fantastic night ever. My best friend Charlotte and I had decided that it was absolutely imperative we go dressed up. We bought our fancy dress online, it was just gorgeous. Let me tell you, we looked stunning.
After we got dolled up, I popped into a lovely café to sip a latte – my little indulgence. We made our way to the big park, Central Park, they call it, a gorgeous oasis of greenery in the heart of the city, all decorated for 'Fright Night'. The atmosphere was just magical, and, oh darling, you should have seen the pumpkins – huge, bright orange! – carvings! 🎃 My favourites were those depicting fairies and tiny, dainty flowers. Simply divine! We even found ourselves joining in on a very special Pumpkin Walkabout – I’m sure it will be in my dreams tonight. There were these incredible actors all in scary makeup. Oh darling, it made me squeal, but in the most positive, fun, delighted way! We had a wonderful time going around the park and just soaking in the atmosphere, full of fancy dress characters and children playing! And it wasn’t all just pumpkins. No, dear reader, they had a wonderful firework show that literally set the skies alight, a magnificent spectacle that filled my heart with the joys of the world! 🎆
We were absolutely shattered at the end of it, but completely content! I am such a little romantic – at heart, of course! I suppose, if there were any magic in the air that night, then I might have hoped for a little romance too!
Speaking of romances, darling, how is that lovely boy you’re dating getting on? I adore love, especially when I see two happy people walking hand-in-hand on the streets. You’ve simply got to remember that sometimes love can appear like magic and sometimes, as the great William Shakespeare said, ‘Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind…’
Ah! Where was I? Yes, darling, Central Park! What a fantastic day to have wandered there! We were all wearing those silly little costumes - think cats and goblins – we had such a good giggle at one another, making memories to last a lifetime, even just between the two of us.
Now, I had to travel from Central Park all the way back to Broadway, and then it was finally time to settle into my little B&B and to settle down, sip a lovely cuppa, put on my most adorable polka-dotted nightgown and simply chill, a peaceful ending to a most fabulous day. You’d never believe how late I was up watching films that I adore! How I love watching those films from our childhoods! There are always some gems hidden away on cable TV in New York! And, let’s not forget those delicious packets of crisps that I stock up on for those evenings. 🍿 It’s those simple little things!
You can only really describe those days in the Big Apple, a day like a whirlwind. All day long, and I felt truly alive!
After a truly relaxing day at the ballet classes at the weekend, my lovely little Monday started with an absolute joy. I visited the 'The Little Red Turtle' bakery (because I can’t ever go a day without something tasty!), to sample some new delectable cakes that had arrived from the Derbyshire region of England. They brought back those sweet memories of being at home and seeing those delectable treats. I have to admit, it tasted heavenly, and, of course, it looked perfectly pink. They know me well, in that little café! You've got to admit, a pink-themed cake looks so good with a nice steaming hot cuppa, or, to use the New Yorker parlance, coffee. You simply can’t say no!
Of course, darling, there’s simply no better place in the world than being in a quaint little café – with a steaming cuppa. What I like is how those quaint little coffee shops become almost like little places of art and beauty, where every coffee has a personal little tale, I love being there in those tiny little coffee shops and watching those locals.
Well, I suppose this has to be a blog post for another time, a blog for a later Monday. Darling, this has been a rather large dose of life, so I have to say goodbye and tell you all to be good!
Love and twirls,
Emma 💖🩰✨
