Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Diaries - #858 (Monday 14th November 2011)

Hello darlings! It's Emma, back with another New York escapade straight from the heart of the Big Apple! 🍎 This week, my darling pink tutu and I have been swirling through the streets, soaking up the atmosphere, and letting the energy of this fabulous city carry us away.

If you've been following my blog, you know my ultimate mission is to spread the joy and whimsy of the pink tutu across the globe! It's my secret weapon for injecting some magic and happiness into the everyday. And what better place to do that than in the vibrant, dynamic metropolis of New York?

This week's adventure took me to some truly wonderful places – but before I tell you all about it, I must confess… the absolute highlight of my weekend was finding this gorgeous hot pink, feather boa at a vintage shop near my little Brooklyn apartment! 🎀 The shop owner, a sassy lady named Stella, is a big fan of the tutu life! She actually even wore a beautiful, emerald green one herself, a perfect match to her lime-green eye shadow. It was such a fun encounter, and now my boa is sitting on my bedside table, all fluffy and ready for the next big event. I even have an idea for my next outfit: a sparkly black top, my black tulle skirt, a splash of hot pink from the boa… ah, the possibilities are endless!

Speaking of events, Saturday night I went to a ballet performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The piece, a modern dance exploration set to Tchaikovsky, was absolutely captivating. It had those soaring jumps, dramatic, sweeping movements, and intense emotions. It almost felt like I was flying through the air myself! Afterwards, we went to a small bar near BAM for some much-needed wine and a lively debate about the artistic choices of the choreography. 🥂 It’s amazing how ballet can spark so much discussion and thought, even among total strangers!

The following morning, my friends and I headed downtown, making our way via the bustling, wonderfully unpredictable subway (New York's Metro is truly a magical system! Everyone crammed together in their own world yet still somehow sharing a communal, buzzing experience. You never know who you're going to bump into, literally!), to Lincoln Center for an afternoon of pure, unadulterated fashion inspiration. The Fall Fashion Week show we saw was incredible, showcasing vibrant colours, exquisite textiles and captivating silhouettes. We gasped, giggled, and took copious notes, all with the shared conviction that fashion is such an extraordinary form of artistic expression, a chance to be whoever we choose, whatever our style. 👠

This leads me to another vital mission of mine - spreading the love for clothes, especially unique pieces and outfits that make a statement! Of course, I have a soft spot for vintage fashion and love nothing more than rummaging through thrift shops, hoping to unearth some hidden treasures! I mean, who wouldn't want a vintage, powder-pink polka-dotted dress or a 70s beaded blouse in their wardrobe? This week, my hunt yielded a beautiful floral maxi dress, perfect for all the festive occasions coming up. I'm planning on wearing it to a friend's Thanksgiving feast on Thursday – it's all going to be very fancy and fun. I already feel the party vibes brewing! 🍗

Oh, did I mention my week has also been filled with endless explorations of Central Park? That vibrant oasis, surrounded by steel and concrete, is such a wonderful place to get lost in nature. From picturesque ponds to vibrant fall foliage, I find a new corner of it every week, each more charming than the last. It’s my favorite escape from the urban bustle, my little slice of serenity amidst the chaos. 😌

After all the fashion, dance, and exploring, nothing feels quite as satisfying as sitting down in my favourite café with a warm cup of English Breakfast tea (it’s something I just can’t live without – Derbyshire girl through and through, even in New York) and writing to all of you, my amazing readers! It's always such a joy to share these adventures with you and to feel your positive energy radiating back to me. 💖

So until next week, stay inspired, wear your best tutu, and remember - every day is an opportunity to embrace life’s sparkle!

Love, Emma. xoxo
