Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2012-02-06 - Twirling Through the Big Apple!

Post number 870

Hello lovelies! It's Monday morning in the Big Apple, and I'm back with another exciting week of Pink Tutu adventures!

As you all know, this week marks a big occasion - Valentine's Day! And to celebrate this festival of love, I'm sporting my very favourite pink tutu. It's a soft blush colour, just like a delicate rose petal, and I think it's simply perfect for embracing the romantic spirit of the season.

Now, I've been itching to get back to the city since my last trip. I just love the energy here. There's so much life and excitement everywhere you look! Of course, the main reason I'm here is for the ballet - I've got tickets to see Swan Lake at the Lincoln Center on Wednesday. I'm so excited! It's my favourite ballet and it's going to be magical to watch it performed in such a prestigious venue. I just know it's going to be incredible!

Speaking of incredible, I’ve been toying with the idea of incorporating my love for ballet into my everyday wardrobe. Imagine walking down the streets of New York City in a chic, modern, yet utterly elegant pink tutu. I've found some gorgeous, versatile tutu-inspired skirts that I think would look perfect for a day of exploring the city. I can practically picture it now, a bold statement that captures the whimsical and playful side of New York City's spirit, and me twirling down the sidewalk, making everyone smile!

So, where was I? Oh, yes, Monday in New York! Let's talk about today. First things first, a proper British breakfast is essential. Luckily, I’m in the heart of Midtown, right across the street from a darling cafe serving up perfectly cooked English breakfasts! How utterly brilliant!

After breakfast, I was feeling ambitious. The vibrant colour and vibrancy of New York is something I always crave, and today, it seemed my eyes were demanding colour! I set my sights on a little vintage shop tucked away on Broadway. They had some seriously chic finds!

You see, I think it's all about finding those unique pieces, that little something special that makes you feel good inside and out. My eyes landed on a vintage floral printed scarf in beautiful shades of pink, blush, and ivory. It had that perfect retro vibe with a dash of elegance. I'll admit I probably wasn't meant to buy it but who can resist the vintage siren call? I knew it would be a lovely addition to my wardrobe. I picture it tied around my neck or wrapped around my hair, adding a pop of colour to a plain dress or turtleneck, perfect for both daytime and evening occasions.

But my shopping wasn't over. I couldn't leave without finding a truly extravagant hat! New York is the best place to embrace my love of millinery. It has to be extravagant! A big, fluffy pink hat. I need it, like, now! But alas, after hours of scouring the streets of Manhattan, I was forced to concede. A pink fluffy hat was just not meant to be. It was disappointing, yes, but life must go on! And who knows, maybe next week, on my next trip to the Big Apple, I’ll have more luck?

The Metro, The Subway and me!

Speaking of city adventures, I couldn't let a day go by without exploring the subway system. It’s a part of New York that I just love. It’s bustling, loud and chaotic, yet also wonderfully quirky. As usual, I chose to sit near the window, mesmerised by the fleeting cityscape rushing past me.

I ventured uptown, making my way to a new ballet studio called 'Dance with Joy'. The name alone made my heart skip a beat, don't you agree?

They offered a fun introductory ballet class and it was such a wonderful way to stretch and get moving. They even had some adorable pink tutus hanging by the mirror, for that little extra je ne sais quoi.

One thing I always love about ballet class is that feeling of total freedom and release. It's a chance to move your body in a beautiful way, to connect with the music and lose yourself in the dance.

In the afternoon, I popped into this charming bakery just a few blocks from the subway station. They were baking this gorgeous raspberry tart that looked so delicious, with beautiful pink frosting - the perfect sweet treat!

To end this beautiful Monday in New York, I found myself enjoying the warm ambiance of a tea salon with my newest vintage scarf nestled around my neck. The cafe had some truly delicious cakes. As I sipped my chamomile tea, watching the hustle and bustle of city life outside, it was hard not to smile. I'd spent the entire day immersed in all things pink, from the ballet to the vintage scarves, to the pastries and my favourite blush tutu, I felt complete.

And don’t forget about Valentine’s Day! In celebration, I'll be trying out a few new romantic looks - the perfect occasion for some elegant and sparkly pink!

I'll let you know what I pick. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I hear the sweet, magical sounds of the city calling! Until next time, lovelies. Stay twirling!
