Pink Tutu Blog NYC: New York, New York, I Love You!

#PinkTutuBlogNYC | Post #893 | Monday 16th July, 2012

Oh darling, I've simply been dying to tell you all about my whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! As always, www.pink-tutu.com will be my first stop for sharing the latest fashion delights and pirouette-inducing adventures. Iā€™m a girly girl from Derbyshire, England, you see, but New York City is truly my second home!

This trip, Iā€™m blessed to be in the heart of the city because I've been lucky enough to secure a part in a wonderful Broadway production - my first foray onto the New York stage. Itā€™s a modern retelling of Cinderella, but with a lot more glitz, a whole load more dancing, and oh, a pink tutu or two for good measure, naturally. The rehearsals have been nothing short of inspiring, working with the most incredible cast and crew. It truly is like a dream come true.

The whole weekend, the city was alive with summer fun. There were street performances everywhere, from jazz and tap dancers to singers and poets - it was just pure joy! The streets were abuzz, and the sunshine felt incredible after those grey Derbyshire skies.

Friday: The Magic of Macy's

My weekend kicked off in fabulous style at the iconic Macy's department store in Herald Square. Can I just say? Shopping in New York is a completely different level. Itā€™s the ultimate ballet dancerā€™s dreamland: sequins, sparkle, and enough tulle to outfit every ballerina on Earth! They're even building a fabulous new shop floor for all the most fabulous and exquisite fashion, which I cannot wait to see.

As I danced through the aisles, I picked up the most divine coral-pink dress, with a perfect amount of twirling power and a floaty chiffon skirt, perfect for a summer stroll in Central Park.

That evening, I caught a phenomenal Broadway show: a dazzling production of the Phantom of the Opera at the majestic Majestic Theatre. Oh darling, I could just weep. It was spectacular. It transported me right back to that wonderful, ethereal world that is both enchanting and terrifying, the very essence of theatre, pure magic.

Saturday: Tutus & Twirls in Central Park

Central Park is just breathtakingly beautiful! It's like an escape right in the middle of the concrete jungle. You can feel the history in every stone and every leaf. It was my first stop Saturday morning. My ballet skirt danced a happy jig as I explored the charming paths, took in the vibrant green and lush blooms.

That afternoon, I found myself dancing alongside a dozen others in a joyous street ballet class in Times Square! A group of locals gathered around us, watching in amusement as we practiced our grand jetĆ©s and pirouettes. It was absolutely hilarious. My tutu twirled so gloriously in the sunshine! Let me tell you, New Yorkers sure love a ballet tutu, even if they canā€™t all quite execute the perfect penchĆ©.

The perfect end to a fantastic Saturday? You guessed it - I waltzed my way to the most spectacular concert in Brooklyn.

Sunday: A Touch of Romance

Sunday was a touch quieter. The first rays of sunshine over the cityscape saw me walking through a magical market, indulging in delicious bagels, hot coffee, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. I then settled on a window seat in my favourite vintage bookstore, lost in a story until afternoon tea beckoned.

My darling, let me tell you - I had afternoon tea in one of the most magnificent venues Iā€™ve ever encountered. The walls of this hidden jewel are lined with beautiful murals, the service is immaculate, and oh, the dainty cakes were almost too exquisite to devour. It was every princess's dream tea party. It would have made even Marie Antoinette jealous!

After the most relaxing, luxurious afternoon, I rounded off the weekend in true fashion. In true Pink Tutu fashion, that is, of course. With a fabulous Broadway show and more fantastic dancing - what else could one want from a perfect NYC adventure?

I was back in my New York hotel room by 10.30 PM, with just enough time for a little ā€œBroadway-inspiredā€ self-care. Face mask, bath, and pink tutu on - what more could a ballerina desire! I'm starting to wonder how many pink tutus I have crammed in my luggage for a mere weekend getaway. The question now is how am I going to get them all home?!

Spreading the Tutu Love

You might think my tutu collection is a bit ridiculous, but let me tell you, itā€™s actually more about my personal philosophy! If you are truly a lover of life, then why not wear pink, and a tutu? Why not spread the message that life is a celebration! My darling, donā€™t just dress like you are going to a ballet - be like youā€™re going to a ballet! That means dancing through life, twirling with grace, and radiating positivity! It is about wearing joy on your sleeve and making the most of each and every day. I've been trying to do just that on this trip and you know what? It works.

So go on, put on your tutu and show the world that you can dance with confidence. Life's a stage, so make a statement!

Until next time my darlings. See you on www.pink-tutu.com next week!

P.S. I canā€™t leave you without sharing some of the fantastic fashion highlights from this incredible weekend:

  • My brand-new coral pink dress from Macy's!
  • My fabulous sequined Broadway rehearsal costume
  • My ā€œballet inspiredā€ summer-chic ballerina pumps
  • The adorable pink tulle hair scrunchie from a street market
  • And oh, can we talk about that adorable baby pink beret I snagged from the cutest little boutique in Chelsea?

Until next Monday, be a darling and enjoy the ride!
