Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 5th November 2012 - Post #909 🩰💖✨

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! This time, I'm overflowing with stories about the magic I found, not only on stage but on the bustling streets of New York.

As always, the city felt like a dream, all swirling colours, bright lights and the intoxicating buzz of possibility. I kicked things off with a fabulous visit to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on Friday. Let me tell you, it was an absolute joy to watch "The Nutcracker" – the music, the sets, the stunning choreography… oh, the magic! Seeing the wonder on the faces of children and adults alike always fills my heart with a sense of sheer delight.

Afterward, a quick pit stop for a hot chocolate at the nearby Café Luxembourg before venturing out into the streets for some post-ballet shopping therapy! The Upper West Side is always such a treasure trove for me - from chic boutiques with vintage treasures to those irresistible shops bursting with flamboyant frocks.

Naturally, I had to find a tutu or two for my adventures! You know I love a pink tulle twirl in the city. Luckily, I stumbled upon a store overflowing with fluffy, dreamy pink tulle - I mean, how could I possibly resist? This, my dear readers, is exactly why I can never visit New York without visiting its stores. You just never know what treasures await!

On Saturday, my feet danced on the shiny, bright floors of the Times Square subway station - my absolute favourite form of transportation! And what's better than a Metro ride in New York? Why, a Metro ride in New York whilst wearing a fluffy, pink tutu, of course!

I'll confess, a couple of surprised glances my way and a few giggles were exchanged, but that's part of the magic, isn't it? Sharing my joy of tutus and ballet with the city, even if it’s just through a bright smile.

But, wait! There was a surprise around every corner. The highlight of Saturday was the wonderful street performance I discovered - the energy was electric. A troupe of tap dancers with dazzling skills and bright smiles - they had me enthralled with every single beat of their shoes against the cobbled streets. It’s those unexpected encounters that truly bring this city to life.

And talking about encounters, let me tell you about my lunch on Sunday. In between visiting the beautiful Metropolitan Museum of Art (so many incredible works of art! And let’s not forget the museum gift shop with all its lovely pink, tutu-themed knick-knacks!), I discovered a delightful bistro called "Pink Teacup". Not just because of the gorgeous colour scheme, but because the menu was simply divine. Deliciously fluffy scones, a pot of strong English tea, and a dollop of homemade jam – the perfect fuel for a day of sightseeing and people watching.

Sunday afternoon, I went for a wander around the iconic Central Park, a must-do when in New York, and a haven of peace in the middle of this bustling metropolis. Even on a crisp autumn day, the vibrant colours of the fallen leaves were absolutely breathtaking. What a perfect backdrop for some ballet-inspired twirls! The park felt almost magical - like it was straight out of a storybook!

For a city with so much excitement and a frenetic pace, I always find something special about how seamlessly the greenery of Central Park contrasts the concrete jungle that surrounds it.

The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly the “Swan Lake” performance at the David H. Koch Theater. The artistry, the grace, and the captivating emotions poured out of every movement. As always, a ballerina can never resist watching others express themselves through the magic of dance. This time, though, it felt truly special, especially given the beautiful setting.

Later, as I boarded the red eye back to Derbyshire, England, a contented sigh escaped my lips. I’d made new memories, embraced the hustle and bustle, and I’m filled with the vibrant energy of the city - just like a pink tutu bursting with glitter.

For now, until our next adventures in the Big Apple, darlings, let's remember to keep on twirling and shining, no matter where we are! Don't forget to share your ballet adventures with me - I'd love to hear all about your twirls!

Stay twirly and see you all next week,

Emma 💕🩰
