#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2013-07-22: A Dance Through The Big Apple (Post #946)

Good morning, my darling pink tutu-loving readers! It's Monday, the day I'm back in the Pink Tutu Blog saddle and ready to share another fabulous adventure. This week I'm whisking you straight to the vibrant streets of New York City! Where better to kick off a new week than the Big Apple, a metropolis brimming with energy and style, and of course, enough tutus (hopefully pink ones!) to outfit the entire city.

You'll all remember how I lived for last week's dreamy weekend exploring the picturesque, historic lanes and quaint corners of [Insert Name of UK location you want to mention]...

Let’s rewind back to Friday, because honestly, this New York escapade began there, in Derbyshire. As always, the Derbyshire countryside was stunning - the rolling hills bathed in a glorious sunshine, that almost magical light that paints a canvas of warmth across the landscape. But that feeling was quickly replaced with the pulsating rhythm of travel! As the train sped away, the soothing countryside morphed into the familiar landscape of England’s industrial belt. Then, with the sheer, exhilarating rush of leaving England for another adventure, I was back on a plane soaring towards New York. I never get tired of that sense of wonder and the excitement that fills me, always a little nervous and slightly disoriented at the same time. I do love feeling that delicious mixture of trepidation and joy. I'm always thrilled to be heading towards another unknown adventure!

I have a special soft spot for New York City, a place I love almost as much as I love my tutus! Every visit feels like a thrilling reunion. It's always a delightful symphony of sights, sounds and the tantalising scents of coffee shops, bakeries, and street vendors, the air laced with the distinct New York vibe – a concoction of urban bustle, cultural richness and of course, that exhilarating sense of limitless opportunity.

The city's heartbeat pulsed with the frenetic energy of a bustling, diverse, multi-faceted mass of people - an exhilarating contrast to the calm stillness of the English countryside! There’s always a distinct hum of energy flowing through its veins; from the bustling, vibrant markets to the spectacular, swirling energy of Times Square and, of course, the graceful movements of ballets at Lincoln Center.

I don't need to tell you that one of the absolute highlights of any trip to New York is getting a glimpse of its ballet scene! The moment I touched down at JFK, my imagination began to swirl with visions of the exquisite artistry of dancers on the city's world-renowned stages! This trip, however, was no ordinary visit. I had a major goal. * I was in New York City to see The New York City Ballet’s “Romeo & Juliet"!* Yes, you read that right! One of the world's most captivating ballet classics! You could say I was quite excited!

Now, I know some of you may be thinking “Emma, didn’t you already see Romeo & Juliet when you visited New York City back in [Month/Year]?" and you are right! I did! But let’s just say "once" was definitely not enough! This performance is a pure masterpiece in dance! Every move is like poetry set in motion.

The New York City Ballet is an incredible dance troupe, a symphony of precision, athleticism, and grace executed to absolute perfection. Every single performance is just breathtaking!

After landing, I practically leapt off the plane and into the first available New York subway. For a Derbyshire girl at heart, there is something exhilarating and endearing about the energy, clutter, and unique personality of New York City’s underground railway system, the home of the MTA, always so much fun! And, oh, the sheer amount of people, all crammed into tiny little carriages – what a beautiful spectacle it is! I almost feel as though I could take a picture of the packed carriages and call it an artwork! It is quite extraordinary!

This time I was staying in [Insert Address]. You just can’t beat it - I felt I had arrived right at the pulse of the city. And the beauty of this hotel – the decor! Let me tell you, darling, it was absolutely dreamy. I could just picture a whole series of ballet classes being held right there in the hotel’s most glamorous room! Just imagine it for a moment…

A few hours later I was wandering through the streets of Manhattan, soaking in all the city’s thrilling energy. I spotted a fabulous Pink tutu shop which of course, I had to visit! It is hard not to indulge when you have so many beautiful pink tutus around! In the end I resisted the temptation to buy anything - you see, my suitcase is almost always packed to bursting, but a girl’s got to have some self-control!

I decided I deserved a treat after all that travel and resisted the urge to go straight to a local cafe (they’re just irresistible in NYC) and instead I sought out a stylish restaurant called “Le Marais" and oh, was it a dream! Let me tell you, this place was absolutely exquisite! Imagine this - warm lights bathing the tables, beautiful lighting that made it seem so incredibly inviting! The air was filled with the most beautiful melodies as live music serenaded the diners! I had the most delicious (pink of course!) raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake. Heaven!

And my, my, I'm just so excited, I simply have to tell you all about the ballet show!

Oh, Romeo & Juliet. You were simply stunning! And my love, what an experience it was! As I sat watching, enraptured by the exquisite choreography, my imagination soared! It felt as though I was actually watching the star-crossed lovers’ heartbreaking story unfold right before my eyes!

I had forgotten just how much the dance could make me feel, how the movements could convey the story with so much passion. My heart sunk and soared right alongside Romeo and Juliet, feeling their despair and their love in equal measure.

After the show, I went out for a walk in the evening air, soaking in the spectacle that is New York. Even the city at its most chilled was still so alive – the streetlamps casting a warm glow on the hustle and bustle.

I'd had a wonderful day, filled with everything I love most – dancing, cityscapes and the deliciously exciting buzz of new adventures!

Tomorrow’s a busy day, I have the greatest shopping spree all planned out – but don’t you worry – I’ll be sharing all my favourite finds next week!

Until next Monday – be sure to stay fabulous!

Love and twirls,

Emma xx
