Pink Tutu Blog: NYC – Monday, June 30th, 2014 (Post #995)

Hello darlings!

It’s me, your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina blogger, Emma, writing to you live from the Big Apple! 🍎 It's another gorgeous Monday morning here in NYC and I'm positively buzzing with excitement after another amazing weekend exploring this fantastic city.

This week, I'm aiming to get everyone on the subway wearing a pink tutu! 😜 Don't worry, I'll be sure to keep it classy (of course!) Just imagine the scene... Think pastel pink tutus twirling down the platforms, bouncing on the trains, and maybe even getting a little tap dance in the carriage – it'd be magical, right?

And if that's not enough to get you in the mood, well, get this – I've managed to snag tickets to the American Ballet Theatre's showing of Giselle this evening! The thrill of seeing these incredible dancers in action is enough to send shivers down my spine (especially when it's Giselle! It's one of my all-time favourite ballets).

But let's rewind a bit, shall we? This weekend was a whirlwind of adventures, each one bursting with enough sparkle to dazzle even the most jaded New Yorker!

A Saturday Shopping Spree

My Saturday kicked off with a spot of retail therapy. You can never have too much sparkle in your life, and New York's Fifth Avenue certainly didn't disappoint! From the iconic Tiffany & Co. to the shimmering couture boutiques, I was positively entranced by the displays. Honestly, if you want to see some serious glamour, this is the place to be!

Even better, I found this adorable little vintage boutique, hidden away on a quiet side street, brimming with gorgeous outfits. Imagine a blush-pink cocktail dress with an embroidered flower, a pair of candy-coloured stilettos with a feather boa attached, or a shimmering sequin top with a playful polka dot skirt – all perfect for a night at the ballet, of course! It felt like I'd stepped into a vintage movie and I managed to snag a fabulous silk scarf and a beautiful pastel pink beret. I am not usually one for hats, but this one, with it’s playful feather trim, called out to me, and I’m planning on rocking it tonight for my evening at the theatre.

A Subway Symphony

After a delicious brunch of pancakes (with extra syrup, because, well, why not?) I hopped on the subway. I had been wanting to take a ride on the 7 train, and I have to say, the whole experience felt like stepping into a song and dance routine! Imagine the colourful posters and advertisements, the ever-changing melodies of the station announcements, the hurried but determined steps of the commuters, all weaving in and out of each other - It truly is a choreographed masterpiece!

Of course, no New York subway journey is complete without a street performer. This time I saw a particularly talented musician. His trumpet had the whole station swaying. It wasn't long before I was tapping my feet along with the music, and I'm pretty sure my inner ballerina was even starting to do some tiny plies under the fluorescent lights of the subway station. It’s such a melting pot of cultural experience, it makes the daily commute almost feel like a theatrical performance!

Sunday Fun at Central Park

The morning sunshine tempted me out into Central Park, and boy, oh boy, was I glad I went! It felt like a fairy tale land - all rolling green lawns, lush floral beds, and majestic trees with their boughs reaching up to the sky. And you can’t talk about Central Park without mentioning its magnificent fountain, reflecting the sunshine with every passing cloud, creating a sparkling show of dazzling light.

I wandered the walkways, snapping photos, listening to the laughter of children playing, and simply soaking in the energy of the park. There was even a family dressed in their finest pink tulle tutus and matching pastel pink berets – clearly inspired by this little pink tutu-loving blogger, ha!

As evening descended and the golden hour cast its magic spell over the park, the trees turned into golden silhouettes, the city lights flickered in the distance, and everything just seemed to shimmer in a haze of dreamy beauty. It's not surprising they call this the heart of the city – the energy, the beauty, and the stories swirling through its air are enough to capture your heart.

An Evening of Dance

Tonight is all about Giselle, one of the great masterpieces of classical ballet. I'm practically vibrating with anticipation! I already know the story, I know the music, and I even have a pretty good idea of what the costumes will look like. It’s the kind of ballet that just takes you on a wild journey, full of romance, passion, and sorrow – an emotional rollercoaster of pure theatrical brilliance.

I can't wait to share my thoughts with you all on Tuesday morning, when I'll be writing another blog post all about the performance.

But before I sign off for the day, I have to ask – has anybody out there already started wearing their pink tutus on the subway? πŸ˜‰ Or maybe even a little ballerina-inspired outfit to the ballet? Do share your experiences in the comments section, I’d love to hear about it all!

Have a fabulous week and remember, everyone looks amazing in a pink tutu! πŸ˜‰

Until next Monday,

Emma xxx
