#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2014-08-11: A Pink Tutu in the Big Apple! 🩰🍎
Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, back with another blog post from the dazzling metropolis that is New York City. As this is post number 1001 for my #PinkTutuBlogNYC journey, I feel it's time to reflect on how far we've come. A year ago, I was a Derbyshire girl with big dreams and even bigger love for pink tutus. Today, I'm living my dream in the city that never sleeps!
Speaking of dreams, I’ve been lucky enough to dance my way across the pond with a few performance gigs back in England and have managed to fund my adventures by spreading a little bit of pink tutu magic! Every time I put on a pink tutu and step onto a stage, the excitement bubbles up inside me. I simply can't imagine a life without this. It's truly the best way to live, even if it's not always easy!
But don’t worry, lovelies, this isn't a post about the challenges (although there have been plenty!), this is all about my latest New York City escapade, complete with all the glitter, glamour, and (you guessed it!) pink tutus that your hearts could desire!
A Dance in the City That Never Sleeps 🏙️Today, the city felt electric. New York is a living, breathing, dancing being and today it was buzzing with excitement, just like my heart. You see, I had a most amazing day in the theatre - a performance of Swan Lake, that classic, haunting tale. Watching those dancers move so effortlessly across the stage, with their stories woven into every graceful turn and every powerful leap, it reminded me why I fell in love with ballet in the first place.
Afterward, I couldn't resist a bit of "street ballet" - what’s a visit to New York without exploring the subway? It's the heart of the city, filled with unique characters and, naturally, endless fashion inspiration. It's a magical world where everyday commuters become performers in their own ballet. I couldn't help but shimmy along with a group of high-stepping young women heading towards their jobs in towering heels and their fabulous bright outfits, even if they did look at me as if I’d just jumped off the set of a Broadway show. Who cares, right?! A bit of tutu magic can brighten anyone's day, and that's the beauty of a pink tutu - it invites people to laugh, to twirl, to embrace their inner performer, and to feel a bit more joy!
A Fashionable Fling with the Big Apple's Best 🍎New York is also a shopper's paradise, especially for a fashion-obsessed ballerina like me. After my performance at a beautiful theatre venue in Manhattan last week (can’t disclose more until the PR campaign kicks off), I spent an entire afternoon exploring the charming vintage shops lining 7th Avenue and those lovely quaint stores on Broadway. Let me tell you, dear readers, New York knows how to celebrate fashion!
Of course, I couldn’t leave without a few new treasures for my own wardrobe!
My eyes were captivated by an incredible vintage pink lace jacket. Now, every girl needs a good lace jacket in her life! It can dress up any outfit, making it both chic and timeless. Think classic Hepburn meets contemporary ballerina and you’ve got the look! This gem, my lovelies, is so soft and elegant, with the most gorgeous pink lace embroidery! It's definitely going to be the statement piece in my next show, and maybe even on my date next Friday with the very talented yet elusive insert random male friend name. Fingers crossed he will enjoy a performance with a splash of pink!
After my shopping spree, I had a simply delightful lunch with my friend insert friend name at one of New York’s many charming and cosy cafes. With steaming cups of Earl Grey tea and a slice of insert delicious cake type, we talked about the latest dance trends, discussed our fashion favourites and laughed about some silly situations from the weekend.
And, of course, what's a trip to New York without a good ol’ fashion stroll through Central Park? A little stroll, a bit of contemplation under the shade of a large oak tree, the chance to relax, unwind, and reconnect with my inner ballerina.
I might be from a tiny little town in England, but there's a place for every girl with a big dream in the city that never sleeps!
Pink Tutu Magic: Making the World a Little More Sparkly 💫I love travelling the world, soaking up all the unique energy each place has to offer, but I also love how easy it is to get around in New York City via its vast, accessible subway system. You just pop on your comfy, colourful outfit and travel around without a worry in the world! Today, I spotted the most stylish couple. He was dapper in his perfectly tailored suit, and she, of course, had her own pink tutu. Now, she didn't wear it in the usual ballerina fashion, but rather as an accessory around her waist, accentuating her svelte silhouette with a whimsical twist! It was genius, really, showing everyone how versatile a pink tutu can be. She turned heads and drew smiles from everyone around her! It goes to show that there are no rules when it comes to pink tutus, you just need a bit of imagination and a lot of courage to embrace your inner ballerina.
Speaking of pink tutu magic, have you ever heard the story about the pink tutu and the grumpy old man?
One sunny morning, I found myself strolling through Central Park with my faithful tutu friend. I spotted a man sitting on a bench, looking terribly grumpy. I couldn't help but smile, twirling gently on the spot as I approached him. Now, he wasn't exactly known for his appreciation of the arts (in fact, his usual daily routine involved muttering complaints about anything that even remotely resembled dancing!).
“Good morning! Such a beautiful day, isn't it?” I said brightly, hoping my pink tutu could melt the grumpy edges off him. His face remained a grimace, his eyes narrowed. But just as I started to think he wouldn't be swayed, I saw a small flicker in his eyes, something like amusement!
"Pink tutu..." he muttered, and then he chuckled! "What on earth..." Then, the most unexpected thing happened – the man actually reached out and gently tapped the delicate tulle of my tutu, "Not a bad piece of craftsmanship...I suppose you’d be good at ballet," he said, his face softening with the memory. " My mother, may she rest in peace, loved ballet. She took me to many performances. " We chatted for a few moments about his favourite ballets, how much he misses his wife. It was the strangest but also most rewarding experience of the day. A little bit of pink tutu magic, a smile and a touch of warmth had brought a tear to the eyes of a grumpy old man.
So you see, a pink tutu doesn’t just make you look pretty – it allows you to share your joy and sprinkle a bit of sparkle on the world. My dear readers, embrace the unexpected, because even the grumpiest hearts can find a little bit of light when a pink tutu twirls by.
Now, I am going to grab my pink tutu, my phone and find the best bakery in town (maybe it’s the one in front of me).
Until next Monday!
Emma xx
