#PinkTutuBlogNYC: Monday 2014-10-20: A Tutu-tiful Time in The City That Never Sleeps!
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, bringing you another installment of #PinkTutuBlogNYC! This week, we're dancing into a whirlwind of fabulousness here in New York City, and let me tell you, it's been a week full of tutu-tiful surprises!
This is blog post number 1011, and I'm thrilled to be sharing another week of adventures with you, all from the bustling heart of New York City. You can catch me every Monday at www.pink-tutu.com.
So, without further ado, let's dive right in!
From Derbyshire to the Big Apple!Last week, I left the quaint countryside of Derbyshire behind, leaving a trail of sparkly dust and pink feather boas in my wake. My journey across the pond was fueled by a delightful mix of anticipation and a touch of jet lag (which, honestly, never gets any easier!). But upon stepping off the plane and feeling the electric energy of New York City, all thoughts of fatigue vanished!
The Magic of the MetroOf course, the first order of business was finding my way to my lovely little flat in Greenwich Village. And you know how much I love the magic of the metro, a veritable ballet of humanity in motion! The rumbling, the rhythm of the trains, and the ever-changing kaleidoscope of faces - itās all so inspiring!
This time, however, my Metro journey was a little more theatrical than usual. My darling Tutu Travel Bag (yes, I'm still rocking that glorious, sequined monstrosity) was bursting at the seams with costumes for the shows I was booked to perform in this week. Now, navigating a packed subway with a towering, sequin-covered travel bag can be tricky, even for a tutu-clad pro, so I certainly had some close calls with a few grumpy businessmen! But I wouldn't trade those hilarious moments for the world!
A Feast for the Eyes and Soul!Speaking of shows, I spent the majority of this week performing at the wonderful The Actors Fund Gala on Tuesday! The gala was a glittering event celebrating the amazing work The Actors Fund does to support artists in times of need. It was a joy to be a part of such a heartfelt evening!
And on Thursday, I graced the stage of The Metropolitan Opera, which, my dears, was a real dream come true! Performing at one of the world's most renowned opera houses was simply breathtaking. The sheer scale and grandeur of the venue took my breath away. It was an absolute honour to share the stage with such incredible talent.
Now, you might think I spend all my time on stage! Well, itās true, the performances are my passion, and they allow me to finance my dream lifestyle in New York. But, Iāve been embracing everything New York has to offer! And believe me, darling, the city offers plenty. Iām lucky enough to make some serious income through the performing arts, which gives me plenty of freedom to indulge in some serious shopping sprees, and I do it with a gusto!
The Pink Tutu ChroniclesWhere to begin? Macy's, with its glorious department stores filled with enough clothes to outfit a whole ballet company, and then thereās Bergdorf Goodman, with its stunning selection of high-end designers. My pink tutu-loving heart could hardly handle it! The best part, darling, is that even after spending a fortune on fabulous new dresses, I managed to squeeze in a few more vintage tutu gems at a fabulous antique shop nestled in a quiet corner of Chelsea.
I discovered an adorable little pink tutu, its sequins gleaming like tiny stars under the dim shop lights, and I simply couldnāt resist! Imagine my excitement when I realized it even had a tiny, perfectly preserved hand-sewn note attached to it: "To my precious darling, you'll shine brighter than any star in this." It's now on permanent display in my dressing room, a little reminder that the true magic of ballet comes from passion and dreams!
Dancing with the StarsSpeaking of passion and dreams, I met the most incredible ballet teacher on Friday at the legendary Steps on Broadway. She shared a story of her career in the early days of dance, told of a time when she wore a similar pink tutu during a New York City performance! Now, Iāve got to share with you this fun fact about Step on Broadway - this is where my favourite dancer from Broadway, Tiler Peck, received some of her earliest training! We might have seen her most recently in the wonderful revival of āOn The Townā, with my beloved, a huge hit!
That's right, Tiler and I were both dancing to that iconic New York tune on Friday. How exciting is that?! She performed "On the Town," and I spent my afternoon soaking up all the knowledge and inspiration the Steps teacher could offer! The studio felt alive with the passion of dancers, it's easy to see how the iconic steps in my beloved Broadway have been developed from the foundation built here!
Tutu Time in Times Square! As much as I love the excitement of Broadway, there's a special place in my heart for Times Square. I admit, the bright lights and chaotic energy might be a little overwhelming, but somehow, it feels exhilaratingly alive, like a giant, dazzling stage!
So, on Saturday, I donned my pink tutu and went for a long walk, just letting the sights and sounds of the city wash over me. As the crowds passed me by, their energy mingled with the glow of the neon signs and flashing advertisements. I felt a thrilling mix of awe and excitement, the feeling of being right at the heart of the worldās biggest stage! Of course, no trip to Times Square is complete without snapping a few pictures to post to Instagram and Twitter. So I posted my #PinkTutuTimesSquare selfies and shared the moment with all of you. I swear, sometimes it feels as if every square inch of this magical city is simply buzzing with inspiration!
A Tutu-tiful ConclusionBut just as my adventure was reaching its peak, the reality of time hit me like a strong dƩgagƩ. It's always bittersweet saying goodbye to New York. The city is truly magic, and I always leave feeling completely inspired and energized!
This week in NYC has been truly breathtaking - from glamorous performances to discovering little hidden gems. It has made me realize, more than ever, how fortunate I am to live out my passion in this vibrant city, in my favourite pink tutu! But now it's back to reality, a trip back to the United Kingdom, but no worries, dear friends! Iāll be sharing more of my adventures, and more, I hope, with you next Monday!
Until next time, donāt forget, keep spreading your tutu magic wherever you go!
Love, Emma x
