Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post 1052: A Tutu-ful Whirlwind Through the Big Apple

Hello, darling readers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog NYC. It's Monday, August 3rd, 2015, and I'm practically bursting at the seams with excitement. I've just spent the most amazing weekend in the Big Apple and I've got stories to tell and tutus to show you!

This trip was all thanks to a rather fabulous gig I landed – dancing with a troupe in a "Broadway on the Streets" event. Honestly, performing under the bright lights of Times Square in my pinkest, most twirly tutu, was simply divine. It's moments like that that make the hours of rehearsals and late-night train journeys feel totally worth it!

I was blessed with perfect weather for my whirlwind visit, too. Sunshine beaming, crisp air, and enough energy to rival a caffeine addict on a sugar rush. New York really does buzz! I embraced every moment with the enthusiasm of a child discovering a treasure trove of candy.

First stop, of course, had to be a proper NYC brunch experience. Picture this: Eggs Benedict smothered in hollandaise, fluffy pancakes piled high with whipped cream and fruit, and a pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice to share. I treated myself to a rather delightful latte, complete with a picture of a ballet slipper drawn in the froth – because why not?!

A Shopaholic’s Paradise:

After a much-needed coffee boost, I dived headfirst into the glorious world of Manhattan retail therapy. Now, let’s be honest, the shops in NYC are practically begging to be explored. So, I donned my most fabulous outfit (you can’t have a tutu-ful experience in a basic outfit, can you?!), grabbed my shopping bags, and headed to the Upper East Side.

The sidewalks were teeming with well-dressed shoppers and there were cute cafes and restaurants nestled between designer stores. Oh, the excitement! There was an abundance of vintage boutiques and bargain hunters galore, each with their own unique style and appeal. But the ultimate shopping experience? That’s definitely going to have to be the Saks Fifth Avenue. It's the stuff dreams are made of.

I mean, could a girl ask for a better shopping spree? The fashion was spectacular, and I even found a few things for myself - a chic pink silk scarf and some statement earrings. Of course, it’s all about balance, right? So I also picked up a beautiful floral headband and some bright pink bobby pins to jazz up my favourite tutu (let's call her 'Pink Lemonade'!).

Stepping Into the World of Ballet:

Next up? Ballet, naturally! As you know, it's more than just a passion – it's a way of life. And New York City? Well, it’s simply a paradise for dancers. I managed to snag tickets for the opening night of a breathtaking contemporary ballet performance at the Joyce Theater. Oh, the beauty and grace!

And the dancers were phenomenal! There were incredible jumps, graceful pirouettes, and expressive movements that brought the story to life. The costumes were also divine! Glittering fabrics, bold colours, and a touch of whimsical whimsy that made my ballerina heart sing!

Of course, no trip to New York City would be complete without visiting Lincoln Center! A haven for performing arts lovers, it’s filled with grand theatres and a truly awe-inspiring atmosphere. It's impossible to step into Lincoln Center and not feel inspired. I couldn’t help but daydream about one day performing on its stages – perhaps in a dazzling pink tutu, of course.

Discovering Hidden Gems and a Little Romance:

Now, while shopping and ballet are a girl’s best friend in New York, there’s so much more to discover. I spent an afternoon wandering through Central Park. There was so much life going on: joggers, picnic baskets, musicians, artists sketching portraits – it felt magical. The trees offered some respite from the bustling city streets and I felt myself calming down as I soaked in the peaceful scenery.

There’s something magical about getting lost in the heart of a big city and encountering hidden gems along the way. I stumbled across this adorable cafe on 5th Avenue called 'Pinkalicious' (coincidence? I think not!). The decor was, of course, everything pink, and they had the most delicious rose latte I've ever had.

It's these unexpected encounters that make travelling so exhilarating, don’t you think? Like discovering a new street, meeting friendly locals, or spotting a breathtaking skyline – all the little details add up to an unforgettable experience.

My favourite moment, though, was probably stumbling upon a little jazz club hidden away in a small alley off Bleecker Street. I sat at the bar, listened to some soul-stirring jazz music, and sipped on a delicious Manhattan cocktail – it was pure bliss. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy, filled with happy chatter and spontaneous laughter, and there was a truly romantic feel to the place. It felt like something straight out of a movie!

The City Never Sleeps - Until I Do:

After a weekend filled with tutus, Broadway dreams, shopping sprees, and countless delicious pastries, it was time to say goodbye to the city that never sleeps. I caught the last train to Pennsylvania Station and waved farewell to the twinkling city lights as we sped away. The journey back home felt shorter than I expected. I was completely lost in a dreamy haze, reliving all my favourite moments, and planning my next New York City adventure.

I guess I can safely say that New York City has stolen a piece of my heart. I love the city's energy, the endless opportunities, and its spirit that somehow manages to be both vibrant and intimate. Of course, no trip to NYC is ever complete without experiencing the joys of travelling on the subway. The iconic yellow trains take you on a journey through a tapestry of culture, sights, and smells that will stay with you long after you leave.

The ride back felt more than just a journey; it was a reflective experience. It gave me a chance to appreciate the wonders of travelling and the adventures I've experienced thanks to my passion for ballet and my commitment to pink tutus! I can't wait to share my experiences with you, my dear readers, and inspire you all to embrace your inner ballerina and explore the world.

Until next Monday, stay pink and fabulous, darlings!

Yours truly,

Emma xoxo
